Album Review of "Living with War"

From Music Box's Living with War album review:
"Where T Bone Burnett, on his recently issued set The True False Identity, took a more cerebral approach to socio-political commentary by burying his poetic ruminations within a series of arty textures, Young delivers his thoughts on Living with War in a decidedly more straightforward fashion. Significantly upping the ante, he ditched the lyrical complexities of his theater piece Greendale and replaced them with a ferociously direct indictment of the Republican leadership’s failed policies. "Won’t need no shadow man/Runnin’ the government/Won’t need no stinkin’ war," he sings with contempt on the opening track After the Garden. Later, on the aptly titled Let’s Impeach the President, he lambastes George W. Bush and then intersperses soundbites from America’s Commander-in-Chief with the chanted words "flip" and "flop" in a manner that would make Daily Show host Jon Stewart proud. In fact, by the time that the album has concluded, Young angrily has taken Bush to task not just over the war in Iraq, but also for his fiscal irresponsibility, his post-9/11 blundering, his scandalous handling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster, his various infringements upon civil liberties, and the environmental devastation that he has wrought to the benefit of massive, global corporations."

From Neal Boortz:

ZARQAWI DEAD, DEMOCRATS DEPRESSED

Make no mistake: Democrats are depressed. They're down in the dumps because they have been counting on the war in Iraq to go badly so that they can use that to pick up enough seats in this fall's election to take back control of the House. With Zarqawi getting clipped yesterday, this throws a wrench in things. What is going to happen to their aspirations if this marks a turning point in Iraq and we defeat the insurgency? Worse than that .. what happens if Bush gets the opportunity to display the bloated and bloodied face of that slime Osama bin Laden between now and the election? You can bet the ranch that in that event there will be Democrats who will swear that it was all staged ... that Bush knew where Osama was all along, and just waited until the most opportune time to make his move.

Well ... at least the Democrats have that "culture of corruption" thing to run on. But wait! ... there's $90,000 in William Jefferson's freezer that says that won't work. Plus .. the Congressional Black Caucus is defending him? Corruption? Clean the green fuzz out of your own refrigerator first. Gas prices? People are actually starting to realize that there are market forces at work here that Bush has, and should have no control over. No, if the Bush Administration rights the ship in Iraq, the Democrats are done...and they know it.

So they responded accordingly yesterday. Nancy Pelosi, House Minority Leader and Speaker-in-waiting, said yesterday Zarqawi's death changes nothing. In fact, she responded with a quote that could have come right off an Islamic hate website: "Several hours after Zarqawi's death, 19 Iraqis were killed and 40 were wounded in a roadside bombing in Baghdad." Pelosi, along with most of her kook leftist buddies, are banking on American defeat in Iraq.

Some Democrats are so upset that Bush is getting some positive help from al-Zarqawi's death that they're actually claiming that the whole thing was nothing but a stunt. Congressman Pete Stark from California said that Bush had al-Zarqawi killed to cover for the deaths of civilians in Iraq and to boost his poll numbers. I guess we could laugh at Stark, if he wasn't so completely pathetic. If al-Zarqawi remains free Bush takes the heat for not being able to find him. If al-Zarqawi is killed, Bush takes the heat for trying to divert attention from his sagging poll numbers. This just goes to show the depths to which Democrats and the left will sink to feed their hatred of George Bush .. hatred fueled by the election of 2000.

And as for whether or not Zarqawi was an important hit....absolutely he was. This is the guy who ran Al-Qaeda's operations in Iraq. Yet her are Democrats...downplaying it as symbolic. They call rubbing out Zarqawi symbolism, yet whine about how Osama Bin Laden hasn't been caught. This despite the fact that Osama is sitting in a cave somewhere in Pakistan doing absolutely nothing. Which one is it, fellas? Make up your minds already.

Anymore good news from Iraq, and Democrats may get really desperate. Maybe they'll strap on an AK-47 and join the insurgency.

you don't get it do you... we shouldn't have been there in the first place -- any win is a pyrrhic victory in that in the end we will trade an ultimately corrupt and sectarian-based "democratic" regime (in the mold of Mubarak -- or Mugabe?) for that old rascal Saddam. We are there on false pretenses -- we were lied to -- we are spied on -- and for this we must be proud flag waving, chest thumping, shaved head zeolots? I'm glad that Zarqawi is no more -- the beast we created is dead -- let's hope he isn't a 8-headed hydra.

"False Pretenses" I like that one. The whole world runs on false pretenses, but you only point out Americas.

tell me this one Mr. Expert, when AND where do "false pretenses" begin-hmmmm?

The American Revolution? How about Columbus? "Palestine"? Is that one false?

Why is it, you pick and choose your crappy terms when it fits your agenda?

AN AGENDA WHICH (USING YOUR OPINION) WAS BUILT ON FALSE PRETENSES SINCE WE "STOLE" THIS LAND FROM INDIANS!

So, in closing, anything you OR NEil Young says, using their freedom of speech, does not count because it was built on"False Pretenses". You go back and think about that one a while Mr. Smart guy!

An AMAZing Coincidence
"Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Al Qaeda in Iraq leader who led a brutal insurgency that included [suicide] bombings, kidnappings and beheadings, was killed in an airstrike on a building north of Baghdad, U.S. and Iraqi officials announced Thursday," reports Fox News:

Officials said the terror leader's identity was confirmed by fingerprints, facial recognition and known scars. . . .

Loud applause broke out at a press conference in Baghdad as Al-Maliki, flanked by U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad and U.S. Gen. George Casey, the top commander in Iraq, announced that "Zarqawi was terminated." . . .

In a statement posted on the Web, Al Qaeda in Iraq confirmed the death of Zarqawi and vowed to continue its "holy war."

"We want to give you the joyous news of the martyrdom of the mujahed sheik Abu Musab al-Zarqawi," said the statement, signed by "Abu Abdel-Rahman al-Iraqi," identified as the deputy "emir" or leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq.

Well, we hate to be a wet blanket, but something about this story doesn't smell right. After all, Iraq has nothing to do with al Qaeda, which in turn has nothing to do with Iraq--and if you don't believe us, ask these experts:

"The Iraqis have nothing to do with terrorism, Iraq has no contacts with al-Qaeda or others who were behind the events on 11 September."--Iraqi "legislator" Mohammad Muthafar al-Adhami, quoted by the BBC, Sept. 10, 2002

"It doesn't have anything to do with the war on terrorism. Not only that, I fear it will be a distraction from the war on terror. If you look at al Qaeda, al Qaeda is building up right now in Pakistan. So in fact, if we wanted to have an invasion that was a follow-up to the war on terror, we would invade Pakistan."--Cynthia Tucker, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Feb. 6, 2003

"War against Iraq may prove to be a fatal distraction from the war on terror. The danger to Americans today is from al Qaeda. . . . We need to keep the pressure on al Qaeda. . . . We need to focus the resources of our nation on the war on terror and dismantle the al Qaeda network before it can mount another catastrophic attack on the United States."--Sen. Robert Byrd (D., W.Va.), March 11, 2003

"What I said was, you know, invading Iraq or bombing Iraq after we're attacked by somebody else, it's akin to, what if Franklin Roosevelt after Pearl Harbor instead of going to war with Japan said, 'Let's invade Mexico.' It's very analogous."--Clinton terrorism adviser Richard Clarke, March 21, 2004

"We also have to be smart, Jim. And smart means not diverting your attention from the real war on terror in Afghanistan against Osama bin Laden and taking if off to Iraq. . . . Iraq is not even the center of the focus of the war on terror."--Sen. John Kerry (D., Mass.)*, Sept. 30, 2004

"[Iraq] had nothing to do with Osama bin Laden, it had nothing to do with al Qaeda."--Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D., W.Va.), June 28, 2005

"But I am talking about the war with Iraq, not the war on terror."--Matt Lauer, NBC News, June 6, 2006
When this many experts agree on something, you know it has to be true. So what in the world was Abu Musab al-Zarqawi doing in Iraq? We don't know, but we're sure it was just a coincidence. Maybe he was on vacation. Maybe he got lost and, being a man, he refused to stop and ask for directions. Maybe he wasn't alive to begin with.

Anon,
Maybe you should strap on an AK 47 and head over to Iraq if think things are going so well. My guess is since you are so cowardly that you post anonymously, you wouldn't have the courage to back your bellicose words. You speak of winning and losing as if these are discreet concepts. What is a win, and what is a loss anyway when thousands of innocent lives have been lost and a country is now at war with itself.

When you depose a minority ethnic group from power that had all the wealth and controlled the military, you are in for civil war, or at least guerilla war liek urban resistance. Pelosi is pointing out that soundbites and symbols are one thing, but when 50-100 people are dying every day from sectarian violence that is indictaive of a potential civil war beteeen sects, you have major problems still and all is not so bright.

Your quotes remind me of a former troll on this board who was sucessfully shamed away. He too would posts quotes that Dems made years ago and try to paint them in a false light using current events.

Zarqawi was nobody until Colin Powell made him someone by falsely using him as a link bewteen Iraq and Al Qaeda to justify this bogus war. The US made that guy, gave him a purpose and a name in Al Qaeda, and then eliminated him, only long after the terrorism he inspired has gained a life of its own and a foothold in Iraq.

2) Why do you think eliminating Zarqawi will change the course of events in Iraq?

3) 9/11 scared the shit out of everybody, but why was it you who wet your pants?

4) Who was at the wheel on 9/11?

And we all know there was no cooperative relationship between Al Qaeda and Iraq before the war. In fact we all know that the Bush administration used information it knew was not credible to suggest there was such a link in the run up to the war when the Bush administration was busy lying to the public to justify their war.

You rock lazerlou! we love you here and wish CBOC would stop posting his insane rants.

Oh, why thanks anon. You are too kind! It is true, CBOC is a pathetic loser who advances insane lies while trolling on a Neil Young fan site, where nobody wants him. He needs professional mental health care, and your pity.

Not only did the 9/11 commission establish there was no collaerbative link wetween Al Qeda and Iraq, it turns out the White House knew the source of their info was a liar but still used his statements to make a case for going to war:

By Dana Priest
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, August 1, 2004; Page A20

An al Qaeda commander who initially told interrogators that Iraq had provided chemical and biological weapons training to the terrorist organization later told CIA officers his statement was not true, according to intelligence officials.

Ibn al-Shaykh al-Libi, a Libyan captured in Pakistan on Nov. 11, 2001, later "changed his story, and we're still in the process of trying to determine what's right and what's not right" from his information, a senior U.S. intelligence official said yesterday. "He told us one thing at one time and another at another time."

Al-Libi's statement formed the basis for the Bush administration's prewar claim that Osama bin Laden collaborated with Iraq, according to several U.S. officials.

In an October 2002 speech in Cincinnati, for example, President Bush said: "We've learned that Iraq has trained al Qaeda members in bomb-making and poisons and gases." Other senior administration officials, including Secretary of State Colin L. Powell in a speech to the United Nations, made similar assertions. Al-Libi's statements were the foundation of all of them.

His about-face has not been made public by the CIA or the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, which produced a critical investigation of the intelligence community's prewar information on Iraq. The committee describes the case in pages of its report that the CIA refused to declassify.

Al-Libi was once in bin Laden's inner circle and a senior operative who ran the Khaldan paramilitary camp in Afghanistan. He was captured in the fall of 2001 by Pakistani forces and turned over to the CIA in January 2002, although CIA interrogators had access to him before that, according to intelligence and U.S. law enforcement sources.

His capture was notable because it sparked the first debates within the U.S. government over how rough CIA officers could be in questioning al Qaeda members after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. That debate, involving the FBI and the Justice Department, led to the formulation of a policy under which CIA officers were given permission to use "enhanced interrogation methods" for some al Qaeda detainees.

Under questioning, al-Libi provided the CIA with intelligence about an alleged plot to blow up the U.S. Embassy in Yemen with a truck bomb and pointed officials in the direction of Abu Zubaida, a top al Qaeda leader known to have been involved in the Sept. 11 plot.

U.S. officials yesterday declined to say whether al-Libi's initial statement was made while he was being subjected to harsher interrogation measures. Nor would they say what may have prompted him to change his story.

The senior intelligence official cautioned that al-Libi's later contention that Iraq provided no help or training to al Qaeda could not be verified and that the CIA did not know whether he was telling the truth.

Al-Libi's conflicting statements and their ramification on the administration's prewar assertions were reported last month by The Washington Post, but without using his name. On July 5, Newsweek published a fuller version of the story, including his name, as did the New York Times in its Saturday edition.

Iraq may well have had nothing to do with Al Qaeda but it does now because the insurgents have come in from outside to seek out the perceived enemy. There needs to be a full enquiry as to the legitimacy of this war. But what is done is done and we need to do whatever is necessary to stabilise the region and then get the f---- out of there. I supported the war initially as I distrusted the Iraqi regime and considered them a genuine threat. I felt seriously let down when no major weapons were found. It may well be that Iraq was building up to future attacks but at the time of invasion they were not a credible threat. Any loss of life is highly regrettable and the deaths and maiming of thousands of innocent Iraqi men, women and children is extremely disturbing. The armed forces are doing the best that they can in an extremely hazardous environment. They are highly trained fighters and only follow the orders that they are given. They should receive our full support and we wish them a safe and speedy return to their families. Their combatants are Islamic militants who care little for their own lives let alone anyone else’s life. Would Allah really approve of their actions? I don’t think so.

Now that things have gotten rough in Iraq and it's tough sledding, a bunch of Democrats have come out and ripped the president over the war now for several years. But to call it his war...I don't think so. For a little background, let's take a look at some of the Democratic senators that voted in favor of Joint Resolution 114, the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002. They include:

Harry Reid of Nevada, Democrat
Joe Biden of Delaware, Democrat
Max Cleland of Georgia, Democrat (included because he would like everyone to forget)
John Edwards of North Carolina, Democrat
John Kerry of Massachusetts, Democrat
Chuck Schumer of New York, Democrat
Hillary Clinton of New York, Democrat

Those are just a few. So even though the Bush-bashing media would like to sweep it under the rug...never forget...these exact Senators saw the exact same intelligence George W. Bush did and voted to authorize the war. They can change their mind, try and spin their vote...whatever...but it's their war too.

Anon,

"these exact Senators saw the exact same intelligence George W. Bush did and voted to authorize the war."

Either you don't read the paper or you are just some kind of profound idiot or a liar.

To argue that the senators who voted for the war powers saw the same intelligence as the White House is to expose your ignorance or your evil. Take your pick.

That is patently false and the whole world knows it. There was systematic cherry picking of intelligence leading up to the war that is well documented. In certain cases it has been shown the white house had actual knowledge the intelligence it was pushing on Congress and the public was false or came from uncre4dible sources.

How can you not?

Go back to a blog that welcomes fearful ignorant repugs who continue in this late stage, after the shame of the Bush administration has been exposed time and time again, to wear blinders.

Noone is diputing the intelligence was WRONG, you dim wit. It is painfully obvious to all it was WRONG.

The issue is when the Bush administration knew it was WRONG, and how after they knew it was WRONG, they still disseminated the WRONG intelligence to Congress and the public to bolster support for the war.

There are any number of examples of this, the least of which is the Nukes, which has been well documented over and over again. When Bush muttered those famous words, his administration knew the reports of Iraq trying to by Yellow cake were not credible.

Get your head out of your ass and get yourself out of denial. Pick up the paper and start educating yourself you hick. If you know something is WRONG, but you still lead people to believe it is RIGHT, you are a LIAR.

Now go away and stop posting on this blog. You are a disgusting, vile human being who isn't worth the air you breathe

Chili,

I read the article. While the argument that anyone who opposes the war is a terrorist is a great one, that is not even what that document says. They are talking about Iraqis. But I know you can't read so I won't hold it against you and your tiny little brain.

The document also has nothing to do with the fact that the Bush administration lied about the ties between Iraq and Zarqawi before the war. Remeber, that is what we were talking about dimwit. They gave information to the public and congress that they knew was not true. They did this over and over again. You still have nothing to say for yourself to respond to the numerous examples of the Bush administration lying and misleading the public and Congress into war. Nothing. Zero. You have lost this argumant and lost it badly. You have nothing to say.

The funny thing about that document is how in favor Qaeda is of perpetuating conflict. Indeed Bush's war-mongering is playing right into the hands of the terrorists. They want conflict. They want the world polarized. They love the fact that Bush is just like the terrorists. He is a fundamentalist, violent war mongering fearful man who tries to control people through fear. That is what I read in that document. Get the US into a war with Iran to further polarize the situation.

See chili, by supporting the ongoing occupation you are supporting the terrorists. Without someone to fight, they would have no purpose. YOU ARE A TERRORIST CHILI! WHY DO YOU HATE THE USA? Go fight in Iraq, it is what they want, and the go fight in Iran, they want that even more. They just want the USA to keep fighting or else they wither away.

Chili, it is sad how you support the terrorist by wanting to continue with the war or even go into Iran.

You should be ashamed of yourself for supporting the terrorists' cause. I'll report you to the CIA right away,

Toranto is right on LOOSER. read this one-I mean really, you don't believe Bill Clinton when he Blames Bush for a hurricane do ya? I suppose Neil Does too????

Rain Man
Yesterday we noted that Bill Clinton was blaming "Republican environmental policies" for Tropical Storm Alberto. Oh, did we say "blame"? Maybe we should have said "credit." The Associated Press reports from Charleston, S.C.:

Instead of a disaster, Alberto's rainfall may turn out to be a blessing for Florida's efforts to battle wildfires and for farmers in Georgia who were worried about drought.

"It's definitely a million-dollar rain," said Joe McManus, a marketing specialist with the Georgia Farm Bureau in Macon. "It could save some cotton and peanut fields."

Farmer Orson Adams, 65, was counting on the rain to help germinate the cotton seeds he planted last month in Douglas, Ga.

"What we've gotten has been slow and it's going into the soil," Adams said. "We've got a chance now to survive."

Officials said the storm also gave them real-world practice on the lessons learned from the slow response to some of last year's storms. Hurricane specialists said they ran into a few computer glitches but nothing that couldn't be fixed before the next storm.

If Republicans have the power to control the weather, it's good to know they're putting it to benevolent use.

1. Bush used intellegence from the CIA/FBI-he did not gather it himself.

Duh. And the CIA discredited the reports of Iraq trying to buy nukes, and the Bush administration was aware of this before Bush lied directly to the public in his state of the Union speech. Further, the Bush administration knew that the source that said Iraq and Qaeda had menaingful contacts was false. Bush and Cheney his that from the public and repeatedly asserted a tie bewteen Iraq and Al Qaeda, even going so far as to suggest Iraq had some kind fo role in 9/11. Indeed the vast majority of enlisted men think Iraq was involved in 9/11.

So, Chili, just becasue the CIA gave the bush administration the intelligence has nothing to do with how it was used. In fact, the CIA objected to Bush using the Iraq nuke info in his SOTU becasue they knew it was false:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/07/11/eveningnews/main562741.shtml

[CIA officials warned members of the President’s National Security Council staff the intelligence was not good enough to make the flat statement Iraq tried to buy uranium from Africa.

The White House officials responded that a paper issued by the British government contained the unequivocal assertion: “Iraq has ... sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.” As long as the statement was attributed to British Intelligence, the White House officials argued, it would be factually accurate. The CIA officials dropped their objections and that’s how it was delivered.]

2. the CIA/FBI are/were basically the same set up as Clinton Left it.

This is neither here nor there. This has nothingto do with the CIA or the fact that they made mistakes. It has to do with how the Bush administration lied to the public on repeated occasions after they knew the intelligence they had was wrong. Sorry Chili, #2, is as useless to your argument as you are to the world.

3. The Demoncrats ALL had the same data he had (those on the intellegance committee).

FALSE AGAIN! (You are starting to look really stupid Chili. Actually, what am I talking about? you always look stupid)

4. HE DID NOT CHERRY PICK YOU A-HOLE, do you really beleive htat? are you saying all of a sudden, he KNEW there was no WMD's and kept it a secret to goto war? who told him all this stuff? where was this big break through, and don't start spewing Valerie plame you MO-RON!

So funny.

FALSE:

http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/1121/dailyUpdate.html

[Current and former intelligence officials in the CIA, the FBI, and the energy department complained that President Bush's case against Iraq was largely false: “Basically, cooked information is working its way into high-level pronouncements,” said Vincent Cannistraro, the former head of counter-intelligence at the CIA]

[CIA analysts continued to complain to reporters that the Bush Administration was distorting intelligence reports on Iraq to bolster its war policy; analysts were particularly embarrassed when President Bush publicly claimed that Iraq tried to buy uranium from Niger.]

5. Foriegn inteelegance ALL said the same damn thing WMD's

Disputable at beast with respect to WMDs, but not the Iraq Qaeda connection and not about yellow cake.

http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/1121/dailyUpdate.html

6. and this is the biggie-SADDAM himself thought he had WMD's -!!!!

This has nothing to do with what Bush did and didn't know when his lied and misrepresented to people.

"2). Sadam was funneling money to Bin Laden ... WMDS ... large numbers of trucks ... heading east ... Syria ... I swear, they were there ... THEY WERE THEEEEEERE!"

Seal the borders and bring the troops home and let's start fueling our own economy for a change. I vote for isolationalism. Rebuild our highways, raise the tariffs, send the illegals packing and put a liberatarian in office.
Bush and Clinton are still part of the established political fiasco this country has become staking red vs. blue and both of you MoRons are succumbing to it. Fight each other and let our country be stolen away......IDIOTS!
Bring back Ross Perot!

Chili, I was born and raised in Chicago, in the bluest county in all of America, Cook.

Chili you are ridiculous. You say I don't respond to you (about what country I was born in for God's sake), but when I give you concrete examples of the Bush administration knowing one thing yet saying another, you bring up Dan Rather and those documents about Bush's shameful military experience.

You sir are a hypocrite through and through, in the truest sense of the word.

And T.Ogle, you are fucking cracking smoking coward becasue you are just another one of Chili's handle (funny how you've only been on blogger since April).

You/Chili comes into a thread about a LWW review and posts nonsense anonymously, like the intellectual coward he/you are, about Dems being in shambles due to the killing of Zarqawi and how the Iraq war is this big success now.

I'm just defending Neil Young, his fantastic album and the sanctity of this board, and engaging uneducated angry idiots with the only type of discourse to which idiots like you and Chili respond on my free time at work.

You are a pathetic uneducated fool with blinders on my friend, so get teh fuck off a Neil Young fan site if you are going to prove yoursef a total fool and say idiotic things like Clinton is to blame for 9/11.

The blood of thousands of innocent people is on your/Chili's hands, and I do hope there is a hell so you can both rot in it, you violent, bellicose fools.

Why would you question my being born and raised in Chicago?

Now please tell me your level of education, and be honest.

Again, to blame Clinton for 9/11 is retarded, retarded right wingnut books asise. How big a problem is terrorism? Not nearly as big a problem as the irrational fear it has caused. I'd feel a lot safer if we spent $500 Billion a year on combatting Heart disease car accidents and cancer.

And that is granting Iraq has something to do with terrorism and 9/11 which it did not 9until we invaded, that is).

Did we go off invading Scottland after Tim Mcveigh blew up the Fed buiding in OK City? Did we create a bogus war motivated by ecomonic interests after that? Did we spend over $400 billion on defense and anoterh $100 Billion on thwarting domestic terrorists?

You, T.Ogle are exactly what "nothing to fear but fear itself" is all about.

I find it shocking you could call yourself a eil young fan and have bellicose pro-violence views. You are a confused old man if indeed you are notthe same idiot as Chili.

Go have a debate and post nonsense from right wing nuts elsewhere. While not all Neil fans would agree with my tactics and rhetoric, I promise you all Neil fans on this web site want you idiots gone.

But fee free to stay around. You idiots do amuse me. I'm aslos sorry T.ogle that you don't have half a brain and have a well-paying job with much flexibility like I do. I'm sorry for your poor genes and poor thinking. But as you will be first to admit, this is the marketplace, and those of us with something to contribute are accordingly rewarded. Those of us without something to contribute go to church and vote for Bush and live their lives in fear of "others."

I pity you old man.
So how bout it Chili? You get past the 10th grade or not?

Then of course you come out (miraculously again, imagine that! er... "I just got on the Internet")

I think the problem here is that there's not much listening going on on either side. I feel that the importance of Neil's new album is being undermined by lots of bickering, insults and aggression. It's a shame, because I doubt this is what the big man had in mind when he talked about 'discussion'. I have my views on Bush and the war but, given the language and abuse coming from some people here, I'm loath to voice them. Having said that, I find Cold Bowl of Chili's comments on communism bemusing. You seem to acquaint communists with terrorists, and consider them to be a real threat to global security. I know there was this whole "communist threat" in the 70s that never really materialised, but surely that's in the past? There is a communist party in most European countries. In places like Spain, France and Italy, they garner up to 5% of the vote (not much, but it does make them the 4th or 5th party in France). If they were really such a threat, akin to terrorists, why would these countries tolerate their presence? I think you need to read some communist writings, Chili, you might learn something. It's an outdated concept today, but was actually built on interesting and decent principles. Just a suggestion. The more you over-simplify things, the less credible you will sound.

Chili - OK. You do realise however that America LOST the Vietnam War, right? The US troops were forced to evacuate and abandon South Vietnam. Supposedly, that war was fought to prevent the "dangers" of communism reaching neighbouring countries (which it didn't, except Laos), and the US. Yet despite that defeat, the US remains bereft of communism. So, doesn't it seem that the threat of communism is less real than you, and many others, still surmise. I have spent many years in countries with communist parties. And no point could they ever be equated with terrorists or considered to pose a threat to the US.

Socialism! Caring about the elderly and social security is socailism! Medicaid! Giving the poor remsdial health care is Socialism!!! Even should a duely elected legislature actually implement these programs!

Hey dipshit, I don't care how old you are, you are still a profound idiot. Believe it or not, democracy and socialism are hardly mutually exclusive political forms.

After that my friend, you don't have a lot of social programs to cite. you have a $450 Billion per year Penatagon Budget. You have the Prescription Drug "benefit," which is little more than a handout of tax dollars to big Pharam.

And lets not forget another $100 Billion or more for the war.

Well put, Lazerlou (although you don't need to resort to insult). I find it hilarious that these people get all wound up at the idea their tax dollars should go to helping the poor and needy get access to health care, or to supporting the elderly populations, or to educating future generations, but they don't mind when the VAST majority of the aforementioned tax dollars is used to kill, main and injure on the other side of the globe. Hundreds of billions of dollars go every year to WAR, yet it's Medicaid that's wasting money? It would be laughable if it weren't so tragic. We saw during Hurricane Katrina exactly what happens when a governement forgets about it's SOCIAL responsibilities and only concentrates on WAR. Socialism isn't a dirty word, it should not be acquainted with communism. Socialism is the essence of democracy, it means a form of government that looks out for EVERYONE. It's a system that ensures no-one is left behind or cast aside.

America could adopt an isolationism policy. I hope it doesn’t. The United States has a positive role to play in world affairs. It can be a force for good. Democracy is a great thing and should be promoted throughout the world. People are right to question the Iraq war. There is a distinct suspicion that there is something suspect going on. A few convincing answers need to be given before I rest easy. There is just a possibility that there are ulterior means at work here. Don’t ask me what they are. It just seems a bit dodgy to me.

Democracy is good, but it's also bloody to install and people people die trying. It also doesn't take root with force, but must come from within to take hold or we will see and then we will spin. Someone mentioned Vietnam and still today, people on the right like Child Bowel and T. Ugly will say we could have one if the liberals had supported our troops. And we turned our backs on the South Vietnamese....the parallels are scary really. Stop communism, stop terrorism......fundamentalism all of the ISM's. Cold Bowl of Chili said... I AM TRULY A LIBERAL DEMOCRAT FROM THE SOUTH AND THESE ARE SOME QUOTES FROM MY HEROES THEIR THE BEST (GET IT LASER? )

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998.

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998.

"Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face."
Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998.

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."
Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others Oct. 9, 1998.

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998.

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999.

"There is no doubt that . Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies."
Letter to President Bush, Signed by Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL,) and others, Dec, 5, 2001.

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them."
Sen. Carl Levin (d, MI), Sept. 19, 2002.

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002.

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002.

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seing and developing weapons of mass destruction."
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002.

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."
Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002.

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force — if necessary — to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002.

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years . We also should remember we have alway s underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."
Sen. Jay Rockerfeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002,

"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do."
Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002.

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction. "[W]ithout question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. And now he has continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real ...
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003.

I am a liberal and I loved Bill Clinton. I will vote for Hillary in '08.

Well they could have revealed the truth. Actually no, it couldnt have, as the truth was the Bush administration was going to go to war one way or the other and lied to the American public after it found out that Saddam didn't have WMD and didn't try to by Uranium.

Chili, whilst I hve tried to maintain a civil tone on this page, I do note that, as has been noticed by other posters, you do tend to avoid replying to certain comments directly addressed to you. Instead you seem to automatically look to provoke people. You seem to see the world in a vary bi-polar manner: communists/terrorists/democrats/liberals on one side, Republicans/patriots/freedom fighters on the other. Yet when I attempted to shed a little light on what both socialism and communism actually are, you strategically refrained from replying and went back to the provocation and the bi-polarisation. Let it be known that you are perfectly entitled to disagree with any opinions voiced here, but that by ignoring people when it suits you will lead you to be ridiculed, especially if you maintain such a belligerent stance.

Chili, your ignorance about economics is the first place I'd start to educate yourself. Do you think you make money in a vacuum? Do you not understand how monetary economics works? How the supply of money, the labor and consumption of others and the tax system all are significant factors in how many dollars you or I make, and how much each of those dollars is worth?

Your ignorance, thinking you are entitled to your money in a vacuum and have no reposnisbility to recognize your dependence on every other person in the economy, including those that have partcicpated and can no longer, and those who cannot yet participate, is severe.

Chili, as far as I know, you don't know a thing about me, so there's no need to get abusive. Just because I state the REALITY that the US lost the Viernam War, doesn't mean I'm a foreigner. It just means I realise that the 'Great Communist Threat' from Vietnam was practically inexistant, and that the North Vietnamese never could have posed a clear threat to the USA. You also don't know a thing about socialism, the way you go on about it. The point of socialism is to set up a form of government that allows those unfavored by society (the poor, the handicapped, minorities) are treated equally and given the same opportunities to succeed and improve themselves as those born into wealth and security. It has nothing to do with charity, which is an initiative carried out by INDIVIDUALS. Like I say, read some of the stuff written by Marx or Engels, you'll learn a bit about communism. Read some stuff by socialist writers or politicians, you might learn something about socialism (which is far from separate from capitalism). Like how it is a separate doctrine to communism, and that neither have anything to do with terrorism. I believe in freedom of speech and your right to exert it. But I feel you need to know a subject before getting heavy-handed about it, and stop making all these amalgamations and half-truths. The fact is, this isn't a competition. The US is a great country. Why you feel the need to ensure people call it The Greatest, without any criticism, is beyond me. No country is beyond criticism, and international affairs area lot more complex than that. It's not the Olympics, there won't be any medals. The more we discuss what's wrong, the better this country, and the world, will be. Surely that's what anyone would want?

Chili, your ignorance is astounding. Marx was Jewish himself. Oh, and I'm no multiculturalist, and either was Marx. You are confused. We all can agree Marx was wrong about a lot of things. He also had some of the most profound philisophical insights into what it means to live a truly human life. Anyone who believs in such a thing as a truly human life is no multiculturalist, nor am I. I'm no fan of terrroirts or vilence, yet you seem in your sad deperation to comclude that becasue we disagree with what our administration has done, we are somhow on the side of terrorists.

Chili - you are a pathetic excuse for a human being. The way you shoot yourself in the foot (all those guns, you see) is most amusing. You see, if you actually took time out to discuss matters in a civil and intelligent manner rather than this belligerence you automatically resort to, maybe you wouldn't make such an ass of yourself. See, I'm no communist. I just feel that you ought to know something about the principles of communism before "commenting" on them. If you knew ANYTHING about communism, you wouldn't be calling everyone a "commie" left, right and center. Second, I'm not a Democrat, another of your stupid simplifications. Third, to accuse Marx of being anti-semitic when he was jewish basically floored your entire argument. The fact is that I don't agree with everything Marx or Engels wrote. And, living in darker times, I've no doubt they had some typically narrow-minded views (not that this has much to do with communism; and even Freud called homosexuality a "perversion"). The problem is you live in the 21st century. Yet you've just assimilated every muslim on the face of the earth with terrorist, calling Islam as a whole a sub-culture. Kind of the equivalent of calling all christians loonies because of what mormons do and preach. So now muslims living in Tunisia, Morocco and even the US are all terrorists? You're a disgusting fascist prick, I'm afraid. You dare preach about racism or state brutality. The US is one of only 4 countries that executes minors (that's people under the age of 18, in other words CHILDREN). That's the US, Somalia, Nigeria and Iran. great company to be in! The US is one of the only countries to execute MENTALLY HANDICAPPED people. Then you point your finger at ISLAM, using such a gross amalgamation? Don't forget that one of the countries where public beheadings are most frequent and where women are most oppressed is a major ally of the US - I'm talking about Saudi Arabia. And, wow, you think the US is the greatest country ever, big surprise. Hell, you may be right. But do you honestly think that any country doing business with the evil Saudi regime, or that kills underage and mentally handicapped people, or that has as more guns than people, is flawless? If you do, then you're just another symptom of a cultural sickness, and as Neighbor's Wife suggests, you're just not worth talking to. I hoped maybe we could discuss these matters civilly, as Neil suggests, and that I could perhaps make you see the level of hatred contained in your words, but it looks like I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Eugene Debs, who died back in 1926, when I was only 4, ran 5 times as the Socialist Party candidate for president, winning 900,000 votes, 6 percent of the popular vote, in 1912, if you can imagine such a ballot. He had this to say while campaigning:

As long as there is a lower class, I am in it.

As long as there is a criminal element, I’m of it.

As long as there is a soul in prison, I am not free.

Doesn’t anything socialistic make you want to throw up? Like great public schools or health insurance for all?

How about Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes?

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God. …

And so on.

Not exactly planks in a Republican platform. Not exactly Donald Rumsfeld or Dick Cheney stuff.

For some reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes. But, often with tears in their eyes, they demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. And of course that’s Moses, not Jesus. I haven’t heard one of them demand that the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, be posted anywhere.

“Blessed are the merciful” in a courtroom?

“Blessed are the peacemakers” in the Pentagon? Give me a break!

There is a tragic flaw in our precious Constitution, and I don’t know what can be done to fix it. This is it: Only nut cases want to be president.

But, when you stop to think about it, only a nut case would want to be a human being, if he or she had a choice. Such treacherous, untrustworthy, lying and greedy animals we are!

The Liberals strike again and your (get it) all communist symapthizers and socialist wacko's. Kurt Vonnegut is a senile old fool and couldn't make sense if he wrote with a crayon and coin purse. EE Cummings is a nit-wit that wrote gibberish and called it poetry, however, I do like this one where he must have had a real man like ole Chili here in mind.
A true American Man!
the boys i mean are not refined
they go with girls who buck and bite
they do not give a fuck for luck
they hump them thirteen times a night

one hangs a hat upon her tit
one carves a cross on her behind
they do not give a shit for wit
the boys i mean are not refined

they come with girls who bite and buck
who cannot read and cannot write
who laugh like they would fall apart
and masturbate with dynamite

the boys i mean are not refined
they cannot chat of that and this
they do not give a fart for art
they kill like you would take a piss

they do whatever's in their pants

Looks like there are TWO Cold Bowls of Chili out there, and one is obviously a joke. That was quite hilarious! See, real Chili, this is the image you project of yourself and of the America you represent. As this fake Chili's song suggests, you come across as some brainwashed piece of white trash, hailing straight from Deliverance. Something to ponder, thought I fear you may be incapable of the necessary thought process....

Wow, Chili - soooooo convincing. I mean, a handful of disused weapons, most of which pre-dated the Gulf War. Surely you're not claiming these 15-year-old gas reserves were capable of being launched on the US and Europe in 45 minutes? Doesn't exactlt seem likely, does it? Yet that's what Bush and Blair claimed in 2003 - Iraq has WMDs (note they claimed it was nukes, not sarin gas) that could be launched on Western civilisation in 45 minutes. Strange the Iraqis then decided not to use them when their country was invaded, isn't it? Fact is, there are a lot of countries out there with powerful weapons, the question is to defend ourselves against those that are able and intend to attack us. There has yet to be conclusive proof that Iraq intented, or had the capacity, to attack the US or any other country. In fact, since the end of the Second World War, the United States has attacked more countries than any other nation on earth. Do you seriously not see what's wrong with this picture? With all our might and power, is there nothing better to be done? Like protecting the environment, say. Or cancelling 3rd World debt. Or setting up principles of fair trade which would allow poorer countries to compete in the world market and therefore ensure they harbor LESS resentment towards the West. Or should we just crush any country that gets in the way of American world hegemony, and screw the environment whilst we're at it, 'cos you can't make any money by protecting the planet? You decide. By the way, starting a fake Lazerlou blog is so very childish. You keep abasing yourself, which is why you continue to come across as a fool...

Chili - still posting as lazerlou, kind of gave yourself away there. Some "reports" on a pro-Republican website, including by an anonymous source, don't constitute proof. And even if these reports are true, there is still nothing to suggest Iraq could, or intended to, use these weapons against the West, especially in the time frame Bush claimed (45 minutes, for fuck's sake!). And for some reason you assume I'm European. You are verging on hysteria, and your attempts to pass yourself off as Lou just prove how insane you are. Although I'm beginning to feel you may be some teenager having a laugh trying to get people wound up. That would explain your bad grammar, ignorance of just about every subject mentioned and belligerence. Ha ha, you've had your little joke. Now jump up your own ass and die...

Chili - as you note, figuring out that you were posing as Lazerlou was obvious. Took me 2 seconds to realise. All it does is prove how lame and childish you are. I'm guessing you're about 15. Like I said before, your posts only contain half-truths (this report of yours has yet to be confirmed by anyone), you gloss over aspects like the fact Saddam DIDN'T sell WMDs to terrorists or the fact that there is no evidence to support claims Saddam intended to attack the US or had links to 9/11. You ignore comments made that you don't have an aanswer to, and "shout" whenever someone exposes the flaws in your arguments, resorting to grossly immature sentences like 'you hate America' or 'you're all commies'. Yet you have proved time and time again that you know absolutely nothing about: communism, liberalism, Islam or government. You are a very sad little boy. But keep it up, you're qute funny at times.

Huge WMD Discovery in Iraq? Not So Fast... Rightwing bloggers are in a frenzy over Rick Santorum's claim that 500 weapons munitions containing degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent were found in Iraq. But here's the operative portion of the story: "Offering the official administration response to FOX News, a senior Defense Department official pointed out that the chemical weapons were not in useable conditions. "This does not reflect a capacity that was built up after 1991," the official said, adding the munitions "are not the WMDs this country and the rest of the world believed Iraq had, and not the WMDs for which this country went to war." Meanwhile, back in the real world, 9 more American service members have been killed since Tuesday

Chili - In the middle of all your sloganeering and propaganda rehashing, I wonder if you take time out to think of the 20+ iraqi civilians murdered by US troops in retribution for an isurgent ambush they had nothing to do with. in fact, make that 40+, as it happened on two separate occasions. Problem is, both incidents were filmed. It makes for shocking viewing, imagines of unarmed Iraqi men being shot at point-blank range. It's about as shocking as the torture scenes from Abu Ghraib. I don't suppose that'll change your mind on how this war is being fought, but then what can I expect from a jumped up little racist. Keep driveling on about these disused and malfunctioning weapons they've discovered, I for one am sparing a thought for the scores of thousans of dead Iraqi civilians the Bush administrations cares so much about it can't even be fucked to count.

Chili - get a grip (and whilst you're at it, try and get an education), you fucking moron! When did I spit on the troops? I recommend you watch a beautiful documentary called Occupation : Dreamland. It features a series of interviews with young GIs based in Falluja in 2003. It shows the reality of the troops: young kids stuck in a country they know fuck-all about and who are scared shitless. If you do, YOU might actually learn something about the troops, and think twice before coming on here to spew your stinking rubbish!

I've been to Iraq (I work for a charity, doing m part. You should try it sometime, dick head), I've met some of these kids. I know more about their lives than you ever will, you jumped up cowardly little prick. These men and women are brave, loyal and I want to see them come home where they'll be safe, and not sacrificing their lives for a war they don't understand, and for reasons that have turned out to be LIES. You sit in your redneck trailer park shouting about how they should stay in Iraq and keep on risking their lives when you're not capable of going out there and seeing the truth with your own fucking eyes, and then you call me a coward!? I have no beef with the young men and women out there doing their jobs, but I do with the way this war is being fought.

The US military is so incompetent and cowardly, it doesn't even have the balls to give a proper account of the number of Iraqi civilians our bombs have killed! Where's the courage in that? An army has to take responsibility for its actions. If this War is so perfect (the stupidity of calling any war 'good' or 'proper' is astounding), how could the Abu Ghraib crisis have happened? How can we see people imprisoned in Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo WITHOUT A FAIR TRIAL? Where is the "democracy" in that? We need to show we are ABOVE the terrorists, that we WON'T descend to the levels of torture and injustice that they favor. Otherwise, we'll be the ones seen as evil, and the insurgency will never end. And who'll pay for our administration's blunders? The troops. The civilians in Iraq. Our military tried to cover up those two massacres, when over 40 UNARMED Iraqis were shot at POINT BLANK range in retribution for a crime THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH! The Commanders should have then held their hands up and said they were sorry, instead they covered it up. So now, we're seen as murderers and torturers.

I don't spit on the troops, get your facts right, dipshit. You've never been to Iraq, never seen a warzone, you've never talked to the people over there, and you're here giving lessons? People's lives are at stake, and we weren't told the truth. We deserve to know why our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and parents are out there risking their lives. We deserve to know why 30 000 Iraqis have been killed by bombs. We deserve to know why it is that the majority of our troops are deployed to protect oil reserves instead of the Iraqi population.

Finally, Chili, I have nothing for contempt for all the sickening, stupid, narrow-minded, braindead little racist fuckwits like you. You make me sick, with your Fox News "I'm gonna shoot me some fuckin' towel-heads" mentality. 30 years ago, you'd have been burning crosses and telling black people to sit at the back of the bus. Tell me, do you call AMERICAN muslims "towel-heads"? Or is your racism reserved only for FOREIGNERS you don't like the look of because you're to fucking stupid to try and understand anything about them or their beliefs?

T.Ogle,

I'd liss your ass if it wasn't so saggy and blighted with depends-rash.

Why should you subsidize seniors?

1. Because they cannot support themselves any longer, and it is the moral and ethiacal thing to do.

2. Because their labor helped build this country and provide the stable environement into which idiots like you could be born and think they live in a vacuum.

3. Because you are reaping many benefits from the tax dollars they paid into our government.

4. Because while you at 49 are far more useless than most 80 year olds, the fact is I will be a senior one day too, so it is in my best interest to support a system in which seniors will be guranteed a life with comfort and dignity.

5. Becasue we should honor our fathers and thy mothers, and other perople parents, and every old person, as each and every human being is worthy of a life of dignity and respect.

6. Because the dollars you make are only worth as much as they are thanks to the efforts of those who built our country and economy the generation before.

T.ogle,

You are a truly awful, immoral and unethical human being. You have no idea how economics work if you are so selfish to assume the value of your labor is definied without context and is not dependent on the labor of others, even those who are no longer working. I hope there is a hell, because that will gurantee you will get what you deserve you sub-human selfish repugnant detestable asshole.

Chili - golf course, eh? So, you're not just a racist fuck, you're also a WELL-TO-DO racist fuck. Even better. Shows what a world we live in when someone as uneducated as you can rise so high. You know about war, do you? Are you in Iraq, right now? No, I don't think so. I myself am in Syria, and have been in Iraq as recently as two months ago, bringing aid to refugees and homeless Iraqis. I have met these people. They're not terrorists. They didn't hate the US, until a plane dropped a shitload of BOMBS on their head. In fact, they still don't, but they are left with a feeling of fear and anger because they now have nowhere to live and all have lost members of their familys, not to Saddam, but to US bombs. I do NOT quantify violence. All torture, and all atrocities are heinous to me, which is why I don't want to see our troops descending to the same level as the terrorists under the orders of some lazy, warmongering general or secretary of state! I will never state that those 40+ INNOCENT civilians deserved to die, because they didn't. They were shot because one US trooper died, even though they had NOTHING to do with his death. How can you say they deserved it? Are you that stupid? Are you such a racist? What is it, "all the rag heads in the world should die"? You stupid redneck piece of shit. And I repeat, you worthless piece of fascist garbage, that I NEVER spat on any US troops. State an occasion when I did. I support our troops by condemning the people who sent them into that hell hole for LIES. But I cannot approve of torture, no matter the circumstances. I will not renounce the principles of democracy that made our nation great, and that means I will not renounce someone's right to a fair trial. There were three BRITISH subjects, aid workers working in Pakistan, who spent several months at Guantanamo Bay under wrongful arrest. Because they were never given the right to a fair trial, they rotted in a dank cell. Why? Because some racist shithead like you decided they were terrorists (because they were of Pakistani origins) without investigating, and your racist administration decided they should be sent to Guantanamo without a trial. And you dare talk about DEMOCRACY? Your stupidity is astounding. And state an occasion when I voiced ANY support for terrorists. You can't. Because I have always condemned acts of violence. I suported the war on the Taliban, because we knew they were harboring terrorists and we had the full backing of the international community. In the end, I was let down by the incompetent way that war was handled, and by evidence this administrations was more interested in a PIPELINE, than in helping the Afghan population. I do not support illegal wars, especially one that is set to lead to more strife and more terrorism. You, my friend, are the one who supports terrorism. Racism leads to hatred, and hatred will only be met by more hatred, and therefore violence. Try learning a bit about Islam (I note you never say anything when I ask you if you are equally racist towards AMERICAN muslims, probably because you are), a bit about Iraq, a bit about the Middle East, a bit about US hitory. Your problem is, like most racists, you rely on sensationalism, stereotyoes and vulgarity to express yourself. Oh, and I never claimed I thought you were from the South. I'm from Jackson, Mississippi. Unlike you, though, I was educated to be tolerant and accepting of people from different cultures. You're the kind of person that gives the South a bad name. No wonder we're still perceived as violent, uneducated racists. It's a sad thought to know that you can vote...

Chili - you're a racist, so shut up. The fact that I am a christian is accepted by most people in Syria. I don't flaunt my religion, I keep it to myself, and this is a very welcoming and friendly nation. I have no illusions about it's government, but your problem, like that of most racists, is that you generalize. You paint all muslims with the same "terrorist" brush. Man, if you were the only vision we had of the South, people would think us Southeners were all racist clowns! Thank God most people are open-minded and intelligent where you are just a stupid, narrow-minded asshole with no culture, education or eloquence.

I myself am relatively well-off, coming from a rich family. I don't have any problems with people with wealth (where did you get that from?). I only have a beef with stupid intolerant dickheads like you. It's not your money that bothers me, it's your racist mindset. I decided the best thing I could do with my time and money was help my fellow human beings. Neil has also donated a lot money to helping others. Your first reaction is to blow them up because they're different.

And Chili, if you read my posts, you'll see me condemn terrorism a number of times. I don't support terrorists, and you can't point to any occasion when I did, just like you can't point to any occasion when I insulted our troops. I never did either. I have been to talk to the troops in person, I have offered them psychological help to deal with the horrors they witnessed, and to bring home letters to their families. I have never supported terrorists. Tell me when I ever supported terrorists. You, on the other hand, by insisting this war go on and on, and supporting this administration, do support terrorists. They want nothing more than for the US to stay in Iraq, so they can enlist more and more orphans and angry Iraqis to their cause. So by supporting military presence in Iraq, you effectively support terrorism! I pointed to British citizens held in Guantanamo illegally for crimes they didn't commit just because they happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. If their rights had been respected, and they'd been given a proper trial, then they wouldn't have spent time in that hell-hole for nothing. How is that supporting terrorists? I condemn all acts of violence and aggression, and I condemn terrorism in all cases. But I also condemn when my own governement and military resort to similar acts as the terrorists. We are a democracy, and we need to behave like one. We need to show that, unlike these terrorist pigs, we DON'T abuse other people, we DON'T deny people their rights, no matter who they are. If you deny people their rights to trial, there are going to be fuck-ups, like there was with those three Brits.

You're the traitor, Chili. You are betraying the constitution and the values our country was built on and the values we have striven to achieve over the years. We fought so hard for racism to be ended in the USA. You are proof the job isn't finished.

And anonymous, thank you for the clips. How can people honestly say Bush is a capable leader - he can barely string a sentence together, and his grammar is about as good as dumb ol' Chili's. Some say it shows he's close to the people ("one of us"). For me, it's embarassing to know our President doesn't know what the capital of Greece is, that Wales is a country, and can't answer a simple question on whether he made any mistakes. If it's not written out for him, he can't handle it! The most worrying thing, though, is that he's not even the puppet master - he's the puppet. There are men around him who've been major players in every Republican presidency going back to Nixon. Men like Wolfowitz, or John Negroponte. These are the real decision-makers, the shadow men, and where GWB is just a monkey doing what he's told, these guys are doing everything to get rich and poweful, and then to STAY rich and powerful, at any cost. They've ruined South and Central America, brought chaos to South-East Asia, now they've got their hands all over the Middle East. And then we wonder why so many people hate us...

Chili - you ARE a racist, because you insist on tarring all Arabs/Muslims with the same brush. And being prejudiced is nothing to be proud of. Unless you are the stupid, uneducated racist you appear to be.

I have already condemned 9/11, you prick. No country in the world deserves that. But the 40 innocent civilians in Iraq murdered by US troops for a crime they didn't commit didn't deserve it, either. As I said, I do no want to see US troops descend to the level of terrorists just to please a bunch of fanatical racist shitbags like you and Donny Rumsfeld. And, as usual, you are unable to find any occasion when I DID spit on the troops or voice anything but disgust for terrorism. Digging your own grave, there, son.

On religion, unlike the fanatical right-wing christians that fork out money to feed George W Bush, I am not a vocal christian. I have my faith, my spiritual guidance, I feel no need to brandish it or force it on others. There is a considerable christian population in Syria (which is, I should remind you, an American ally), and whilst I wouldn't want to walk around in a 'I'm a christian' t-shirt, I have never felt threatened because of my religion. Once again, Chili, you show up your astounding ignorance on this page. Which is why you are a racist, of course, as ignorance leads to prejudice and prejudice leads to racism.

I'd also like to point out that I have held down a job since I was 18. I worked as a waiter, earned my independance, and then worked in communications. I have since moved into the voluntary sector. I don't have as much money as my family does, but that was all my choice. I don't hand out money non-stop, I'd run out. Instead I dedicate my time and experience on humanitarian projects across the world. It's how I've come to understand what makes our world what it is, and understand those in need and oppressed. You being a rich fascist pig with shit for brains and a hatred of anyone different, just keep on demonstrating that you know fuck all about anything. Maybe you should try getting out and seeing the world, doing a bit for charity, reading a book. You might learn something.

Finally, I don't think the muslims whose mosque was burned down in Texas would agree that the US is the safest place in the world to be if you're different. I don't think all the gay people who can't get married or adopt children in most states would either. And, as I said, I'm from the South, so why would I want to paint all SOutheners as shitbags? YOU are a racist, uneducated piece of garbage, but thankfully you only represent a minority. Sadly, you're a very vocal one... Say, did you watch that movie, "Occupation : Dreamland" I told you about? Probably not...

Chili Boy Wonder (the real one)
You are under the illusion that whatever your great leader does is right and it ain’t necessarily so. For you there is only black and white and no gray areas. You need to take a long hard look at yourself. You need to contemplate the idea that maybe, just maybe, America has contributed to the problems we are all witnessing. You need to start questioning things a bit more. (And before you start spouting off that I’m not an American. Your right I’m not. I’m from Europe but that won’t stop me from having my views.) There are often two sides to every story. It’s that old ‘terrorist’ or ‘freedom fighter’ syndrome. The US / West are waging a war on global terrorism to rid the world of terrorists and make the world a safer place for us all to live in. Fair enough. The Arabs see it as a Christian crusade to subjugate the Muslim people. It’s a colliding of different worlds and it needs to be resolved now. We need to look at the much bigger picture if we are ever to settle this.
These hardline Arab fanatics need to be reined in. The terrorist act of 9/11 was the most despicable act of inhumanity I have ever witnessed in my lifetime. All committed under the cloak of ‘God’s will’. How do you tackle the mindset of someone like that? It was f---ing evil! The perpetrators and organisers of that heinous crime will be caught and justice will be administered.
We need to work at creating a world where wars and barbaric acts are not prerequisite to resolving our differences. We had enough f—ing wars in the 20thC. We don’t need any more in the 21stC. Wars should be made banned! They cause untold misery and destroy people’s lives (literally). We should have evolved enough as a human race to be able to sort out our differences through negotiation without resorting to blowing each other away.
Why has it all come to this? Why is there so much hatred in the world?
The problems in the Middle East just go on and on. It’s like some recurring f—ing nightmare. As I type this stuff they are gearing up for another f---ing Israeli / Palestinian conflict. Some of it for sure can be traced back to the creation of Israel and its U.S. backing. Some Arabs don’t even recognise the state of Israel. To them I say that, like it or not, Israel is there to stay. Get used to it. It is not an impossibility for them to live peacefully together. They just have to work at it.
And perhaps one day soon Neil Young’s lyrics ‘I’m living with war everyday’ can be changed to ‘I’m living with hope everyday’.

9-11 was the best thing to come along since the Alamo. Without it we wouldn't have had the chance to take on the backward Muslims and right the world with our way of life. We have a thousand points of light for the homeless man, a kinder softer machine gun hand. We got toilet paper and cable TV, department stores and styrofoam containers. We got the right to drive down a "free"-way with our flashers on, going 35 miles an hour in the FAST-lane, we've got Big Macs too make our kids fat and lazy. We got computers FREE FOR ALL so molestors can hunt for kids. We can burn our own conferderate flags we can call the President a liar and we can flip the bird to a funeral procession.
I love this country!

Cold Bowel,
Don't let these guys bring you down. You are a true cold blooded American. The kind that makes your current Government proud. Keep on keeping on and fight evil with hate. You won't be denied.
Strength to you my brother, we will see you at the white supremacist rally this Saturday. Don't forget to bring your noose with the Arab head in it, you got a lot of props with that one the last time. Also wear your T-Shirt that says NO MORE WAR because you will be supported at the march, cause you're in America and can do what you want. We are tolerant of opposing views and this is what we are trying to teach those damn ragheads in the desert. Don't forget, if you bring a gun to the rally, you get a free roll of toilet paper to use at the end of the march to show these backward ass Muslims what it's used for.
Our guest speaker is Ann Coulter and she will be giving a motivational talk on how to incite public opinion to sell more books. She will be showing proof positive material showing the difference between the real tears of GW vs. the wifes of dead 9/11's. HINT: one has salt, one does not. Show up earlier and get your plastic Al Gore T-Shirt. The irony of wearing his face on a shirt made by emmitting greenhouse gases. Bring a friend and get a free raffle ticket where we auction of sledge hammers to smash a Hybrid vehicle.

See you at the picnic!

I'll say it was wrong and is wrong if you say the war in Iraq was a mistake. You say it and I'll say it. Say it you coward.......OF COURSE IT WAS WRONG IDIOT. Blowing up buildings of innocent people is wrong and fool can say that. Torturing our soldiers and cutting off their heads is wrong. Dead wrong. I'm against violence. Hate can't beat evil and evil can't beat hate. IT'S ALL WRONG.

YOU admit it too, you tobacco sucking confederate. Say war is wrong and two wrongs don't make a right!

Well, now someone else is publishing comments in my name as well. I agreed with the gist of what this new me was saying, but not the confederate bit. Coming from the South, I have a love of that part of the US, and, as a Southener, know that the Confederate flag means more than the stereotypes often associated with it.

Sorry, Chili. See, I have a life, and I was on a missjuion in Palestine, delivering aid to refugees. That's why I haven't responded to your childish goads.

First, a word to anonymous with the videos. Thank you for your comments. I don't consider my faith to be anyting but private. In fact, I regret piking this pseudonym a bit. I am not a traditional christian. I don't follow the Old Testament at all, as it was written such a long time ago, in a world that no longer reflet our own. Plus, taking it too literally would be a mistake, as it is technically a series of analogies and metaphors. The people who worry the most in this world are those christians who treat the OT as a reality and enforce it on others of different beliefs.

In the New Testament, my emphasis is on Jesus, and his message of love and compassion. That's all, really. Jesus lived his life a certain way, and left a strong message for the world. You can adhere to it or not, but I do, and I hate seeing people call for violence and intolerance in Jesus' name. Which is what Bush and all the other radical right-wing christians in the USA are doing.

As for Chili - well, I guess you really are either a complete moron or a serial trouble maker, so I don't think I'll be responding to you any longer. I have, and always will, condemn the 9/11 attacks. They were barbarous and cowardly. If you can't see that this is a condemnation, then you're a bigger fool than even I imagined. I also condemn the butchering of innocent Americans by terrorists. I already have. So, will you now condemn the massacre of 40 innocent and unarmed Iraqis by American troops in retaliation for a crime they didn't commit? Will you cease to acquaint all Muslims with terrorists? You still haven't told me whether you consider all AMERICAN muslims to be terrorists. Do you not know that Yasser Arafat condemned 9/11? That the entire muslim population of the USA united in also condemning it? You keep on spewing your bullshit, and keep on showing yourself up to be a racist. That's all you are, you fucking piece of garbage. A racist. 45 years ago, you'd have been dressing up all in white and burning crosses and lynching black people. Unless you are just some lame joker, you are truly the scum of the earth, and I think the root of all that's wrong in this world lies at the feet of ignorant, racist pigs like you, George Bush and Osama Bin Laden. You're all the same dirt, to me.

Here, Chili, some countries that suffered unbelievable oppression, genocide, mass murder and dictatorships due to direct influence from the United States government and the CIA: Chile, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Argentina, Cambodia, Zaïre (now DRC), Uganda, Burma (now Myanmar), El Salvador, Colombia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Liberia, Saudi Arabia... Here are a handful of evil dictators responsible for countless mass murders supported by the United States via arms deals or economic contracts: Pol Pot, Augusto Pinochet, Gen. Alvarez of Honduras, Suharto (Indonesia), Peron (Argentina), Mobuto Sese Sako, Idi Amin Dada, Charles Taylor. Oh, and Saddam Hussein, of course. These evil people were all supported, armed and fed by the USA. The CIA even did Pinochet's dirty work for him by murdering Salvador Allende, the democratically elected President of Chile. Thousands of men and women disappeared, were tortured or were murdered during Pinochet's regime. The weapons Saddam Hussein used to fight a war against Iran and then murder thousand of his own citizens, were sold to him by the US.

So imagine growing up in one of those countries. Seeing members of your family killed and THEN learning that the US played a part in getting their murderers into power and keeping them there. The most powerful country in the world using it's might not to do good or make the world a better place, but instead supporting killers and dictators for money and ideological power. Can't you see that the US is directly responsible for the hatred people across the world feel for our great country. It's SO easy for terrorists to manipulate people in these circumstances. Terrorism is a heinous crime, both cowardly and barbaric. But we can't fight it if we keep making the same mistakes over and over again. The US needs to show that it DOESN'T cause pain and suffering. It needs to show that it supports the poor and needy, that it supports democracies, not dictators. Or people will keep on hating us. Cancel Third World debt. Install free trade. Give poor countries a chance for once to pull themselves out of the economic and social quagmire, maybe they'll learn to love us again.

I don't expect you, Chili, to ever understand this. If you're just here to provoke people, Neil Young fans, as some sort of silly joke, you've over-stayed your welcome. If you are really the stupid, narrow-minded racist you appear to be, then you'll probably remain one 'til the day you die. But, as you know nothing about democracy, international politics, Islam, communism, US history, government, I couldn't care less. Except that it's scary to think a person as stupid and prejudiced as you can vote. You're the symptom of a sad state of affairs.

Tell me this one thing, how can America be entitled to preach democracy in this world, when over in the US, gay people are not even allowed to marry, have children or serve their country by joining the Military? And that's just the tip of the iceberg, I'm afraid. Something to mull over, jackass.

HA--you US-hater will stop at nothing to rationalize why you're (get it?) country deserved to be attacted on 9-11, we cause the Muslims of the world to hate us even though we let them worship here freely? Do they let us worship there freely? I don't think so! Did you where your T-Shirt? I don't think so! Your (again) helping the Palestinian's fight the Jews? You support the Arab's hatred for Jews, you want them to give Palestine back to the Palestinians when it was never theirs to begin with? When NONE of the Arab country's would defend and support the Palestinians, give them refuge, GIVE UP THEIR LAND to give the Palesinians a country? Give me a break, you JEW HATER. You are an anti-semite. You spit on the Jews Bible the old testament? You discount their entire religion and race. Dear me, Chili, you are clutching at straws... For your information, a number of the people I work with are Israelis. They're not traitors to their country, but like me, they see the awful conditions the Palestinian refugees are living in, and have decided to help by bringing water and food to the camps. The Israel/Palestine conflict is so complex, I'm not going to get into the ins and outs of it, especially with a racist dumbass such as you. Let me just say this: since 1948 and the decision to create Israel and annull the sovereignty of Palestine, 70% of the land that is Israel is occupied by only 20% of the population. Which means the Palestinians, who represent 80% of the population, have been left with but 30% of the land. Can that honestly be seen as fair. Sadly, things have got into such a bad state that the Palestinians have elected a terrorist organisation to govern them. Which is terrible. But maybe something could have been done BEFORE the situation reached this latest nadir.

As for Syria, Chili do you realise that Syria is an economic ally of the United States? That's right, there's oil over here. I know just how bad the government is, here, although religion is not the problem (there are churches here, and I go to church regularly), more political corruption and ideological manipulation. So, if Syria is such an evil hot-bed of Islamo-fascism and totalitarianism, why is Bush doing deals with these guys? Could it be he's not such a stand up guy? I guess it does. I've seen the harshness of the Syrian government, I know what they're like. If it weren't for my work, I wouldn't be here. But Bush doesn't care about stopping dictators, unless they're unwilling to do business, of course.

Finally, you are probably right that I wouldn't be able to wear a 'I'm a Christian' tee-shirt in Damascus (not that you'd be able to wear an 'I'm a Muslim' one in Fort Worth, either), but supposedly that's what separates the US, where we're supposed to be free, from a totalitarian regime like the one in Syria. So what is your point, Chili? "Don't express yourself in the US, 'cos you can't do it in Syria"? Again, your overwhelming stupidity lets you down. That and being an evil racist with shit for brains.

I'll ignore your comments on the Old Testament, as they're stupid to the extreme. I don't follow the OT as I don't believe it to be true. And Jews don't follow the Toreh the way some right-wing christians follow the OT, it's a different religion with a different way of approaching issues. I respect anyone's desire to follow any religion, in whatever way they want. So long as they don't enforce that religion on others. Jews don't enforce their religion on others. Right-wing Republican-financing christian fanatics in the US do. Which is why I have nothing but contempt for them. Get a life, Chili, and an education. I notice you DEMAND responses to your own posts, yet never respond to any questions I put to you. Is it because you are too stupid and racist to answer?

At 7/03/2006 06:06:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Chili - getting more and more desperate aren't you? I did say that 9/11 was wrong. And I have always said that torture was wrong, which includes the torture of American soldiers. If you're just going to make stuff up, you lose credibility. Not that you were ever very credible!

So I think you're boring me now. Like most sad little racists, you only resort to catch-phrases and blind clichés to make a point. As you lose the debate, you seem more and more desperate, hence the "FUCK YOU" line.

I'll leave you with these questions, though I don't give a fuck if you answer or not. They just serve to highlight the stupidity of everything you've spouted here.

1) I have condemned and condemned 9/11. Tell me, have you taken time to reflect on those 40 innocent, UNARMED civilians shot at point-blank range by US troops in retaliation for a crime they DIDN'T commit? Did those people deserve to die, Chili, even though they weren't terrorists, had nothing to do with terrorists, and were unarmed?

2) Did those three BRITISH subjects held without trial at Guantanamo Bay under false pretenses, even though they were AID workers living in Pakistan, deserve to be tortured? Just because they were of Pakistani origins, does that make them terrorists? Didn't they deserve a fair trial?

3) Is it OK for the US to support some dictatorships and terrorist supporters (Saudi Arabia), but then also to blow the shit out of others? Can you not see the hypocrisy there? Saudi Arabia is an evil state, where women have no rights and people are beheaded in the street and that is known to support terrorism, yet the US does endless business with Saudi Arabia. Why doesn't the US try to free the oppressed Saudi population? Because the Bush administration doesn't give a fuck about the Saudis, just like it never did about the Iraqis. Can you not see this is all about political and economic power?

4) "A punch in the nose"? Can you honestly talk about equality and democracy after admitting that there is rampant intolerance in the US? Why don't we think about sorting out our OWN injustices (the inequalities faced by gay people, immigrants and blacks in the US) and our OWN political manipulation before telling other countries what to do? You talk about saving the Iraqis from Saddam, then call them all "rag heads". Can you not see that you're a RACIST, Chili?

5) Why did George Bush reduce the anti-terrorist budget in 2001? Why don't you mention this? Why don't you mention the fact that he's slashed the environment and health care budgets to fund this war? Is War all that matters? Killing and being killed? Is that the best you can think of Chili?

At 7/03/2006 10:34:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The problem with the both of you is that you are both too far out on the spectrum. Left and right.
Get closer to the middle (like Bush did at the behest of Rove to win the election). You are both a little right and a lot wrong.
Christian don't paint the entire Bush administration as being against gays, immigrants, blacks and anyone not serving their agenda. That's crap. Saudia Arabia is an ally. They may not be perfect at all, but they aren't starting wars (Iran Iraq). They did MUSTARD the Kurds. Sadaam was bad, but the bigger argument here is we shouldn't have gone to war with Iraq. We should have found another way. Chili all liberals don't want to give our country away, they don't want free borders, gay marriages. Some of us supported the action in Afganistan, but I for one marched on Wash against the Iraq War. I believe the Bush administration rushed into this and although they may have not overtly lie, they bent the truth to fullfill their agenda.
The palestinian issue is very complex and non of the Arab countries want them. They only want Israel to give up their land for them. The entire middle east is very complex and will take a middle of the road approach and brilliant people to solve along with a helluva lot of compromise.
I don't like either of the extreme left or right and you both should get off of your high philosophical paths.
But War is not the answer and that's what this album and this website is about and although many bleeding heart liberals that want to save everyone, but ugly Americans, give this cause a bad name and a bad taste, let's not lose sight of this one point.
So Chili, lighten up on Christian and maybe he'll come down off his "high moral ground" some and start working with ALL Americans to make the world a better place to live in.
Peace
