Randomly Blogged: Astrid Young, Pegi Young, "Tillman Story", LincVolt, IRF, Simply Red
From WOWIO News » Book of the Month: Being Young by Astrid Young:
For September’s free Book of the Month, we’ve teamed up with Insomniac Press to share a title that tells two interwoven stories. It offers an honest and intimate portrait of legendary musician Neil Young, as seen by his half-sister Astrid Young. This fresh, personal perspective is seen in the broader fabric of Astrid’s life, exploring the tensions and joys within their famous family along with an insider’s look at the music scene through Astrid’s own career.
This PDF eBook includes a new chapter from the updated print edition plus a bonus, WOWIO-exclusive video interview with Astrid Young.
“We thought Being Young would be an excellent fit for our Book of the Month because it has such a wide appeal, not only to fans of Astrid, Neil and Scott Young (Neil and Astrid’s well-known journalist father), but also to anyone curious about what it’s like to be related to a music legend. This title also bridges the generational gap because it speaks to those who grew up listening to Neil Young’s music, as well as the following generations that are curious about the people, their families, and the music that paved the way for much of what they are listening to today,” Kristin Ellison, Editorial Director of WOWIO said.

"Foul Deeds" by Pegi Young
(Zoom Cover)
From Music Review: Pegi Young - Foul Deeds (Limited Edition CD/DVD) - Blogcritics Music by Glen Boyd:
As the spouse of a rock legend, the temptation to immediately dismiss Mrs. Neil Young as a credible artist in her own right (see Yoko Ono or Linda McCartney for reference) is an understandably strong one. But in Pegi Young's case, such a premature rush to judgment would not only be unfair — it would also be dead wrong.
On Foul Deeds — her second solo album and her first for Vapor Records, the indie label started by Neil Young and manager Elliot Roberts — Pegi Young convincingly casts aside any such doubts. The fact is, Pegi shows herself to be coming into her own as both a singer and songwriter quite nicely here.
From Interview: Singer/Songwriter Pegi Young Confesses Her Foul Deeds And More by Glen Boyd on the passing of Ben Keith:
Pegi Young: Well, of course we didn't know at the time that they were his last shows. So you know, everything was just normal. We just pulled into town like we always do, you know and it was like "that was fun" and everybody was just looking forward to the next show. He really is just a brilliant player, and he plays so many instruments. We always worked really closely on the production and he's just really always been my "go-to" guy. It's just really, really (long pause)...sad, that he's gone.
The new film "Tillman Story" uses Neil Young's "Hawks and Doves" for the opening and closing credits soundtrack.

From Climate Progress: "NSIDC scientist: This year’s rapid Arctic melt “suggests that the ice may have been on the thin side” "
Arctic sea ice continues to shrink apace as we approach the dramatic end to this year’s melt season. The National Snow and Ice Data Center tells me extent dropped to 4.76 million square kilometers today — which is below the majority of even the most recent expert predictions logged with the Study of Environmental Arctic Change (SEARCH).

From The Oregonian on the use of Hawks and Doves in the Tillman story:
http://blog.oregonlive.com/madaboutmovies/2010/09/the_tillman_story_a_director_a.html
“The Tillman Story” begins with the title track from Neil Young’s 1980 album “Hawks and Doves,” a deeply apt choice in that it reveals seemingly incompatible conservative and progressive impulses in the singer. Bar-Lev -- in Portland en route to Pickathon, remember -- brightens in describing the song selection: “One of Pat’s teammates told us, ‘He was a hippy patriot.’ The either/or mentality that we so often apply was something that Pat resisted at every turn. To me, Neil Young is the paradigmatic hippy-patriot, and Pat Tillman too.”
I've always been very vocal about my love and appreciation for Peggy and her music.
I have been enjoying "Foul Deeds" late at night. The mood is just right!
Also, the DVD is great; there's a couple of songs ("Trouble In A Bottle" and "#9 Train") that are not to be found on either CD. I'm especially comforted to see Ben playing his heart out.
I just hope I don't have to wait three (3) more years till her next CD!

I keep hearing that track from Foul Deeds streaming on Neil's site. It's really great. I'm going to have to buy Peggi's record.
Oh great, now there are two Youngs I have to keep buying things from. heh heh
Ah, but they are both, it seems, such wonderful songwriters.
