Well, I had a listen to Angry World, Love and War and Walk with Me over a couple glasses of wine last night.
Excellent sounding stuff! Totally trippy mixes, great soundscapes and (as usual) great songwriting. I absolutely cannot wait for the 28th!
This might be even better than FITR.
Love and War in particular is really beautiful.
The electric mixes are so weird and cool. When Lanois said there hasn't been anything like it, he wasn't kidding. There really hasn't.
Matthew, where did you hear Love and War?
Here is Love and War. I cried when i heard it.

Yep, that's where I heard it. I very nearly cried myself. Super emotive.
love the fact that Neil is putting out one of the best albums of his career...FORTY years after he came onto the scene. Pure inspiration.
Thanks for the link. Wow. The songs are amazing. Walk with Me sounds like a love letter to his fans. Can't wait to hear more.

Wow, I was going to TRY and not hear the album before it came out at all. In fact my plan was to hold off hearing it until I could get my vinyl copy (even if it gets delayed, which usually happens with Warner's releases) but the temptation was far far far too much to bare.
I must say, the "sonics" that Lanois spoke of fit 'Walk With Me' so well! I'm in no way disappointed with his hand in production so far, and that guitar sound with the delay-ridden vocals! Good god this record is going to be one of my favorites for sure, I can't wait now, I feel like kid waiting for Christmas again!
Thanks Neil!

exactly what I needed , thank's to be that creative emotionaly speaking !
OMG Wow!! So that`s what Lanois meant by `sonic effects`! Just amazing. This is surely going to be huge. Neil at nearly 65 is on the top of his game.
So glad I`ve finally got round to ordering that new hi-fi system......

wow, very moving, I can see Love & War touching a big demographic. What a song. He did it again.
I love the haunting guitar sound (and playing) on Love and War - definitely some echoes of the old west in it. Evocative of big, empty desert nightscapes. The "Daddy's not comin' home" refrain is so heart-rending.
There's a touch of Dead Man to L&W, though the electric songs don't really seem to harken back to that one. They remind me more of Trans in a way. That unabashed experimentalness does anyway - though these are way more organic and accessible. Though like Trans' overuse of the vocoder and electronic instruments, the "sonics" on this seem to have been equally abused, in a really great, playful and fun way. Angry World is just slathered with it. The song almost disappears in echoes of overlayed guitar and rivers of echo and the looped vocals. It's a big, dense, beautiful mess of psychedelia threatening to swallow the whole thing, but there's Neil right there in the middle of it, holding it all down and keeping it anchored with that voice that almost seems too small and frail for the song, but somehow isn't! Lovely!!
Nice, big sound on all three. I can't wait to get the album. It's going to be a really special one.
where can i hear angry world?
The (apparently) official video for Angry World is here:

Right now I am still feeling the residuals of nerve-endings tingling, shivering-goose-bump hairs on end. Rock n' Roll is alive- still breathing in swirling, grinding, sonic breaths on Le Noise. Neil(with help from Lanois) has somehow taken all his experience, his career and shouted it down the echoing hallway of time, down past fifty-five years worth of rock- in all its splendid and raged glory, mixed that sound with personal sorrow and all the the confusion, anger, and frustration of the evening news then plugged it in and and hit the power button. Le Noise is the chemical reaction caused when genius, anger and electricity are combined and fed through Guitar amps.
All the doubters, the haters can eat their shoe. From what I've heard so far this album is it! Its so different, yet unmistakably Neil. At a time when rock seems to be hobbling along with aging, sorry limp- here comes Neil, on two strong legs, with the juices flowing, head-bobbing, body swaying over his Gretsch. Its not 1969, 1979, or 1989 its 2010 and Neil is releasing what already looks like one his best albums ever.
Unbelievable!
'Walk With Me'...what a great song. I first heard the live versions on YouTube, and this "studio" version does not disappoint. Excellent!
