First Public Performance of Mr. Soul
UPDATE: 5/12 - From comment:
It is most definitely not the first performance of "Mr Soul" and is a cleaned up version off a bootleg.
While the song was performed on TV many times (lip sync to the track) it was also played at live gigs as early as Feb 1967.
Beware of imposters and those who don't do their homework.
So, the lesson is to always check your "Ghosts On The Road".
Well, here's something to help get you in the mood for NYA while we cool our heels counting down the days for the Neil Young Archives.
"Mr. Soul"'s first public performance by the Buffalo Springfield from Hollywood Bowl/KHJ Appreciation Night.
Thanks Andy!
Buffalo Springfield on TV Show 'Go!!!' performing Mr. Soul. Recorded: March 5,1967 and Broadcast: April 23,1967.
Sorry, this video is very bad bad bad quality.
So, only 21 days, 3 hours, 47 minutes, and 12 seconds until the Neil Young Archives are released.

Four Strong Winds
wow... piece of "the Last Waltz" history
didnt think this would exist... its an outtake from the the waltz concert at the winterland.
nothing spectacular.. as neil was coked out of his mind that nite and barely pulled off "helpless" and cost scorcese a fortune rotoscoping out the ball of cocaine shoved up his nose. haha that was the seventies for ya!
ps this same guy on youtube has an awesome collection of buffalo springfield tv clips from the 60s, as well as some gram parsons and the byrds... check it out
Damn, I can't believe I've never heard that before. That's some power in Neil's voice right there. Stills is way over-mixed and over the top but jeez, pretty amazing.
Thanks for the links; excellent material.
I was watching some of these old Buffalo Springfield TV show performances a few months ago, and I just couldn't get over what an adorable, cute, and silly guy Neil was in those days.
In one, they're lip-syncing, so Neil keeps raising his hands and grinning while he's supposed to be playing guitar. Such a card. He must have been a real pain for the execs to deal with, even back then.
Also, I agree with dr dip - the fashion, the hair, the whole look going on back then was just fantastic. Today is so bland and dull in comparison.
I'm thinkin' I'm gonna get me an old-style Neil Young haircut...
WICKED! Neil's voice scared the living bejesus out of me. LOVED IT. Bring on the Archives. : ) The only problem with the Archives, of course, is that none of us will ever be seen or heard from again ...
Great version of Mr. Soul, Thrasher!
I'd rather hear something like this on The Archives over a recycled Cinnamon Girl or Down By The River!
Think about how many times Neil has attempted to sell us the same old studio mixes. I can think of Cinnamon Girl on at least 3 different releases, and the Archives will make it 4!
Cough Up The Bucks!
Johnny Rocket!
