Randomly Blogged - Booker T., Drive By Truckers & Neil in Studio, Sugar Mountain Preview, Another Car Editorial
From ContactMusic.com:
"NEIL YOUNG is set to pay back soul man BOOKER T. JONES for backing him on his ARE YOU PASSIONATE album - by signing up to play guitar on the GREEN ONIONS hitmaker's first solo release in 20 years.
Jones and his Booker T + The MGs bandmates acted as Young's backing group on the acclaimed 2002 album, and now the rocker is returning the favour. He'll join The Drive-By Truckers, who will back Jones on his new all-instrumental album, which will hit stores early in 2009."

Lonely Planet Boy - Great Under Appreciated or Obscure Albums 5 - YEAR OF THE HORSE by Neil Young & Crazy Horse (1997) by J. Phimister:
"This is Neil at his grungiest. Scrap that, it's beyond grunge. 'Barstool Blues' is a lesson in guitar mayhem. A riff is repeated over and over for the best part of ten minutes, whilst Neil roars some warped lyrics, including the monumental line "I saw you in my nightmares/but I'll see you in my dreams", as he rips out a non-stop avalanche of distorted, saturated solos. For nearly ten minutes! Sorry, felt I had to repeat that... 'When Your Lonely Heart Breaks' couldn't be more different, yet doesn't break the vibe. A thumping bass note repeats like a Godly heartbeat, deep and loud. Young's voice is pained, and the song -a rarely heard gem- gains so much more potency ten years after it's studio release, in the vastness of a concert hall, with Young the old man gasping hoarsly into his mike. You get the feeling he's seen his fair share of broken hearts, including his own."

A sneak preview of the title track?? LOL! Go listen to Decade or any of a number of b-sides of his early '70's singles if you want a 'sneak preview' of the title track!
The back cover of Sugar Mountain Live is now visible on Amazon.
Left Track - Voice
Right Track - Guitar
... yes, it's the same version as decade but...
you should listen to the npr segment just for the spoken intro. it's classic quiet humble and innocent neil. can't wait to hear the whole thing ...

also,
NPR is streaming the whole Canterberry show a week before it's release date at 11:59pm, 11/24...
for those thrifty folks out there...you might wanna google 'wiretap' by audacity. certainly not advocating any kind of illegal recording...just making you aware of the options out there :+}
i'll certainly be purchasing a good ole fashioned CD...since I've been waiting to hear a good recording of this show for about, well, twenty years or so...
With regards to The Huffington Posts and Neil's comment regarding large cars.
While I applaud the quest for fossil fuel options, I shudder to think of folks returning to massive cars, especially for those of us residing in an urban environment. The sentimentality for oversized 'classic' American car is a mistake.
Neil needs to be made aware that large automobiles, whether they get 100 mpg or 10, add to urban congestion, and could quite literally push ex-urbia further into farming country, as demonstrated by the original interstate highway system.
Hasn't enough green space and farm land already disappeared forever to developers?
Additionally, if everyone returns to hitting the road in their own cars in place of public transportation (whenever possible) because of some new miracle fueling paradigm, we create a different mess. More cars = more parking lots.
That said, I realize the 'land whale' is symbolic of the large challenge we all face.
I would like to see the next Lincvolt project be a Chicago Transit Authority bus. Mayor Daley will happily take your call, Neil, my friend.
-Chicago
Booker T + Neil + The Drive by Truckers : fuckin amazing news, man. Just incredible.
Anyway, I still miss the Horse.
Neil call the mayor!!!!! Wouldn't that be great!!!!! No more smellee buses. Yes we can save the planet for another day, yes we can. Maybe a movie, it is getting bigger and bigger in my minds eye. Someone call China, Neil has this idea...
Willie Wisher
Why stop at buses? Combine Neil's love of trains WITH a new energy resource: Lincvolt the ancient subway system!
Chicago would be a great symbolic city experiment: home of our next president (hurrah!) and possible future site of the 2016 Olympic Games.
Think of the international exposure and the good to 'ordinary people' instead of only internet millionaires and venture capiltalists.
To quote Daniel Burnham "Make no small plans..."
"Make no small plans" Fully agree! Neil, his cronies, and all his sycophantic followers shouldn't let their arrogance stop at just thinking they can change the planet's weather patterns. Once they've tamed the sun and got temperatures down to a level they're happy with, why not start working on putting an end to earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions? Neil can do it - he's da man!!
