Bruce and Neil Young: Rockin' the Free World
Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young
"You know, the difference between the greatness of Bruce Springsteen and that of Neil Young as someone once explained to me back in college: Bruce makes you think you, too, can be as great as he is; Neil makes you think he is really no better than you are to begin with. Remember that."
Dr. Eric Alterman - Altercation
It is a well established fact that there are very few who can rock the free world like Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young.
And when they team up side by side, the impact is absolutely devastating. Witness the difference in greatness from the Vote for Change Tour in St. Paul, Minnesota on October 5, 2004.

I hadn't seen that before. That was pure muscle. Neil muscled that version of Free World right into Bruce's jaunty, urban fairytale scene. That was thick and leathery.
The comment about the difference between Bruce & Neil is good fodder. Neil certainly comes off that way. Bruce always seems to be climbing to mountain tops. Neil just walks long, winding paths.
He writes his own rules and lives them to the letter. Everyone else just hopes to be invited into the room once and a while.
A great video. Neil you do rock our harts. Come back to Ireland and do a solo tour. Neil is our man if he can not do it knowone cane.
"Rockin' In The Free World"
There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes
But there's a warnin' sign
on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin'
we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan,
but I am to them
So I try to forget it,
any way I can.
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.
I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away,
and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life,
and what she's done to it
There's one more kid
that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love,
never get to be cool.
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.
We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
We got department stores
and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes
for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people,
says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn,
got roads to drive.
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

Thanks for that Thrasher - two great masters at work (and play!). I love Bruce but it sort of shows who is most in awe of the other! Not wishing to open up that old chestnut again of course, lol.

It's only Rock'n'roll and I like it!!!
and John Fogerty is in there too...and Mike Mills (REM) I think...
I saw Wilco in Montclair, NJ on Friday - Bruuuuuuce - and they did a stuuning rendition of Broken Arrow. Since breaking it out in February, this has been the tenth time Wilco covered this gem, according to Wilcobase. The youngish crowd showed little sign of recognition, but the tune was well received in the end. I was psyched that I got a chance to see and hear it and Wilco didn't disappoint. There is something about New Jersey, Keep on Rockin' In The Garden State! Art
