You must be kidding me Thrasher... what's track number 5 then?
Where's Sea Change!! That's my favorite of the new songss. Excellent groove.
Nothing to do with this post, but a general request re the blog.
At present you have your feed set to 'partial feed'. This means that when a subscriber views it in a reader, they only get part of the post and have to click on the blog post title to get a new window with the whole post.
any chance you could change this so that we can get the whole post in a reader?
Thanks, BC
Here's a QUESTION for anyone in the know...Archives guy, Thrasher, anyone: I want to Pre-order fork in the Road...now they offer the CD..which this link brings you to (I'd rather do that seeing as it supports Thrashers wheat)...but they also offer Fork in the Road CD/DVD 2 discs. Is that DVD a movie as what was offered with say greendale and LWW? Or is this just an Audio DVD...like Sugar Mountain? If anyone can answer that I'd really appreciate it.....
Keep on bloggin' in the Freeworld 'til the power goes out, and your battery's dead....Twist and shout!
Doh!
Yep, CUT$ is there. Good to see. A little too much Neil....
Colin,
Thanks for suggestion.
Way back when this was setup, the thinking was a truncated feed might save bandwidth since every feed reader load would be limited to 250 chars.
Not sure if that's still valid tho.
Also, figured folks would come back to see graphic, etc.
Anybody else like to see full feeds?
It's your show, Thrasher. I'm just here to preen & obsess about my love for music, old rides, and trains, and carry on ... thanks for asking though.
I call for a boycott of Fork In the Road and the reason why is because Neil is really testing my patience by continually delaying the Archives. He’s messed with me too many times now with the release date so I’m not buying any more of his albums until he does release it on Blu-ray, DVD and CD. My friends are now doing the same and we hope more will join our cause. So if you hate FITR's crappy songs or are are just pissed at Neil for not releasing the Archives when he said he was going to earlier this year then voice your protest by not giving him anymore money.
I call for a boycott on listening to whiners.
My worst Neil nightmare come true -- a whole album of these hideous car songs. This will be the first Neil Young album that I won't buy. And I can hear people saying: "But you haven't even heard it!" Well, the songs are about cars. Boring bloody cars. How good could they possibly be? Cars! The most boring subject matter on earth!
-- Glenn
My worst nightmare come true -- a comment by Glenn. This will be the first comment that I won't even read. And I can hear people saying: "But you haven't even read it!" Well, the comment is by Glenn. Boring bloody Glenn. How good could he possibly be? Glenn! The most boring name on earth! Glenn!!
Car
There's so many people out there who defend everything Neil does no matter how crappy the subject matter. And the lyrics on the new album are crappy. Archives should have come out instead.
Do we know a release date for Fork in the Road? Don't mind if it's just a guess but if it can be pre-ordered then people must have some idea and can't be long!
I certainly aint downloading it- sounds like shit!
many thanks
Sean
I think the release date is 30th March for the UK, so a little over a month.
On an unrelated topic, CSN tickets went on sale about 15 minutes ago, get 'em while they're good, I say! Reasonably priced too...
I'm going to Edinburgh Castle :-)

..Car..9 outa 10 for your retort to Glenn..very funny.
Sorry Glen but ya gotta admit, it was a good response.
Thank You "Car" - I laughed my ass off reading your post!! Glenn really iS a Twit! ALL the songs are NOT about cars- even the ones you THINK might be-JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR TITLE(!)- may NOT be about "cars" at all. Why not wait until you actually LISTEN to them before you make up your mind that they're "boring"?
And I call for a "boycott" of clueless, morons who call for boycotts and think that anyone actually gives a damn about their "patience" or what they think about ANYTHING! You're "pissed at Neil" because you have to wait a little longer to buy HIS past from him? Who the fuck are YOU to be pissed at anyone and where the hell did you get such an unrealistic sense of entitlement? Grow up, Dude... you- AND your "friends"- have DONE nothing and are owed NOTHING!
Good Luck with that "movement" of yours!
Sounds like another kind of "movement" I can think of.......
BOYCOTT TICKETS PRICES.DONT BUY EXPENSIVE NEIL TICKETS,AND NEXT TIME THEY'LL BE $ 50. KEEP PAYING IT AND SOON IT WILL BE $ 300-400 A TICKET ! AINT BUYIN FITR EITHER.
Hey TW,
is there any way of adding a link to Amazon.co.uk, then us Brits could do our bit for the site
Most of these songs are not, in fact, about cars, and of course you really should hear them before you start trashing them, but whatevz. The REAL issue is OHMYGOD where is Get Around??? My favorite of the new songs is NOT ON THE ALBUM, NEIL? WTF. Wah.
lovekaren
What? "Get Around" didn't make the cut? I thought he was gonna put "Interstate" on it, too.
Maybe he'll sneak it on somewhere... hehe
I'm just glad that Neil is still around to get around. He is 63 years of age,& had a brush with mortality. Many people of his age have retired from their work
NEIL still writes the songs, plays the music,& has 1001 other projects on the go.What a man! He's got more talent in one little finger nail than the rest of us put together.
I loved the man & my greedy hand wanted all of his back pages plus the new stuff really.I did get a little snarky about the Archives delays, but that has passed.
However,I'm just going to be happy with what we get.Who knows where the ride may take us!It's been a long strange trip!
Hey On The Beach (how long did it take you to come up with that moniker btw?), I know Glenn, and can asure you he is no twit. And what gives you the right to say that anyway? I don't see him attacking anyone here personally, or throwing names at anyone. All he does is give his opinion on Neil - but you, like so many here, can't seem to handle anyone that is prepared to suggest that Neil isn't God and some things he releases are less than stellar. For your information, Glenn is a long time Neil fan who has written articles for the NYAS's Broken Arrow magazine, and has been a part of the Neil Young trading community for the best part of 20 years, from way back in the good old tape trading days - he even ran his own Neil Young publication for a few years. He knows as much about Neil as anyone here, and probably more than most - and he's certainly earned the right to comment on the upcoming release without being branded a 'twit' by the likes of you...
Peter
Just my 2 cents.... I think boycotting new music by an arist in order to "force" him to release his archives is loony. I could care less about the Archives. Keep bringing the new stuff Neil! I'll check it out and decide if I like it after I listen to it.
New Music is better,
Bumper stickers should be issued.....
FTA peace, y'all
noanme of course should be noname....
aaargh!
Don't worry you whiners. I will buy five copies of the new record just to compensate for the boycotters. Or maybe ten. Just to be sure.
Fox
Yes, there's finaly a fork in the road ahead......and I'm simply not buying the new record nor am I gonna pay ludicrous $ for good seats.
I think you can get some cheap, good old records by Cliff Richards. And Paul Anka is doing some cheap concerts with only ten seats. Seems reasonable. I don't care about Neil or anybody, as long as it's really cheap. I'm looking only at the price and the age. The really important things.
Cheap and old is always better
I have heard the song Johnny Magic. It is available for radio stations right now. The lyrics are obviously about Jonathan Goodwin and has references to Wichita and Washington. Lyrics aren't his best work but keeps with the theme/ style of the rest of the tracks on the album. Straightforward lyrics but with a good groove. Its a nice rough live off the floor take of the song. Not sure why it hasn't showed up anywhere on the net yet as I know it is out there.
Dear Car,
I really appreciate your comments about Glen.
Sincerely,
- Train
With Neil, it's got to the point where any new song will be about, either:
1. Cars
2. Trains
3. The power of "love"
4. Nature
That's it. His points of reference have become so few that it has become monotonous. As someone said, he's 63, and at that age one's range of vision naturally narrows, but gee ... It's a sorry state of affairs. He's still a great live performer, but as a songwriter he is now a C grader.
Oops, forgot to sign it!
-- Glenn "The car-man" C.
id rather an album about cars than an album about the names glenn and peter..hahah.. what??just a joke guys..peter i dont love every neil thing either..bit i do love what he has been up to over the last 20 years..he is still doin stuff and keepin his fans on their toes..i love this last 10 years of neil..i think your being abit tough and crumpy..lighten up guys there is gold in them last few records, im a bit stunned at the constant negativity..are you english?/whinging poms maybe??..i cant afford a new kitchen tho..its all my choice.
anyway..where the fuck is GET AROUND??or could it be another title now..
Boycott? Pathetic. Totally. What pissing in the wind.
boycott this boycot that....can we start a boycott glenn,s crap post..man oh man..you talk monotonous crap ..its all one song isnt it glenn..whine whine whine,,neil use to great..neils washed up, neils new stuff shit..blah blah.your very predicatble glenn and very irritating..shut up...neil does not only write about..cars..trains..power of love..and nature..4 great subjects tho...what aload of crap u talk...go away ..i dont care if u buy fitr..peter m might but no one else here does..
No one said he was washed up. As I've stated previously, he's liable to make a great album at any time. But this car nonsense has been taken too far. I'm sure things would improve if he'd just take some time, take a step back, wait till 10 or 12 great songs are written, then go into the studio. But it's as if that, since the illness in 2005, he's rushing to get everything out, every little fragment. Less is more, Neil! From what I have heard of these new songs, they make Landing On Water sound like a masterpiece.
-- Glenn
*gasp* mediocre album. Would you have preferred he had stopped creating music when hordes of his fans rejected Time Fades Away, Tonight's The Night, Trans, Everybody's Rockin', Re-ac-tor, or Landing on Water? Some of these grew into loved masterpieces when people gave them time, most didn't (for good reason). While it's easy to see that FITR is likely to end up in the latter category, it's all part of the ride. You don't have to like it or buy it, and are welcome to post your critique on forums, but clamouring for an artist to cancel the release of an album because *you* don't approve of it is plain sad and a great example how the Internet empowers the masses with low self esteem. And yes, I'd like to see the Archives come out before FITR, but I don't have delusions of somehow being entitled to it.
As for concert seat prices - who the heck even *wants* to *sit at a rock concert? If you can't get off your rear for one concert, you're better off saving your money, and going to the gym or staying home listening to your CD's. The prices that concert organizers are asking for seats at some of these venues are indeed ridiculous, and with the looming TicketMaster/LiveNation monopoly, I'd like to see artists stand up and stop the madness - but $75 for a GA ticket to the Worcester concert was worth every penny - and I can't see anyone who saw Neil's performance at that show call him washed up, whether the Taste Police approves of the new songs or not.
Apparently I somehow truncated my post. Oh well. Just imagine there was a brilliant lead to the opinion, that's now lost forever(?)
I think some of you take the whole thing to seriously. I enjoy very much listening to the new songs. I agree they're not Down by the River or Hurricane, but I really enjoy them. I also still enjoy listening to Reactor and Landing on Water. Living With War is one of my favourites. I played it over and over again. I think we all agree in which songs are Neil's masterpieces. But I really look forward to FITR. It's funky, bluesy, groovy, rocky. I enjoy that. I don't need to analyse this in pieces. Neil's hit me with the new record. Again.
Martin
