In Memory of LincVolt: We Need "Johnny Magic" Now More Than Ever
After this week's fire that has heavily damaged LincVolt, this video honoring her mechanic "Johnny Magic" seems appropo.
Here's the first version, which was shot entirely in Neil Young's heavy metal hybrid Lincvolt. (Sorry about commercial pre-roll 2X).
The video is rather extraordinary. The four minute video was filmed as a single take while Neil drives LincVolt on the streets of Wichita, KS.
Don't you just love the riffing air guitar @ 2:00 mark.
Also, don't miss Neil's words at fade out...
Another amazing part of the video is that the filming was streamed live on lincvolt.com while fans watched the stream and chatted real time. It was all pretty cool.
Great lyrics on the Motorhead Messiah "Johnny Magic". Maybe not Neil's most poetic but a heartfelt sincere paean to his new best friend. (Lyrics for "Johnny Magic" -- Neil's homage to his LincVolt mechanic Johnathan Goodwin.)
More LincVolt memories from better days.

One good thing to come out of this will be the re-launch of Linc-Volt will hopefully bring a little more awereness of what Neil and the boys are trying to do. Which is one of the main reasons they did LV-1. LV-1a will also have a couple of upgrades as well I'm sure.
Instead of cursing the darkness
Light a candle for where we're goin'
There's something ahead worth looking for.
When the light of time is on us
We will see our moment come
and the living soul inside will carry on.
I'm glad we're revisiting Fork in the Road. Maybe now (ahem!) some people will start to enjoy it, and see it for how (aherm!) AWESOME it is!
Oooh Johnny Johnny!

"Coca Cola in my hand, in the promised land."
In fact, I hereby declare Fork in the Road better than Le Noise! (a compliment to Fork, not a detriment to Le Noise (which is awesome toOoO!)
) <- left this off the end of the last post, sorry.
Matt, I agree 100%, FITR is a great album, especially when played loud when driving. I am surprised at the hosility it often generates from fans...
I played that Fork in th Road in honor of LV the other night after learning of her troubles. VERY underated. Neil doesn't make too much bad music. And people said it was just a bunch of noise, weren't they ever wrong.
Of course music itself creates subjective opinions as to whether or not it is "good" or whatever adjective may fit - so here's mine:
FITR has two excellent tracks - 'Light a Candle' and the title track. The rest - I don't know - pretty much sucks. Neil, caught up in the passion of his LV project whipped out a batch of new songs - and for that I love him - that's Neil. He did the same thing with 'Living with War' - caught up in the passion he delivered an entire album based on that subject. On LWW he hit the nail on the head and I don't think there's a weak track on there - I love it and for most of 2006, it didn't leave my cd player.
But FITR justs doesn't do it for me - and that's more than ok. It's Neil Young - long may he run.
Peace and Love (Lennon's good-bye)
Ah well, to each their own. It's a multifaceted world of varying tastes and affectations. Gotta love it.
Jonathan, I also really like When Worlds Collide and Cough up the Bucks. I mean, Cough is innovative and crazay! It's weird, funny, topical, and has a great guitar lick in it. Ah well. Can't win 'em all.
Give it 20 years. Our kids are gonna listen to this album and think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, I am certain of it! lol
Matt
Hi Matthew - you know you may be right and I'm not being sarcastic at all!! I'm totally open to the possibility that FITR will indeed grow on me over time. It wouldn't be the first time with Neil or many other artists' albums that I initially wrote off only to come back to years later with a new appreciation. You're right that 'Cough up the Bucks' has a killer riff - just don't like where it goes after the riff starts.
Take care.
Such good news: LV will be back

how great is this?
