"Stop Sniffin' That Smokin' Gun"
As the U.S.A. led coalition bombs yet another oil-rich country led by a Muslim dictator, is it time yet to consider whether we should should stop sniffin' that smokin' gun? Or is this just Freedom v. 2011?
Here's just another in a long line of Neil Young prophecies, 1987's "Mideast Vacation" captured at the zeigeist of 1980's paranoia.
From concert at the Bridge School Benefit with Crazy Horse on Oct. 10, 2001. This marked Neil Young's first post 9-11 performance (note NYFD hat) at the zeigeist of 2000's paranoia.
Aboard Air Force One
But I never did find him
And the C.I.A. said Son,
You'll never be a hero
......Your flyin' days are done
It's time for you to go home now
Stop sniffin' that smokin' gun."
~~Neil Young, "Mideast Vacation, 1987
Note the blowback from the last time we did this...
ps - or -- as Billy Bragg would say -- it's all about the price of oil...
pss - and speaking of Nobel Peace Prize winners...

Around the world.
President Obama recieved the prestigious 'Nobel Peace Prize' not based on past achievements, but rather what the committee was certain he would accomplish in the future. Has any past recipiants had to relinquish their awards before?
Propaganda always phoney.

@BIGCHIEF - this guy's arrogance coupled with the media's proclivity to defend nearly everything he does is helping to sink the USA further into a deep abyss. But obviously that's exactly what Obama wants. All one needed to do before foolishly casting a vote for a Senator from Illinois who hadn't even served half of a 1st term before running for President would have been to look at the "church" that he and his family sat in willingly for 20+ years in Chicago. The anti-American (and anti-semetic and anti caucasian) hatred that spews from "Reverend" Wright is appalling. I love how people still choose to pretend that Obama loves his country. That notion would be laughable if reality were not so tragic. We have a narcissistic manchild with a huge chip on his shoulder who seems to despise the very citizenry that he was elected to serve.
And yes now we have a Nobel Peace Prize recipient ordering a military attack on another nation without Congressional approval, without a speech to the American people - nothing at all. Stunning. Say what you want about George W. Bush - I never for a second doubted his sincere love for America and for his desire to spread genuine democracy to the Middle East. And before the invasion of Iraq began, he obtained Congressional approval and gave an Oval Office speech to his fellow countrymen. I think Obama is quite sympathetic to communist/socialist regimes all around the world.
The sad truth is that he's been steadily attacking the USA since the moment he came into office - just without the bombs...
The very first thing he did after being sworn into office was to go on that world wide tour and bow down before our known enemies and apologize for all of our past sins as a nation. I'm certain that Quaddafi was among those that he paid homage to. The most mind blowing thing I heard was a speech that Vice President Biden had made as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee when he stated "If the president declares war without congressional approval, I will be first in line to begin impeachment proceedings" ... I wonder if his offer still stands?
Now, about the music:
I always thought this was one of Neil's best songs of the 80s. The lyrics are great and I think it's got a great groove. And I hadn't seen this version before. Thanks for shining a light on it!
Oh yea - Neil's fantastic songwriting and sounds of life that have been a gift to the world... :)
Politics just suck ass beyond description.
War sucks even more in ways that written or spoken words cannot fully express.
I stopped following the news of the world so closely that I get caught up in the madness of it all. But I still stay well informed enough to continue on through life with the comforting assurance that God's providence will prevail in His own perfect time. We are all on a personal trip towards that which we choose to seek.
I am on the Spirit Road with eyes wide open.
Can't wait for this upcoming tour
Oh by the way Bigchief - before he went on his worldwide apology tour, the very 1st thing Obama did was to return the bust of Winston Churchill that had been in the Oval Office back to the British embassy. That statue was clearly mocking him since it represented a genuine leader who stood strong against the tyrants of the world during his time as the leader of England.
Oh well - 'Looking for a Leader' applies even more now than it did in 2006
Sad state of affairs, meet the new boss same as the old boss, you really can't make this up -- the great hope who staked his candidacy on an anti war platform now firing hundreds of cruise missles into a foreign capital without any concrete plan, without permission of Congress, without the approval of the American people ... opening up a third war at a time when our military and military community is has been stretched to the breaking point, unemployment is 10% and we're broke, we're firing teachers to save money ... so where are the billions coming from to fund this new Libyan experiment ... if I wasn't seeing this with my own eyes I couldn't have believed it ... Neil was right ... looking for a leader, and:
Who'll be the one to lead this world
Who'll be the beacon in the night
Who'll be the one to lead this world
Who'll be the beacon in the night
Who'll be the one to lead the nations
And protect God's creations
I predicted this attack weeks ago, it's gonna be Iraq all over again. This time, they didn't even bother to come up with an excuse (like WMDs), but came up with the protecting civilians thing. Makes me wonder why the UN or US didn't intervene in Tunisia, Egypt or currently Bahrain. Thrust me it's just a matter of time before Kadhaffi is either killed or overthrown, the country shot to bits and the population divided between people for and people against the old 'regime'/'dictator'. Off course, the US government will be willing to lend a hand in 'rebuilding' the country, allowing corporate America to earn a few more billion along the way and dispatch some troops to 'aid' the population, allowing the weapons industry to make a few more billion. Wars aren't meant to be won, only to be sustained, there is no money in winning a war, after all. Up next: Iran?
@Jonathan: you said -"Politics just suck ass beyond description."
seriously?!
well why is that whenever anything remotely political comes up here, that you rip your teeth into it?
"We have a narcissistic manchild with a huge chip on his shoulder who seems to despise the very citizenry that he was elected to serve."
That's a verbatim C&P of G Beck.
me begins to think ye be nothing more than some mere sock puppet for hire...
