Neil Young: "I strongly recommend that you do not use Amazon" + Gifting NYA to Greenland + New Songs
More recently, in a statement on Neil Young Archives, he is calling for a boycott of Amazon.
"Amazon is owned by Jeff Bezos, a billionaire backer the president. The president's international policies and his support for ICE make it impossible for me to ignore his actions. If you feel as I do, I strongly recommend that you do not use Amazon. There are many ways to avoid Amazon and support individual Americans and American companies that supply the same products. I have done that with my music, and people who are looking can find it in many other places.

Plus, in another statement titled "A MESSAGE FROM NEIL" via Neil Young Archives, Neil Young is now gifting NYA subscriptions to citizens of Greenland.
"I hope my music and music films will ease some of the unwarranted stress and threats you are experiencing from our unpopular and hopefully temporary government.It is my sincere wish for you to be able to enjoy all of my music in your beautiful Greenland home, in its highest quality. This is an offer of peace and love. All the music I made during the last 62 years is yours to hear. You can renew for free was long as you’re in Greenland. We do hope other organizations will follow in the spirit of our example.”

Per statistics via Thrasher's Wheat, Greenland traffic does not even register. Traffic from countries such as Bangladesh or Iraq rank higher.
Which brings us to a recent letter to Neil on NYA asking whether he is writing new songs about the current political situation in the USA. Neil Young's response:
"I have a few songs in the works – five or six."

What took Neil so long to realize Amazon was a terrible company? I've been in the NW and the Seattle area on and off for over 30 years and seen the destruction this company brought to this once amazing city. And to our country and the small businesses it routinely decimates too.
Better late than never!
“When the winter rains come pouring down”, I’m happy to see Neil Young’s enormous chrome heart shining as brightly as ever. Don’t mistake my recent absence for acquiescence or apathy. I find the “venting” approach, for me personally, provides very limited relief. As a matter of using my time and energies where needed, I’ve been sitting out some of the TW byplay.
I think I’ve made the contours of my position(s) clear in the past, and I see too many of these discussions not having positive impact for anyone. To be clear, that’s not a Thrasher problem. It’s a challenge of social media and cultural climate in general.
With these electronic screens in our pockets, a constant stream overstimulation and desensitization is available to us. When NY said “keep on blogging ‘til the lights go out”, I’m fairly sure it was facetious.
@willforestwater - we do hear you regarding AMZ. While TW still runs AMZ ads - mainly for Neil CD's etc - most of the links have long gone defunct and produce zero revenue. We have long planned a TW overhaul to remove broken AMZ links, but the the upgrade path difficulty keeps getting steeper.
As always, we encourage folks to shop locally and independently.

Totally understand. Like Dan who dropped off here, but who we still communicate with on a semi regular basis, everyone needs to figure out their best, most effective use of time.
Likewise, we remain as engaged and passionate as ever for our personal causes beyond Neil music.
But what really got our attention was:

We beg to differ. We think he was quite sincere and have never heard anyone say differently. Why might you think that?
thrasher, The tone of the whole song (Fork in the Road) is darkly comedic. From Trans through My New Robot (which name-checks Amazon), NY has shown a willingness to work with technology while remaining aware of potential pitfalls: the continuous push for engagement, the consumption of energy, possible dehumanization.
We have powerful communication tools but it’s important, at least occasionally, to rest and recharge our batteries. That way you don’t have to burn out or fade away too soon.

Yes in the work all the time. Neil calls himself a giant outtake. Working on them all the time.

No ideas. Every American should use their conscience to stand up for beliefs and not be intimidated.

Go to Apple for these. Neil likes the original mixes and what he did in the first place. What the Archives are about. Niko’s atmos mixes are great and Vol 4 is full of them.
Asked to say a few words about Judy Greenberg
Neil says she was a wonderful person and a great supporter of his music. Life is sometimes a rough ride but she had to go. Zeke chips in to say she was the first subscriber. Neil says she was a one in a million. She loved music and will always be around.

Not that I know of.
How is Canary getting on?
Last 50 pages. Final edits. Getting ready to do art (watercolor painting). End of this year. Maybe 2027. Working on it since 2017. Sci fi. Quite a story.
What in pipeline that most excited about?
All the same to Neil. Like the new songs. One called ”The Second Song”. Woke up with the melody in his head. Thinks must have existed already and so wrote new lyrics to it.
Any chance we will get a Neil Young biopic film?
Says he hopes not! Does not know how you can do that while still alive. Got some people he knows working on something but does not want to get involved. Wants to make a record.
Will independent venues make a recovery like vinyl?
Has a go at Amazon.
How is the train set?
Fantastic. One of his greatest endeavors. Art of creating things form real things.
How determine set lists for every show to show?
He does it by feel. Write down the setlist before the show and then deviate from it.
Zeke mentions that Chrome Hearts can play anything he pulls out of the hat.
Question about if he will organize a show to mobilize musicians.
Neil’s not going to organize, he follows the muse. Other people can do this better.
How does it feel to be 80?
Feels good. Thought he’d be scared until he was 80. What the heck? Who cares? A lot of things don’t matter that used to matter. Likes to stay physical. Walked 3 miles at 8,500 feet yesterday in his new shoes to not slide around on the ice.
How are Ralph and Billy?
Happy, healthy and well. Poncho too. Spoke to him last week. Played them the Trocadero disc. They loved the ‘new’ old stuff.
Trocadero has 7/8 songs that Neil hardly ever played with CH: Razor Love, Big Time.
How decide if play a song acoustic or electric?
Depends on how he feels. Some more fun acoustic and some electric. Admits not a good answer, he just makes things up on the go.
How has the Greenland free access gone?
Reaction has been good.
How feel about old classic songs?
If tired of it, then don’t play it. No rules. It’s like the wind, just comes and goes. Bob doesn’t plan what he plays. He plays what he feels like playing. Follows the muse to play how he wants, even if not recognizable.
What’s on the new live album?
First song to be released is Silver Eagle. And then Big Crime. Incredible version of Cortez from Bergen. Best version ever in his opinion because it came out different when he sang it. Stopped each verse a line early and let the verses sync into a big hodge podge. Tells a whole story from a new view.
Status of Tape Sessions log from Volume 3?
John says on his desk. Got a list last week.
When is Coastal coming to NYA?
Frank Girona says its on the way but Neil jokes that business gets crossed with art.
Law suit x Chrome Hearts?
Frank says worked out an arrangement but can’t comment otherwise. Neil will continue using the name.
Spoken to Stephen recently?
Yes, spoke last week. Keeps in touch with these guys.
