Neil once again demonstrates so beautifully that however we as a humanity define "less fortunate" or "loss" or "handicap" will be their only barrier in life.
'I really enjoy seeing all the Bridge School interviews', I even made a donation a few weeks ago. I hope more Rusties will help such a wonderful cause!..'Those kids are Heros'! Glenn
Hi Glenn,
It's important that everyone look into their own communities, too, and reach out to the schools & centers serving children who are born with or develop later disability labels.
Even though there are laws to safegaurd a child's right to a free appropriate education, there are still so many barriers in the way.
Remember, the reason why Bridge School got started was because there wasn't any school in the area that focused specifically on developing an emerging ability that Pegi and Neil saw in Ben.
Today, there are still many kids who could benefit from a school like the Bridge in their own community, but most communities do not have financial resources to incorporate one into their school district or offer it as an alternative.
The writing on the wall for a lot of parents today is that alternative-public funded special education schools are becoming a thing of the past because they are financially draining on a school district or community.
