Lanois to Premiere new Neil Young Songs October 2
Producer Daniel Lanois will premiere new Neil Young songs on October 2 in Toronto.
From Toronto Star:
"At the strike of midnight [Oct. 2] , we will premiere four tracks from the Neil Young record, visually and sonically," Lanois said in a telephone interview this week.
"Lucky for us, we've been filming him as well as recording him. So the performances on the record are captured on film, and we will premiere that on the night of Nuit Blanche."

I've read somewhere that the 4 songs are Rumblin', Sign Of Love, The Hitchhiker, Walk With Me.So this excellent tour is the real preview for the lucky attendants. I'm really curious as Lanois has recorded the Neil voice and has captured the guitar sound.

I'm just wonderin' if any of the great unveiling will be rumblin' its way onto the Internet.
I really want to hear them all produced and whatnot. If it's anything near the standard that Silver and Gold (among my faves!) set, IMO, I'll be lovin' it.
Awesome, can’t wait. I hope there are more tunes than what has been played at the live shows. Judging by the material and the context- (first real solo record, new producer, inspired by the great loss of LA Johnson) I feel this record will be really something special. Neil has been in the zone lately. I think these are his best tunes in a while: they definitely have the spook and they stand as proof that while the Horse and Briggs were part of the nucleus that created some of the best music ever (and Briggs will always be missed), Neil can still reach THE SOURCE on his own and bring back a mysterious chronicle of his trip there, worthy of his great name, and which can still touch us at our most primitive center and causes a warming in our chest and causes goose chills up the neck and down the arms. Neil, simply put, is THE MAN! A true sorcerer. Who comes remotely close? Dylan, who wrote and still writes the greatest poetic and political songs of our time, lacks the ability lately to reach the nerve and hit you where it truly counts (and I LOVE Dylan, believe me). I can’t stop listening to and thinking about Peaceful valley and Love and War- WHAT GREAT SONGS. For anyone who’s doubted Neil lately, listen to these and then try to tell me Neil has lost his way and has been less than inspired lately. THE MAN CAN WRITE A MELODY. This stuff is inspired and inspiring. The man writes what comes to him and had always stayed true to himself. We're just blessed that we can listen and follow his twisted road. May it never end!
Thank you Neil!
P.S.I never seem to tire of praising the man.
Why is it taking so long to come out? Neil normally records live and puts the record out soon. Especially with no band to mix in. Neil has been recording since May, according to Crosby. Reprise must have a marketing campaign scheduled, or Neil will shelve this. Just my opinion based on Neil's previous history, which does not mean very much.

For sure this project won't be shelved. It's obvious Neil is giving this song cycle his full attention in everything detail. I am no Canadian so maybe someone can shed some light onthe meaning of 'Nuit blanche' ( white night), I am certain it is meaningfull for all Canadians.
It seems that mr. Lanois has touched some heartstrings on Neil. From the moment I heard AND saw the new songs on Youtube I noticed Neil used a different acoustic guitar, a smalllbodied Guild. I had a hunch who could be responsible for this. Tonight I googled on 'Lanois' and 'guild guitar'. To me it seems like the first time a producer of Neil has led him to change his trademark acoustic sound. This I found:

On the acoustic side of things Lanois' main Guitar was (still is?) a small bodied Guild M-20 from the 1960's This was the smallest and most basic guitar in the Guild acoustic line. Essentially their "Student" model with mahogany back, sides and top all finished in a dark brown mahogany stain. This guitar has a very small body roughly the size of a Martin "0" or "00". The smaller body size tends to record very well - "Balanced" and not as "Boomy" as a larger guitar.
