"Oh! Susannah" by The Byrds
With all of the anticipation for the upcoming album Americana by Neil Young & Crazy Horse, there's been a lot of focus on the song "Oh! Susannah".
And we were reminded that the last song on The Byrds 1965 album Turn, Turn, Turn was "Oh Susanna". (thanks Mark!)
From the liner notes for Americana by Neil Young & Crazy Horse for the song "Oh, Susannah":
This song written by Stephen Foster was originally performed on September 11, 1847. The Americana version was arranged with a new melody by Tim Rose and was originally performed by The Big Three in 1963, and updated by Tim Rose and the Thorns in 1964. This band did a lot of arrangements of folk songs that were changed to be rock and roll songs and called folk-rock. Tim Rose was one of the pioneers of folk- rock. Much of the music of Americana is based on this idea.
Set for a June 5th release, you can now pre-Order "Americana" on Amazon.com (Thanks! You'll be helping to support us.)

Screw that! How many got to hear the Crazy Horse version streaming off some french site? It's gone now but was up for a few days. I listened to it like 9 times but when I went back for more, it was gone. It's funky. Good groove! I'm so ready! Still have 1) Tour and 2) Trunk Show on my list, and hell, now even Journey's is not available for pre-order or anything!! It's falling off the edge of the earth, just like Trunk Show! But we still have to cherish what we have! Isn't that what it's all about?!

I hope Neil's version is better than this...
Check out soundcloud. Someone saved the Crazy Horse version and put it on soundcloud
Sorry. It is gone from soundcloud now. Looks like Neil is not down with letting people hear the music yet.
My 2$: It was raw like crazy horse, but I did not get that feeling I normally get with crazy horse. Seemed sort of disjointed and not as inspired as Greendale or Broken Arrow. This may be because it is a cover song. Please do not attack me Thrashed. This is my opinion and can not wait to hear the rest of the album to make a better opinion. Any Neil is good Neil :)

Here's the song by the Horse.

That version on Youtube is recorded from a recorded version from the internet. So it has been recorded digitally from a website twice and it sounds like shit.
Be prepared for the NY and CH original.

Journeys in theaters does not equal Journeys on DVD. See Trunk Show. On a positive note, my sound cloud stream of "Oh Susannah" is still cached on my work computer!! And Jesse James, it may not of grabbed you but it has me by the throat!!! Love it!! Can't wait to hear the rest.....

Neil's been doing this arrangement for a long time. In putting together my own "Oh Susannah" cover for Neil's Americana contest, I decided to go an entirely different route... neither the traditional version nor this one from 1963. I hope folks are open to more new interpretations of a song that's 165 years old!
No offense to Neil, but his version of "Oh Susannah" sounds A LOT like the song "Venus" by Bananarama.
See for yourselves...

Finally someone else too noticed the similarities with Venus, original by Shocking Blue.
I want some of whatever you Bananarama people are smoking. Seriously......

From what I've heard of Neil's 'Oh! Susannah', It's about as inspired and passionate as 'Ain't Got No T-Bone'. For those of you who hold T-Bone close to your hearts, you will be thrilled. As for myself I'm hoping that there's more to the picture then meets the ears on the album. Just sayin !
got mashed potatoes!! Got Neil Young and Crazy Horse in 2012!!!!!!!
Thank you God
