Interested in a vinyl copy of "Time Fades Away" by Neil Young?
Well here's your chance thanks to the generosity of a TW reader. We probably don't need to go into all the reasons why this album is considered to be the "Missing Link" in the Ditch Trilogy. (But if you're interested, you can find out why "Time Fades Away", "On The Beach" and "Tonight's The Night" are considered by many fans to be the Rosetta Stone to understanding Neil Young's entire body of work.)

One last thought here. Last time we pulled our vinyl copy of TFA out, we absolutely marveled at the large lyrics poster. How nice to be able to read the lyrics without a magnifying glass. To read the lyrics in Neil's handwriting.

vinyl is alive and well. i probably dropped 5k on vinyl last year, and a lot of that was new. no need for nostalgia.
I suspect this has been mentioned before but....
I was watching "Almost Famous" for the first time last weekend and there is a scene...it caught me short. It's the view from the stage of a packed auditorium and on the edge of the stage is a rose - right out of the cover of TFA. My wife didn't understand my sudden excitement.
Hey Old Black - I noticed that scene too. It was a great send up to this most enigmatic of albums. I must say I got really excited when I saw that scene as well. I was like, "Time Fades Away, man!!!!!!!" and nobody I was with knew what I was talking about. :(
I liked 'Almost Famous' when it came out, but it's not holding up as the years pass in my opinion. Lots of Cameron Crowe films are like that to me - they're great when they are released but when I re-watch them years later they seem cheesy.
Singles and Vanilla Sky come to mind...
Even the PJ20 movie seems like it was done by a film student who is narrating for 3rd graders...

My copy came with 2 sets of lyric sheets! Bought mine way back in the late 70's and it still sounds great!

Okay, it's only a warning. But I am pretty sure it's the second time in only 10 days that you mention magnifying glasses. "How nice to be able to read the lyrics without a magnifying glass". Just checked out the cool Time Fades Away giveaway on your site. We recently got this note from Dave Z:
Just wanted to mention that when I got my copy of the album back in '73, in addition to the large folded up handwritten lyrics and band credits, included was a large poster of Neil, in profile, close-up at the microphone, with beyond-shoulder-length hair obscuring most of his face, holding a rose -- hence the connection with the Joel Bernstein shot of the rose on the Philly Spectrum stage on the TFA cover. Still one of my favorite albums.

The first pressing did not include the word "stereo" on the labels, later pressings did.
This recording was mastered 16-track direct to disc by computer - Aug. 22 & 23, 1973

I don't have a copy of TFA that comes with a large poster of Neil. Never have seen it. I do have a copy with a pictured inner sleeve. One side has Neil with flying V and band. the other side just Neil with Gretch and song/ recording information. Also have the first US pressing and there's only the lyric sheet.

I did get lucky on my trip today, ran into a copy of the Horse's Crazy Moon album on vinyl. I had never heard it before, but She's Hot is a hoot! Good stuff.
I thought most of the pressing of TFA were in mono, and the only ones in true stereo had "STEREO" on the label (I think I read that in an ebay listing a while back). Anyway, I known when I got my copy with "STEREO" on the label that it sounded much different than my other copy and in stereo. My other copy w/o the "STEREO" on the label sounds mono (although I should probably give it another listen).
Perhaps my ears were playing tricks on me.
Does anyone have any further information?
Neither copy I have has "stereo" on the label, but both are stereo recordings.
One copy is a Canadian pressing, with matrix numbers:

The only MONO version of this album was released as a promotion copy and came with a white Reprise Records label on the record.

I also bought this LP when it came out. Had the lyric poster in it. I had to talk the record store out of the one of Neil with the carnation(not rose)that they had hanging on their wall. Also I believe the carnation is taped to the mic stand not being held by Neil. Also I have 1 other poster not menchened. Green with yellow writing " new Neil young time fades away now in stock" then has 2 circles where to write prices for LP and tape. It's it's 24x24 folded into a 12 inch square so it could be dropped into a box of records. Also the smaller one 23 x17.5. Neil with the gretch from the German inter sleeve. But this was printed in USA
