There are some really nice photos of Neil and his guitars in that gallery. A great one of him playing a flying V and the photo to the left of that one shows what looks to be a strat/tele type thing (I've seen Neil play a black tele before, but that guitar just doesn't seem to be all tele in the body). I'm sure one of the people on this site could identify that guitar - I'd love to know what it is. Thanks for the link Thrasher - as always, keep up the great work!
I believe it's a Hagstrom II.
I'm wondering why this tour is being skippped over when talking about the rust trilogy. Although it has some extra (crazy) props and characters, the lab coats, giant amps and mic are there, and Neil's guitar playing is consistenly absolutely insane. Is it the drum triggers and synth bass?
'skipped over' ? Probably because there was no 'good, great' record to be promoted - Neil was lost on this tour. It was a mess.
Hagstrom indeed: http://www.sugarmtn.org/instruments.php?instr=16
I've read the tour had some major problems (though moreso for the eurotour that followed) and I can't dispute that as I wasn't there. I do know that the Rusted Out Garage HBO special video KILLS, and Neil is playing guitar like a maniac. Hell, my original point wasn't even that it was as good as the other three being discussed, it's just an obvious continuation of the rust theme being celebrated by the Alchemy tour, and unlike Weld and the original Rust tour, is not mentioned
maybe it was because they were my first CH shows but the two shows i saw at great woods in 86 were awesome. that said the two shows i saw last fall were better!!!
