But the performance that brought the crowd to its feet and seemed to capture the rock and roll spirit of the early Beatles came from Neil Young and Crazy Horse. Mr. Young, his long grey hair spilling out from under his white hat, launched into “I Saw Her Standing There” in a loose, free style, letting the guitars ring as he sang the teenage anthem with a snarl and launched into a post-modern guitar solo in which the melody jumped, stuttered and seemed to cry out in pain. Simply put, the song rocked, sounding as if it could have been recorded yesterday.
“Paul!” Mr. Young said after he finished, raising his hand in a salute, while the crowd applauded wildly.

From Paul McCartney rocks out for his Hollywood star - Entertainment - NZ Herald News:
"Let me tell you a little bit about our friend Paul here just as a musician," said Young, wearing a black leather Buffalo Springfield tour jacket. "When I was in high school and the Beatles came out, I loved the Beatles and I tried to learn how to play like them, and no one could figure out what Paul was doing on the bass. Not only was he playing differently because he plays left-handed, he played notes that no one had put together before -- in a way that made us stand in awe of this great musician."
Young said McCartney, 69, was "at the top of his game, he said, adding: "Like Charlie Chaplin was a great actor, that's how I look at Paul.
"Yet even with all of that craft that he has and his ability to put melodies and chords and feelings together, it's the soul that comes out of his music that makes me feel so good and so happy to be here with him ... today," he said.

Since a bunch of folks have asked, here's what we think.
After some consideration, we now don't think Neil & Crazy Horse will play "A Day in the Life". After playing on 2010 tour, it's been there, done that. And its mainly a Lennon song.
We also don't see Helter Skelter being played. Song has some bad vibes from a different era.
We'd really like to see a medley of songs. But not sure this is the time or place for CH to pull off. Also, the car songs like "Why Don't We Do it in the Road?" don't seem right for the Horse.
So what song then?
Yes, we think Paul will join Neil & Crazy Horse on the finale.
And it would seem that "Hey Jude" would be somewhat logical. Maybe too predictable.
Well, whatever, happens, we think it will be a truly spectacularly historic night.
we wish we could all be there.
have fun.
tune back in Saturday morning.
I Will.....as in
Who knows how long I've loved you?
You know I love you still
Will I wait a lonely lifetime?
If you want me to, I will
For if I ever saw you
I didn't catch your name
But it never really mattered
I will always feel the same
Love you forever and forever
Love you with all my heart
Love you whenever we're together
Love you when we're apart
And when at last I find you,
Your song will fill the air
Sing it loud so I can hear you
Make it easy to be near you
For the things you do
Endear you to me
Oh, you know I will.
I will
Do they air the MusiCares concert on TV?
Are those your words Sony?

Of all the hats Neil wore in the past, this is the only one that doesn't look good…
On the topic of what song they're gonna play, I'd vote for "all you need is love". It's a good closing song, and it's got a message that Paul and Neil continue to preach.
The Horse will be able to make it their own, I can already hear them galloping thru...
I think Live and Let Die is a song that Neil and the Horse could set on fire. They could even bring in some horns and a kids chorus...
doc - I Will is a McCartney tune off the The Beatles White Album. Personally, I think Neil will..do this song.

....... i can hear a medley
...... Why Don't we do it in the Road
..... Get Back
........ and end w/ A Day in the Life ........ w/ Old Black in a sustained feedback fade as Neil, Maccca & the Horse wave & walk offstage.
all you need is love? a day in the life? hell, why not within you without you then? this is a tribute to PAUL, dipshits. so how about suggesting a PAUL song?
I agree that "I Will" is a song that neil can sing. Many of Paul's other songs.....Neil doesn't really have the voice for. "Live and Let Die" might be on the edge of what Neil can sing. When Neil sings up high, his voice gets a little fragile. Not really a rock n roll belter that McCartney was.
Well, about 12 hrs to go...It will be exciting if some photos or video of the band come out in tomorrow's news! Other than one photo that came out a few years back (was it at MusicCares 2010???), No one has really seen the Crazy Horse guys around. At least I haven't!
Something of Ram, Crazy Horse are an interesting and unorthodox bunch and so was the album Ram one of Paul's best!
Helter Skelter....bad vibes? Don't you remember? U2 stole it back for us all ;) ;) I kid but its my pick for the best possible song for the Return of the Horse. Whatever song they choose I hope it is dirty and sludgy. I have been really enjoying some Broken Arrow era mid-90's Crazy Horse live material the past few weeks. If we can take Horse Back as any indication this is direction they are leaning towards. But knowing Neil anything can happen. Hope to see tour dates in a few days.
paul got a star on the walk of fame in hollywood yesterday. neil was there. plenty of pictures of the old fucks here:

Helter Skelter is custom made for the Horse .... Whats the sense of having them perform is they can't bust loose and do what they do best, otherwise neil could just go solo ... Helter Skelter doesn't belong to Charlies legacy. It's time to reclaim it for what it was intended to be, a blistering rocker that suits the Horse to a 'T' .....
@Brent & @BIGCHIEF - we hear you on Helter Skelter.
Didn't recall about U2 reclaiming HS?
Yes, it seems to fit that CH could tear it up on that one.
We just think based on Neil's comments on the whole matter that its just not a song to even consider.
but we've been wrong before and we'll be wrong again someday...
Will this be streamed at Live Grammys?
`Highway` would be another good one, they could really rock it! And it would be great for Neil`s vocal range I would say.
Little Lamb Dragonfly :)
Your kidding right
Multiple tweets are reporting Saw Her Standing There
They'll do a day in the life .... But it would be great to hear why don't we do it on the road. Please record it.
I Saw Her Standing There is a perfect choice, especially given Neil's comments about growing up listening to The Beatles. If you think about it, that's our most common cultural feature in America and maybe throughout the world, an intense love for this group. And no song captures that first blush of love better than this one.

Nice call on "Saw Her Standing There!"
Side note to Paul; quit the botox & dyed hair for chrissakes. It draws attention to the obvious. Neil, you look great as always au natural!
Paul only colours his hair, never had botox, his face shows his age if you look close, he is just fit, healthy and youthful for his age, that's all, having said that no one has aged as cool as Neil Young
"I Saw Her Standing There".
The 1rst cut on The Beatles debut album "Please Please Me".
Leave it to Neil!
Who would've thunk? I have to say that was not even close to what I would have guessed. I don't recall anybody else suggesting it as well. Once again, it just proves that the only thing you can predict about Neil is that he is unpredictable ......
GrungeMan, I hear ya! I thought the same - Leave it to Neil. He takes the first frikin' evidence of the whole Beatles phenominon and inverts it right to the present moment. He might just be the most tuned in individual I've ever been exposed to. And God bless Paul McCartney who has suplanted Dick Clark as the worlds oldest teenager. Paul still is the bomb. A great human. Lucky we are to have been alive while'st these two have crafted their artwork. Joy is in the heart.
Several anonymous postings suggested this song several days ago.

"I Saw Her Standing There" , I like it. I can't wait to see the video. The pictures rock ass and hopefully Neil makes this a staple on the Horse 2012 tour. As many have posted earlier this harkens back to Neil listenting to the Beatles in the 60's and being inspired. Hopefully the muse leads to a year of the HORSE!
Don't know if any of you have seen or heard this, but Chromatics has covered Into The Black...

I notice the guest musicians on stage with Paul McCartney closing the grammy's...Joe Walsh, Dave Grohl etc...why not Neil as well?
