From Sounds of Neil Young coming to Maclab Centre via All Neil All Night - Leduc Representative - by Bobby Roy:
For Kit Johnson, being a musician for more than 30 years has allowed him to play with other greats, travel the world and do what he loves for a living.
“I haven’t made a cent from anything else. I’ve loved every moment of it and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else,” said Johnson of his life-long career as a musician.

One of the groups Johnson has been working with is All Neil All Night, a band that celebrates the music of the legendary Neil Young. The group’s success of performing Young’s songs comes from their recreation of not only his songs, but also the performance of them.
“We try our best to recreate the vibe and people have told us that is one of the aspects about our show they really like. We try to capture the whole spirit of Neil Young and that’s why we love doing it,” explained Johnson, whose voice shares an unmistakable resemblance to that of Young’s.

When I first heard Neil was back with the Horse, I thought, well, that's logical. The Horse is the next step after the Springfield after all.
But reading Neil's comments in Uncut ( http://www.uncut.co.uk/neil-young-on-his-new-album-americana-news )
it struck me Neil was actually using the Horse to step even farther back. This all even older music, obviously. And there are touchstones - songs he did with the Squires, in Squires arrangements. High Flying Bird, a song he saw Stephen sing with The Company. This is a step even farther back.
The Horse is playing the role of the Squires here as Neil continues to explore other parts of himself, of his past and of his music. Not that this will actually sound like the Squires. I expect all the majesty, noise and impact of the Horse. I expect it to sound like Neil and Crazy Horse recorded it today, not like a nostalgia exercise. But it is an interesting exploration for Neil. And a telling nod to Stephen that he sings on This Land and gets a namecheck in the notes for High Flying Bird.
As for those who worry about girl's choirs and imperialism and such in Neil's music or artwork - hey, it's just music. He's just going where the muse leads him and trying to make art and have fun. No Native Americans or young girls or fans of hard rocking Neil Young were injured in the making of this music.
