Neil Young & Crazy Horse: "Tonight's The Night" - YouTube

After the little history lesson on Crazy Horse earlier that seemed to rub some the wrong way, here's some good, ol' regular Crazy Horse.

From the 1991 Weld tour, Neil Young & Crazy Horse's "Tonight's The Night".

More on "Tales of the 3rd Best Garage Band in the World": Neil Young and Crazy Horse.

If you like Young check out Joshua and the Ghost at The Rugged Gent. Two albums you can listen to for free there.

Thoughts while awaiting the return of Heisenberg:

Did you see where they pulled the plug in the UK last night during an encore with Springsteen and McCartney? They had just done I Saw Her Standing There and had gone past curfew! Reminded me of the Horde show where Neil and the Horse went about 15 minutes over the 11 pm cutoff time. There's a picture of the band coming off afterwards...it was a Bridge School item (autographed) some time ago.

There's a nice (but short) interview with Neil in the latest Men's Journal. He says that sometimes it's the totally wrong time to play with Crazy Horse and other times it's the only thing he should be doing. Check it out! In the same issue there's a short piece on John Mayer and his move to Montana (seems like I've read a half dozen versions of this story recently). He goes out of his way to say this isn't just a Neil Young Broken Arrow Ranch thing that he's doing...gosh darn, no one would ever think that!? Actually that's exactly what I thought and why it seems like the exact thing he should be doing to get rid of all that past baggage. Life goes on within you and without you....

I've been listening to Banga a lot recently and it's one of Patti's best albums (and my choice so far for album of the year). Wonder what songs she'll be doing on the tour with Neil and the Horse? And will Neil come out and play? If so, then my choice is when they play Banga, especially if Tom Verlaine comes along for the tour. Imagine that, Neil and Tom and Lenny together on guitar at the same time...getting goosebumps just thinking about it!

Three hours to go!

Oh Yes Mr. Henry!! Banga is a work of art. Did you get the cd that was packaged with the lyrics in book form?? I love it. The lyrics can be read as the finest poetry, even without the music...

I will be seeing Neil Young & Crazy Horse in Red Rocks and Tulsa. I have to say that I am terribly bummed that I cannot make it to one of the shows with Patti opening for them.

Good thoughts Mr H!

Yeah, what's with Bruce & Paul getting mics cut and no encore?? Hello London calling?!

Must've been pre-Olympic jitters. can't have folks out past curfew now.

Yes, the Patti opener should prove to be fascinating. Let's hope all the Horse fans pay their respect. The treatment of Bert Jansch wasn't Neil fans finest hour sometimes.

Enjoy Heisenberg.

@Sandy - Enjoy Red Rocks and Tulsa! The other essential Neil show out west will be Albuquerque.
Cool if he did Last Trip & Albuquerque

Yes Sandy, I got the deluxe edition and it came autographed by Patti (hope that you got the same, got mine via a link that she sent in an email). Best 20 bucks I've spent in a very long time!

And you are right about the fans' respect T, hope they show up in droves and listen carefully. Worst I've seen was Victoria Williams opening during the '92 solo tour; played an impassioned set in spite of the assholes in the audience. Runner up is Sonic Youth the year before (see videos with Neil fans with fingers extended and/or in their ears). Maybe fans can take a queue from Neil and learn a thing or two.

"Don't give up...DON'T YOU EVER FUCKING GIVE UP!!!"

And Sandy I forgot to mention: how great are the photos in that deluxe edition?! The one taken by their dad of Jackson and Jesse in North Carolina (looks like Outer Banks) back when they were "just kids" is one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Long live Fred "Sonic" Smith!!!

Take a "queue"?! That's my cue to get in line and sign off...gotta love those homonyms!

Received some very sad news from the Young at Heart community. Four members of this extraordinary group have passed recently and attention must be paid. As a lifelong music lover, I can tell you that I've never seen any group that embodies the mystical combination of punk and professionalism better than these wonderful human beings. Bob Cilman is a saint and should be inducted into the HOF for his audacious and profound use of the American Songbook in all its glorious wonder.

I leave you with Bob's tribute to his friends and musicians. May you stay forever young....

from Y@H email 7.13.2012

It's been a rough couple of months for Young@Heart.

4 Beloved members have passed away. Fran Saed and Louise Canady were current members. Donald Jones was a member from 2002-2006 and Ralph Intorcio was with us from 1984-2004. They all added so much life to the group.

Fran had a heart as big as the ocean and that fabulous Brooklyn accent that made songs like "Musta Got Lost" and "It's MY Life" ring with an air of authenticity.

Louise Canady had an amazingly beautiful and powerful voice. There was a reason we started our theater show "End of the Road" and our concert show "Alive and Well" with Louise. For anyone who had thoughts that our work was a gimmick, Louise dispelled that notion as soon as you heard her sing.

Donald Jones could have you dancing in the aisles or weeping in your seat. His take on "Hound Dog" was full of rhythm and soul and his version of Neil Young's "Helpless" created a quiet reverence in the audience. He had such a beautiful range.

Everyone adored Ralph Intorcio. His send-ups of Carol Channing and Carmen Miranda were well known, but he had such great command of the stage. The Young@Heart would not be what we are today if it weren't for the years that we spent with Ralph Intorcio.

They will all be in our hearts forever.

Sandy I hope you'll get to see Patti and her band play sometime soon. Too bad they aren't opening for the shows you'll be at, but your first one at Red Rocks is the second show of the tour--that's almost a guaranteed masterpiece. Can't wait to hear about it from you!

It will be so cool if Neil and Patti perform together. I saw her twice with Dylan during the '95 Fall tour. The second time was at The Orpheum and it was a big deal show: Thurston Moore was there and I saw Allen Ginsburg with the great photographer Elsa Dorfman. Patti did an incredible set...it was very early on in her comeback. During Bob's set, he said some very nice things about Patti and called her out for a duet. They did Dark Eyes and it was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Patti has written about this, saying how they were so close the sweat from Dylan's eyelashes would hit her arm.

Mr. Henry, that program was so uplifting. Did you know those people personally? i get the sense you're from Boston or that area. I think people here can watch the documentary Young@Heart either on hulu or netflix if they're interested. (Gut goes with netflix.)

Music is the universal antidote for a lot of things. It is used as healing therapy and recently was used to bring a kid out of a coma.

Thanks for the update. My deepest condolences...
