Here's a blast from the not too distant past.
The Culture Show on BBC 2: In a rare TV interview, singer-songwriter Neil Young talks to Mark Kermode about the changes of direction his music has taken over forty years.
While originally broadcast 13 Oct 2007, the amazing thing is how relevant the interview is today.
In fact, the interview seems to resonate as a more timely commentary than it did in 2007. Eerie, indeed.

Thanks for putting that out there again .. its really a delightful interview for so many reasons ... its cool to see how nonchalant Neil is when the interviewer says he never liked Neil's music and now he's his newest fan ... a lot of stars would be insulted but Neil takes it in such a natural way ... it reveals how normal he's stayed despite the stardom, fortune, and fame, he comes off as such a regular, albeit super thoughtful, guy. I love when he talks about records that are considered a commercial flop and he's thinking this was a great record, it went against the grain, wasn't trying to be something it wasn't, ect... we've heard these themes over and over but for some reason its delightful to hear him say it ... and you can tell he truly doesn't care if the records are a commercial success or not, he's 100% disconnected from it ... and then he talks about decay, another constant theme, and how is music is a photo not a picture ... the integrity of his music, his overall approach, and process, it impresses me over and over again ... also, how much he cares about the world, the planet, which comes across early in the interview when he says how distressed he feels about a holy war, ect... cool stuff

I don't like the interview too much because Mark Kermode, a film critic over here in the UK, is an arrogant s.o.b.
I really have no idea why he got the honour of interviewing Neil, I mean being a fan for about a week isn't the best criteria to go by, is it?
From the "500 things I love about Neil"...
He always just says it how it is.. no matter who's his audience or interviewer.
Neil on a plate, no garnish, no herbs and spices..just plain raw Neil...always leaves a good taste in ya mouth!

Straight is straight when it comes to and from Neil, whether it's looking ya in the eye or giving it to ya straight. I liked that reference to Dead Man Walking and how he set himself up with the TV's and did it 'live' along with the movie. Another 'in the momemt' attack.He's so genuine it could almost seem contrived. Almost. The magic touch.
Well,the bottom line is that Kermode guy was converted. As in almost every other case, it was really due to lack of exposure.In his situation I'm sure that he probably crammed a bunch of Neils music in preparation for the interview and now he's a fan for life like the rest of us.As for his former arrogance, I'm sure he's now a much sweeter fellow as a result.
