KRON4 | Fire Damages Rock Star Neil Young's San Carlos Warehouse
From | abc7news.com | Fire in in San Carlos warehouse damages Neil Young's property by Teresa Garcia:
SAN CARLOS, Calif. (KGO) -- Shortly before 3:00 Tuesday morning, firefighters started battling a stubborn fire at a 15,000 square foot warehouse on the 500 block of Quarry Road. It was reported by a security guard in the area.
The warehouse is leased by rock legend Neil Young.
Fire crews say some of Young's now burned property inside that warehouse includes cases and cases music equipment and instruments. There are also at least six vintage cars, and two or three of those were damaged.
Firefighters also tried saving many paintings stacked up on pallets. They were able to save about 60 to 70 percent of the property inside.
Nobody has been injured and there's no word on a cause.
So far, the fire department is not looking at this as a suspicious fire.
Adjacent warehouses did not catch fire.

Oh no... this is terrible. I'm not a paranoid guy or a conspiracy theorist, but I have to wonder how that fire started, and hope this wasn't an arson attempt. I'm glad they feel most of it is salvageable. I don't care much about Neil's cars, but I do care about his gear and the irreplaceable memorabilia.
Let's hope no Archive stuff!
That's a bummer no matter what or who's stuff is gone. I watched my dad's business go down in flames 20 years ago. All that stuff got replaced. This inventory probably can not.
Sorry Neil. Hope it's not too bad.
Not Old Black!
Hope nothing irreplaceble has been lost Neil. What a bummer!
Yeah, it's the irreplaceable stuff I hope was kept to a minimum, and hopefully storage status means "relatively" less important stuff. No matter what, fires are very unfortunate, and this is not good news. However, two of my sisters went through devastating fires, and were amazed at all the positive things that came out of it. Hopefully this will be the case for Neil.
A Friend Of Yours
Well, that sucks. Sorry to hear. Let's hope for the best for Neil and family.
I hate to say this, but that looked like LV's tail on one of the footage releases broadcast. One shot even illuminated the plate LINC V. The webcam showed the car parked just inside of a building, I REALLY hope I am wrong here....dammit.
@buffalospringfieldadventure - all i have to really say is that i hope you're wrong. Not sure why LV would be stored here? Thought it was usually in a garage being worked on?
whatever the fire loss, we may never really know. it is afterall, "stuff".
but here's the thing. Neil loses L.A. in January, then Ben in the summer along w/ Lanois accident.
our concern would be the physic toll these cumulative losses can have on one.
this much sadness is too much sorrow....
Sorry to hear about your loss Neil . My families thoughts are with you all .

I'm very sorry to hear about this fire and I do hope, that it is not as bad as it sounds at the moment.
The webcam pic on LV's blog showed:

last night.
Just finished a turbine test. Bottomless pit in my stomach.

@BSAdvenure - kind of weird how the guy comes out saying "It's only smoke damage",,,
MQ is reporting that LV was there:

Over and out. shit.
My heart goes out to Neil and anyone else affected by this, but of course the most important thing is that no-one was hurt.
agree WR.
but if it turns out that LV is toast, it'll feel like family...
she was such a fine ol' girl...
so shiny,
so quiet...
long may she run...
LV feels like a good friend to me and I still hope, that she is not destroyed...
Hate to say it but based on 1:46 - the end of the abc7 video, I wouldn't be surprised if the fire started with Lincvolt. At 1:46 LV is shown and the next few shots show it on fire and being hosed down.
My jaw dropped and my stomach knotted when I saw this story- it truly is like hearing bad news about a close friend you know well.
I hate to say this but it seems this shit only happens to Neil. Say what you will about coincidences, etc, and we all know how lucky and blessed the man is, but it seems with every good comes the bad and vice versa. Lots of strange occurrences have happened to Neil and his family over the years- I wont bother to list them but CHRIST, some things were so major that I'm not sure many others would have easily recovered-and Neil's had a bunch. Just goes to show how strong Neil and his family is. Lets be glad no one was hurt either.
I just hope all is well and there was not too much damage. Hopefully Neil can take lemons and turn them into art and get a great song outta this.
Sorry to hear it
This is such awful news. I'm dreading to hear what's gone!
I'm so glad no-one was hurt, though. Like some others here, I've also witnessed a fire close to home and it's such a distressing experience.
"You got love to burn..."
HOLA , THE NEWS SHOT SHOWS LINCVOLT INSIDE THE WAREHOUSE DOOR , ON FIRE , LINC V PLATE , NEIGHBOR SAYS HE SAW SOMEONE THERE AT 5:30 PM MONDAY , DID THEY DRIVE THE LINCVOLT IN THERE , PARK IT , LEAVE , AND HAVE IT CATCH FIRE ? I'M A PRO AUTO MECHANIC AND THIS LINCVOLT WAS AN EXPERIMENTAL RIG , MINI-TURBINE ENGINE , LITHIUM IRON BATTERIES , ETC , I WOULD BET THAT SOMETHING SHORTED OUT AND CAUGHT FIRE , HEARTBREAK HOTEL !!! I JUST SAW NEIL AND BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD A FEW DAYS AGO AND HE PLAYED " BURNED " , HEARTBREAK HOTEL !!! THIS IS JUST TERRIBLE , WHY NO SPRINKLER SYSTEM ? SMOKE DETECTORS ? WATCHMEN ? BUMMER TO THE MAX !!! SO SORRY NEIL !!!!! I CAN FEEL YOUR PAIN !!!
as someone who has lost irreplaceables and hours of creative work in a senselss burglary, I feel Neil's pain.
I pray that all of the creative work was saved, and am saddened by the loss of LV, Neil's huge passion of the last 3 years. With Larry, Ben and now LV gone, what will happen next?
I'm very shocked and saddened by this news, and the developing story concerning LincVolt and the role she may have played. As someone who has lost everything to
fire once, I know how truly terrible it can feel to lose something of immense personal value, and irreplaceable things.
My heart goes out to Neil Young, his family, colleagues and friends. They have a tough time ahead, reclaiming and recovering what they can, assessing the
damages, and coping with the losses. This is a very big bummer.
I feel very sorry for Neil Young and all of the pain he has gone through this year. Perseverance is one of his strong suits, thankfully enough. It's just too
bad he's had to rely on it so much lately.
Yours,
HarryO - a pipe to share
Makes me wonder if it's the Warehouse that we saw Pictures of the Lincvolt Auction Articles taken? That would include things like Tour/PA Gear as well as the Cars you could see in the background of those pics. You could see Stage Props there like the Giant Amps etc. from RNS. So many amazing treasures and so much heart and soul of the man. Here's to hearing about the wonderful things that were saved. Thanks to the Crew that did what they could! Sad News. On another note. Being a Player, I can't see the treasures like Old Black, Several Martins...etc...being out of hands reach for Neil.
@HarryO - thanks, those are all the right words for this time.
We're really struggling here with all the loss.
But this isn't really just about a car or stuff.
memories are irreplaceable..
Luckily there're no killed or injured. All the material things(concert equipment, cars, etc)can be replaced.Naturally, everything has an affective value for Neil and other people, like many objects in our everyday life. I guess that the important stuff is not preserved in a rented warehouse, but at the ranch, at least I hope. Personally, I think that the concert pianos, the wooden Indian, the Eagle, just 3-4 guitars are really essential for the Neil Young history. And naturally his recordings and lyrics manuscripts represent the real historical and artistic treasures.

When it comes to your property, what do you expect in case of loss (hurricane, tornado, earthquake, flood, fire, etc.)?
The ordinary insurance policyholder now has access: basic rights and vital information—even footing, equality—the security of knowing what to expect in terms of disaster preparedness/recovery—fortitude. You would think that's already part of the bargain. If only that were true! Thanks to advertising it is a world-wide myth. Want your insurance claim rights and your insurance company's claim responsibilities, to tag along with your insurance policy? Ask yourself, "What have I got without that, besides TV ads?"

Was that confirmed? He didn't have the car in storage did he? He kept it in the garage. Was that the warehouse where Joni kept her stuff, too?
Pretty much sucks, but glad no one was hurt.
Indeed, let's hope no archive stuff is right.
In other news, Teresa Garcia is smokin'
Neil, I am so sorry for your loss. I am also horrified at the countless people mocking you and your environmental efforts on some of the news sites. I wish I lived closer -- I am a lifelong fan and you have brought me so much joy I would consider it an honor to help you clean up, catalogue items, etc. I am so glad that no one was injured. I hope your archival items were all salvageable.
Hopefully, no Neil Young recordings were damaged or destroyed, considering that he still has not released the upcoming Archives Vol. 2. Does anyone know which guitars or amps were damaged or destroyed in the fire? I respect Neil for wanting to go green and have hybrid electric cars, but the working class people can't afford them. Perhaps the wealthy are out of touch? Better yet, remove the troops from the middle east and use that money to subsidize hybrid cars for Americans. America first!
Sorry to hear of your loss Neil. I went through a fire in 2005 and lost 3 of my vintage Harleys from 1947 - 1959.and some of my old windup phonographs. Fires are un forgiving. I hope that you and your family will be ok.. Bill H. - Michigan

Perhaps it was a case of arson as I thought at first. Turned out faulty wiring was to blame on this unfortunate disaster.
