Neil Young vs. Amazon: Neil Young To Withdraw Music from Amazon.com
Neil Young has announced that he will withdraw his music catalog from Amazon Music.
Folks may recall back in 2022 when Neil Young had his music catalog removed from Spotify.
In a statement on Neil Young Archives, Neil Young announced that his music will soon no longer be available on the platform. In the message, published on October 8, 2025, he urged people to stop shopping at Amazon and its US supermarket chain Whole Foods:
"FORGET AMAZON AND WHOLE FOODS.
Stop buying from big corporations."
Instead, people should "buy local" and "buy direct." Consumers should support their community and visit local businesses. The goal is to "Take America Back" by doing the right thing and supporting local businesses.
Neil goes on to criticize big corporations for "selling out America" accusing corporations of crippling the US government, endangering people's incomes, undermining personal safety, and jeopardizing families' healthcare.
Neil Young specifically mentions Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who supports the Trump administration. He argues that America is at the beginning of an "age of corporate control." Everyone must therefore give up something to save the country. Therefore, Neil Young concludes:
"Soon, my music will no longer be available there."
Neil Young has had a long and tangled relationship with digital music vendors such as Amazon. Much of the struggle is detailed in the book "To Feel the Music" by Neil Young and Phil Baker.

After seeing the Coastal movie on the big screen , I sought out the soundtrack. Only to find Neil pulled the release to correct issues. Then I noticed it was available as a hi res d/l in the NY d/l store. But no vinyl? Odd, but the Vinyl was available on Amazon so i snagged it. Looked like an “official” release but sound was what I can only describe as intermittent “digitized skipping”. And not on all songs. So I reached out to NYA cust support. They said a few of the pulled releases made there way to Amazon. They graciously provided me with a d/l link. They rock @ NYA 😎

… learn how to cook their meals themselves in order to acquire some taste of their own as opposed to standardized tastes produced by the food industry
… don’t have a problem with eating less meat
… don’t buy the idea that 500 different GMO yoghurts and chlorine chicken make for a consumer paradise
… think twice before they book a transcontinental or even intercontinental flight to see a concert by their favourite rock star
… remember the idea that an education that deserves being called education is rather about values than about bought and paid for knowhow to make even more money
… believe that illness, handicap and old age are not an individuals fault and therefore conclude that no individual should not fall victim to the capitalist pseudo-puritan darwinists
… that nature is more than a resource or a pretty landscape for the holidays
… believe that a democratic government as such is as imperfect as any human undertaking but they know they can’t do without one
… that acting on behalf of themselves, the common good, and a liveable future of their descendants instead of lining the White House outhouse with gold, is an expression of free speech
… are taking to the streets because they support some of the ideas above while their government is running away with their country
So Alan, Dan and Thrasher are all on the right track, I believe and their ideas do not exclude each other.
Maybe you can check some of the ideas on this list. If you can’t, maybe you should ask yourself whether you overstayed your welcome on this planet?

DIONYS, I am not sure if there is enough character left in America for many or all of your ideas. Change requires a diligence of character. Even asking Americans to downsize their vehicles is mostly hopeless. When necessity forces change, we know that character has vanished.
Listing all these ideas, I am still a realist. I know that Americans grew a habit of running gas-guzzlers and I agree that it will take necessity in a lot of these areas of everyday life because character has vanished. Thanks Alan. To clarify, in our direct experience, we've seen little gained from sign waving, marching. Protests like No Kings excel at visibility and unity but lack the direct economic pressure of boycotts.

Protests are for the young, and the angry, and for those of us whose youthful spirit may reveal we never really grew up, to accept the norms expected from society. Protesting might make you feel good, but unless it's a majority, it doesn't really accomplish anything. And the anti-Trump crowd ISN'T the majority at this point, not even close. Shop locally, go to farmer's markets instead of big chains, quit Amazon, go off the grid, stop living your life over the phone, reconnect with God, family, and the most important friends. Made my breakfast today from plants I grew in my backyard garden. Next went to the farmers market, where I bought carrots, spinach and shiitake mushrooms. And then to a spontaneous NO Kings protest, a tiny hyperlocal gathering here in my Seattle Greenlake area at a main intersection. There are similar spots all over Seattle: Phiney Ridge, I-5 interstate overpasses, other neighborhoods.
So, yes, we vote with our dollars in here in America, and growing your own is best. But your a fool if you think protests do nothing, and a tool of the orange one's propaganda that wants you to give up before you start!
Get off the grid as much as you can. But SHOUT the truth out as loud as you can too. Both DO make a difference.

Well, I just got back from downtown Santa Cruz, where I had no choice but to be thrust right into the protest. There were a LOT of people there, although the Cruz is as blue as it gets, so not surprised about the crowd size. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, and in case you're wondering, yes, a lot car horns are working just fine. I saw a lot of 86/47 signs, yet another example of how peaceful and tolerant that side is, you know calling for violent murder is ok when it's the good guys doing it, right?
Two other observations, first, considering Santa Cruz is a college town, I didn't see a lot of young people there, or hardly anyone of brown or black color. Just a WHOLE LOT of old white liberals.
2nd, and most important, lots of people had their dogs on leashes with them. Is a loud, crowded protest really the best place to take your dog? People yelling, horns blasting....I'm sure most of those doggies would rather have been home, or maybe on a quiet walk with their owners instead of being stuck in that chaos.
Anyways, that's my report from Santa Cruz. Have a nice day, kids. And remember, when you wake up tomorrow, Donald J Trump will still be the President. Have fun with that!

Well, genius, if you must know, I used to blindly vote blue, most of my life actually. But as many of the red-pilled (and there are MILLIONS of us) have said, I didn't change, the Democrats did. Heck, even our current Fuehrer in charge used to vote blue. He woke, I woke up, many others have woken up, and someday I hope you wake up.
As far as me being near the protest, I had business to do in downtown Santa Cruz, so that's why I was there. You see, some of us work for a living, kind of like the paid protesters who make up a good share of the crowds that you see at these things.

I have yet to see a positive case made from @Richie or other "red-pilled" person on tangible benefits that this party under this administration is providing. More jobs? Nope. Lower prices? Nope. Free speech? Hardly. More housing? Where? A cleaner environment? Puhleeze. Stronger public health? Lol. Lower violent crime? Was already at historic lows. Lower white -collar crime? Au contraire . Lower taxes? Short-term maybe, but at enormous long-term cost and disproportionately at the highest income levels anyway. Protection of the Constitution? Hard no. Higher stock market? I am currently enjoying the challenge. I have never felt as intense as now, in the struggle to educate. It is a very hard challenge, which is one reason why it is so damn interesting. What I consistently see in the human condition, in my own microcosm, is the tide of conformity. What a battle to create an identity in which one achieves something like a complete agency in the world. I think this might be why I was initially attracted to Neil Young as an adolescent. He resisted conformity and for actual reasons (he was not chaotically swinging for attention). Learning how to think is dangerous and often perceived as anti-social. But we persist.
We are familiar with the ability to troll. It is on constant display. Less apparent is any ability to deliver actual policy that benefits the people. I have not seen it. It's been fantasized about, with some expectation that tariffs will encourage a reindustrialization that alleviates all the (often legitimate) grievances voiced by many. But, will it? Seems very questionable. Meanwhile, I guess the strategy is that we should enjoy the cruelty circus. Haven't heard much else animating the GOP other than that.

In all seriousness, what is the solution? Obviously, more user control of comments with a different system might help. But we lose all comments history. In addition, the technical challenges of implementing are prohibitively time consuming.

Separating the wheat from the chaff. Nobody's right to free speech is denied, if there are stricter limits with regards to Neil content and off-topic comment. It's a Neil Young related website after all. The right to free speech does not include that everybody can say everything all the time in all places. That's just a naive assumption. The old rust list had a "pledge of peace and rust". Maybe marking items or topics as being under the limitations of civilized discourse would help. Anything stepping outside should be deleted then.
I know very well that I would have to discipline myself, too. But TW is worth the effort.

I used to think a strict Neil Young topics only policy would be appropriate, as I saw this site as one of my escapes from all the bad things going on in the world. Aside from her earlier hits (Tom's Diner, Luka, Marlene on the Wall) Suzanne Vega when playing her third European concert in München two weeks ago received the loudest audience response for her introduction to "Speakers' Corner", and for the song itself, which happens to open her album "Flying with Angels". Travelling with a multi-instrumentalist-guitarist and a cellist only the stage action was kind of reduced, her voice was in perfect shape. I am undecided as to whether I like this live concert format. A full band with rhythm section maybe would distract from the etherical sounds. But guitar loops and drum tracks to me make for a rather sterile live atmosphere.

Our American relatives in Chicago helped my family to survive after 1945, a fair number of them emigrated to the US, you can look them up in the Californian phone books and you'll find their names on the Vietnam memorial in Washington DC. Apparently your limited historical knowledge and your assumptions about other countries make you think that a German after 1918 and 1945 must be nurturing revanchist feelings. There have been hundred thousands of American soldiers in my country since then. Maybe ask them about the Germans they met. Beyond that, feel free to make a fool of yourself.

Als ein Amerikaner mit judischen Hintergrund, der auch fast ein Jahrzent in Deutschland gewohnt habe, weiss ich, die Vergangenheitsbewältigung, die die Nachkriegsgenerationen in Deutschland geprägt hat, sehr zu schätzen. Davon könnten wir in Amerika viel lernen.

Wie ich in meinen Beiträgen versuche deutlich zu machen, ist es allerdings ein schwieriges Problem derartigen Demagogen die Plattform zu nehmen. Das hat mit Meinungs- und Redefreiheit nicht viel zu tun, sondern mit gesundem Menschenverstand. Nach einer Weile muss in jedem Haushalt der Müll entsorgt werden oder man lebt auf einer Müllkippe.

Dionys: I have never been “ A glass half full” kinda guy. Admittedly more “A glass half empty”. That is not to say I am pessimistic. Rather I consider it to be realistic, in the sense that If I feel that glass may become full.
Parallels may be drawn here in my political view. I am neither a Democrat nor Republican. I am a registered, lifelong, Independent voter (and thinker). The flexibility in not tying one’s hopes & dreams to any singular party affiliation.
Common ground (and sense) is how we will work our way out of this quagmire.
