Editorial by Neil Young: How To Save A Major Automobile Company
An editorial by Neil Young appears in today's Huffington Post titled "How To Save A Major Automobile Company":
"Find a new ownership group. The culture must change. It is time to turn the page. In the high technology sector there are several candidates for ownership of a major car and truck manufacturer. We need forward looking people who are not restricted by the existing culture in Detroit. We need visionary people now with business sense to create automobiles that do not contribute to global warming.
It is time to change and our problems can facilitate our solutions. We can no longer afford to continue down Detroit's old road. The people have spoken. They do not want gas guzzlers (although they still like big cars and trucks). It is possible to build large long-range vehicles that are very efficient. People will buy those vehicles because they represent real change and a solution that we can live with."
The editorial has lots of nice, supportive comments as well.

Ever since the Lincvolt project went public, I've wondered if Neil & company have seen the documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car?" (available on Amazon).
The bottomline is Detroit introduced electric cars in the '90s and the initiative was killed for any number of reasons, consumer demand, oil industry, bureaucrats, etc. Perhaps consumer demand has changed in 15 yrs and will overcome these, and other, challenges.
I certainly hope so. In the meantime, thank you Neil for raising awareness.

What about the unions?
The unions are still one of the key problems with the big 3.
Why not let them buy the company and run it?
Did you read his editorial got over 200 comments on that website? That's Neil. He's putting the question out there ...
How many messengers will it take before somebody finally picks up on the message?
We won't believe the scientists, will we?
Yes, I agree that "Who Killed the Electric Car?" is a good documentary, but asking if Neil & company have seen it is kinda like asking if your neighbor who is building a baseball field in his backyard ever has seen "Field Of Dreams". :-)
As in one can learn from history, improve and mover forward, and another is a dilusional dream with a Hollywood-type happy ending?
Neil Young...once again is right! I love this man!
The fact is our world is in danger....and it is unfathomable that there are actually people out there that stand in the way of the push to do away with fossil fuels! Why? Because they stand to lose a buck! But you have to wonder... what good is a dollar if the earth becomes unable to sustain life? The facts are there and are real and we are in trouble! There should be a worldwide mandate to stop burning, and drilling oil in ten years! People worry the economy will crumble! That’s the worst that will happen but I believe from those ruins will arise a better, more eco-friendly society. Neil, once again, is on the cutting edge of a revolution and we all need to help, kick in and change! I do not want to see Neil’s silver seed prophecy come true!
Think about all those other planets that we know of in the universe...none of which are able to sustain life. We, on earth have an extremely delicate balance and us stupid, selfish humans are fucking it up! I'd love to hear any one make an argument against what I’m saying because there is none except some money grubbing, political agenda to keep Bush, his friends and terrorists rich! This is for us, our kids and theirs! It’s not about being different, or difficult or fighting for the sake of it...it’s about preserving life as we know it.
I applaud you Neil! Somebody needed to stop with his or her big mouth and start DOING something!!
theres nothing man can do to destroy the earth, she will just get rid of us and regenerate and keep spinning.we are just a blip in the time line of how old the earth is if you havent noticed.its about prolonging human life that is important, mother will have enough one day and see ya! that being said lets be as kind to her as possible!
"There should be a worldwide mandate to stop burning, and drilling oil in ten years!"
do you know how many people would suffer and die of starvation and fuel and food wars? think with your head not with your heart!
"People worry the economy will crumble! That’s the worst that will happen but I believe from those ruins will arise a better, more eco-friendly society."
at what cost? more suffering and death?right now oil is the life blood of the world economy, just the fact that you say 10 years tells me that you arent very in formed.we need to seek out energy that is clean while still using what we have..go to T boone pickens site and learn
Everybody knows everything...especially these guys above. It doesnt matter ....drill...drill...drill...burn burn...burn...burn....fuck it all. Humans are much more important than anything else on earth right? So screw the Earth...its all gonna end in 2012 anyway right? Thats way less then then 10 years. 12/21/2012 to be exact shitheads...get ready.
"the moral of this story
Is try not to get too old
The more time you spend on earth
The more you see unfold"
I am hopeful that humans aren't the dumbest species on the planet and realize it is our love of science, technologies, and innovations that hold the key to our own future. Fortunately, I think Neil thinks so, too.
solar-world; a german solar-energy company makes an offer to buy opel, a german car manufacturer owned buy general motors
