I am in Rattvik to see the show tonight! I’m from the East Coast of the US but implausibly enough, was planning our first-ever trip to Sweden, so when I saw that the dates overlapped, I had to buy a ticket and take a 3 1/2 hour train ride so I could be there tonight while my family flew on ahead without me. I have been lucky enough to see Neil a lot lately, including the two shows he played with the chrome hearts at the capital theater in Port Chester. Suffice it to say I am very excited.

Happy travels, Thrasher et al! We may see you at Malahide Castle. Until then, signing off everywhere to elude the dreaded setlist posts ;)

Show was about 93 min including encore. Loved it! Nothing from new album - highlights for me were Be the Rain and Looking Forward.

First “Looking Forward” in 25 years, first “Be the Rain” in 11

Well who knew what we really needed was a mini Greendale revival.

Seth, was there any obvious politically slanted chat from Neil or were we in "How ya doing?" territory tonight?

He made one comment about how Sweden is so clean and green and environmentally aware, but other than that, it was totally “how ya doin”

Wow, and first Sun Green since the Greendale shows in 04. And the first time I’ve heard rockin in the free world since 2018 - it fit thematically and he sounded fired up.

What, no "Amber Jean" in the first show?

Hey, I kid cuz I care.

Great show! Greendale cuts were excellent. The “Looking Forward” was another highlight for me. Glad I had seats, the pit was oversold and looked packed. Such a cool venue.

At 6/19/2025 06:25:00 AM, Blogger Seth said...

It’s funny, because I have a bad back and would have welcomed a seat, but I was in the pit, 2nd row from the stage, and I did have a little bit of room to dance/bounce around. I have seated tickets to see Neil at Jones Beach and I was actually regretting that a bit last night because it’s so cool to be so close. Very cool venue, agreed.

Re: Seth: Amazing venue, setlist. I am beyond envious. If you don’t mind, were the ticket prices comparable to U.S. prices? I’d imagine irregardless of price, prob a sell out?

Just watched the Youtube video of Hey Hey etc.

Neil looks on good form.
But the chrome hearts ( Spooner Oldham excepted) look out of their depth. Youngsters trying to look cool and play with Uncle Neil. He is better than that; and better than them.

I am not sorry not to be able to see him live on this tour. A solo concert as in Coastal or maybe even one last gallop with the Horse - Yes. But with second rate wannabees - no thank you.

At 6/19/2025 07:35:00 PM, Blogger heile said...

they all have been playing with Neil for over a decade now, so I believe it it is YOU who is out of their depth. Have a great day 👍

At 6/19/2025 07:59:00 PM, Blogger Dionys said...

Sure, we all want to see a 35 year old Neil Young trying to look cool and play with (fill in a favourite artist). To dimiss the Chrome Hearts as "second rate wannabes" is pretty harsh given the fact that neil Young choose them as his backing band. Does this also extend to Pearl Jam, the International Harvesters or all the other bands of the last five decades that were not Crazy Horse?

Looking Forward video is up on YouTube. Micah harmonized beautifully.

That venue looks incredible. It’s like having a concert in a volcano.

What a venue! I would like to go there for a show someday. Red Rocks still on my bucket list. Wilco 2026?

@Alan : There’s no doubt; you will be blown away at Red Rocks. That amphitheater never disappoints.

Peace 🙏

Being almost as big a fan of "Greendale" as the notorious Flyin' Scotzman I always wondered why Neil Young stayed away from this album's most anthemic songs for decades (with the occasional exception). Needless to underline that "Sun Green" and "Be the Rain" both put a young woman into the focus of attention. If I had a daughter in Sun Green's age I wished her to be a little bit like this fictional character - and it is not far-fetched to believe that's what Neil Young back then intended to create for himself and his fans. Maybe that's at the heart of the dark mirages today, having grown up someone neither wanted to bring down dinner nor play a goddess in the planet wars. All speculation, I know, but then: these new songs invite pseudo-psychological speculations.

Up until his 2023 it seems that Neil usually only plays his older songs and the newest material from his recent albums. The cutoff point would usually be Harvest Moon songs.

Hello Heile,
So I am out of my depth because I do not consider the musicians with Neil to be that good. I think you fail to understand that different people can have different views about things - but maybe that is a sign of Trump's times in the good old US of A.

And Dionys,
I thought Pearl Jam were terrific; International Harvesters good; the Electric Band good etc But I have never rated POTR or now the chrome hearts.

They jig around the stage nicely and try to look as if they belong there, but for me I do not rate them as musicians worthy to play with Neil. But for the Willy Nelson connection I doubt if POTR would ever have seen the light of day.
Neil however clearly has a different view to me - and others too disagree with my opinion. That is fine.

But does anyone really think that anything Neil has done with POTR or the chrome hearts can match his recordings with Crazy Horse or his solo output?

Maybe, just maybe there will be a wonderful late outpouring of the muse as with Bod Dylan and Rough and Rowdy Ways. But I do not anticipate it will ever be with POTR or the chrome hearts.
Roger - Over and Out

@ Julia. You are certainly still allowed to have an opinion in the good ol’ USA but under Trump, maybe for not very much longer?
You will ALWAYS, however have the right to be WRONG. Which you are. Promise of the Real was GREAT live as a backing band fer Neil in 2015. And last year Micah arguably kept the horse prodding along. It was NOT his fault the Horse was not @ full gallop. They are older men now and the youthful exuberance Micah (& his bandmates provide) undoubtedly keep Neil, well, young. Ever catch the film of the Ireland gig, after the passing of Elliot Roberts? ‘Nuff said.

POTR were basic and boring. This version is not much better, but Neil's got Ol' Black, and this is the band he's with now, so I'll be there at whatever venue is replacing the Gorge.

At 6/23/2025 08:39:00 PM, Blogger herbsworld said...

Basic & boring? That’s probably an off handed compliment. Translation: A Tight Band. Don’t get me wrong, my fave way to enjoy Neil was always riding the horse. They were rough & ragged. They could easily veer off the road, into the ditch. In THAT respect, I agree. But from what I’ve witnessed, I’ll take your version of basic & boring also.
The Chrome hearts are a watered down version of the real. Sans Lukas Nelson.
