So apparently Neil played a long solo set last night, even broke out My Boy, not heard since the Harvester days, but not a peep on here from anybody here. How can we get the conversation started? Wait, I've got an idea....
How bout what a great job President Trump is doing so far in his 2nd term? It's been something to see a President actually follow through on his campaign promises.
Now let's start up the crazy!
YOU just did. Congrats?
On the Golf of America.
On the Department of Greedy Elites.
On supporting dictators and their regimes.
On un elected billionaires, of which, I’m guessing, you’re Not one?
On filling a cabinet with “people I like from tv”.
On flipping a stable world wide economy? Then flipping it back. Then back again. And again….
On making Donald Trump wealthier?
Are those some of the campaign promises you speak of?
Enjoy your parade!
Btw: just like none of this is a surprise to anyone who’s been paying attention, Neither was playing “My Boy”.
Yule figure it out.
The orange menace and his murderous gang of thugs is causing lots of unnecessary suffering and deaths among people around the world. It's too bad we can't just talk about Neil's songs and performance from this recent show. But the follower (as Neil calls them) have to make ignorant posts on this website, which distracts us from focusing on the music that Neil played last night.
Nice setlist :)
Yes, very nice, indeed :)
This seems like a long set list! It got me to listen to Old Ways.
I'll keep this short and tart. Keeping promises doesn't matter when they were mostly shitty promises in the first place.
Mercifully, the new song (Talkin' to the Trees) is helping keep my blood pressure where it belongs. Too bad it can't do the same for egg prices. Maybe if we all took advice from the trees about when to wake up, when to go to sleep, and so on, we'd all be happier. And yes, I do wish everyone happiness, even when I don't feel like mincing works. I'll add that happiness, in the long term, doesn't usually come from deceiving oneself or others.
Love Art Blues. Now there's a rare song that I'm always down to hear Neil play.
I was just about to mention Love Art Blues. Nice long set list of mostly fan favorites. Surprised he didn’t do one of the new songs from the upcoming album, but maybe he’s saving those for the UK tour.
@Richie Cruz - Grow up, man. Coming online just to talk trash. Hey, wait a minute...that sounds exactly like your idol! You and the other followers will forever be on the wrong side of history. Be ashamed.

I like what you are saying in response but @wsanjose1 Biden was actually murderous or clueless to US policy towards Gaza Genocide. He was handing weapons to Israel as fast as they could kill the Palestinians which is pretty fast. There are at least 55k dead Palestinians so far, mostly women & children.
The 2 million people in Gaza are being now evicted by the IDF. They say “move on” by cutting people down with machine gun fire & bombs & missles.
The Holocaust happened. And Gaza Genocide is also real. Not like Trumps’s fantasy video of “white farmer genocide” in SA, which used footage from Congo.
Trump is a mean racist idiot. He never fails to burn a bridge. Allies of 80 years cast aside. He fucks over Canada and later realizes he needs Canada for his Golden Done missle interception idea. It had to be Gold.
Trump is a golf cheater, money grifter. Mob gaslighting Liar wanna-be Dick-Tater.
The Democrats also work for the 1%. Do not fool yourselves. But Trump has got to go.
Your Brother Alan in Seattle
Nice setlist
“Golden Dome” needs Canada!
Responding to stupid comments such as Richie Cruz's is exactly what he wants. Trump and his morons want to divide and conquer us by my making us argue amongst ourselves, as it diverts us from the real issues, i.e. Trump's criminality and ineptitude. Best not to give oxygen to these morons by acknowledging them, best just to stick to Neil related posts, hopefully then they'll get bored and go elsewhere to post their nonsense.
Nice setlist
Great setlist!
Decent setlist, wouldn't call it great. A couple of good nuggets mixed in with the usual.
As far as the other stuff goes, I think I made my point....
Neil Young wears a shirt that says Earth on it. He is in the media now as speaking defiantly to Trump along with Bruce Springsteen. So “Neil Young related” can be a huge topic. He is an Environmental Activist. His songs cover these topics as well.
Ya, but you do make a good point about feeding trolls.
Your Brother Alan in Seattle
I really do like the new song. The second listening was when it came totally in focus for me. It's one of those airy songs that can seem meandering, or unfocused, on the surface. Underneath the loose, stream-of-consciousness words, there's a definite point and meaning.
Generally, a song worth listening to once is worth listening to more than once. Thinking about how to connect the dots between this track and Let's Roll Again, there are many directions this album might go.
The set list, though it's bringing together songs from across the years, suggests a strong Homegrown/Old Homestead vibe--the kind of setting where Lost in Space or Misfits would not be out of place.
Wonder if "Love and Only Love" was on acoustic or electric guitar or piano? He has played that a lot but only seven times on acoustic out of 332 time per Sugar Mtn.
Now, I thought Neil & Bruce were kind of trolling at first but then I saw this and honestly couldn't believe it. I saw the story but then I tracked it down going from the station to the story. It appears legit to me. https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2025/05/24/im-not-criminal-australian-woman-recounts-detention-experience-while-trying-visit-us-military-spouse-hawaii/?fbclid=IwY2xjawKgbfVleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFrM3hJWXFNUk1haGFORWR2AR581DV-R_fNaQfXMMKYZ5Ujx5xz2nLbs3Nl61zl_d8vjAftfyOkc6WUCyq9JQ_aem_006V3HgRi5VadQ0hZsIMQw
Sugar Mtn said it was done on 12-string acoustic. I believe the only other acoustic versions were from Bridge School shows.
I would like to let everyone know I'm here that after all the years that I have enjoyed this website I'm contemplating not coming back. The supporters of fascism have practically ruined this website. And then people have to get on including myself and feel like they need to try to support democracy and stop the orange madman. My favorite part about this website is reading other people's comments concerning Neil Young's music. I understand if we want to get into long political discourse if the post is relevant to that topic. However it just keeps going back and forth between the stupid Nazis and us people who are trying to defend democracy. Honestly I would like to go here to talk and read post about the music. 95% of all the post now are not about Neil's Music
Stop calling people who think differently politically than you do fascists and Nazis, that's the first step, my friend.
People nowadays seem to have forgotten who the Nazis actually were, and the actions they actually did. Now, in their hatred of other ways of thinking, they just throw that word around like it's nothing. It's hurtful to be called a Nazi because I'm not a Progressive Democrat tribe member.
Don't forget Love, kids.
Yes, you are a supporter of a mad man who will cause millions of people to suffer and die. What else could you be? Goodbye thrashers wheat
Richie Cruz, you have every right to call out anyone who calls you a Nazi, but I don't really think you can take the moral high ground here and not expect some come back given that you started this! And as for your original comment about Trump making good on his campaign promises didn't he say he would end the war in Ukraine on his first day in office?.....and rider, I too have about run my course with this site.
FYI : READ FIRST BEFORE COMMENTING :
We are proudly patriotic liberals who love America despite its obvious flaws. We aren't going to change our worldview for followers, likes, or anything else. If you find what we post here not to your liking, you are more than welcome to start your own site with your own ideology.
If you disagree with this, you may wish to cease listening to Americana Music, as the vast majority are liberals. Many Americana musicians have been known for their liberal political views and activism. Some notable artists include:
- Johnny Cash – Advocated for prison reform and Native American rights.
- Willie Nelson – A longtime supporter of marijuana legalization and progressive causes.
- Sheryl Crow – Uses her platform to promote environmental awareness and sustainability.
- Sturgill Simpson – Criticizes the country music establishment and advocates for change.
- Nikki Lane incorporates feminist themes into her songwriting.
- Taylor Swift has spoken out on LGBTQ+ rights and voter participation.
- Faith Hill & Tim McGraw – Have publicly supported gun control measures. Others include Jason Isbell, Robert Plant, Neil Young, and Bruce Springsteen. We could keep going, but at this point, we rest our case.

I think the level of frustration in these comments speaks for itself, regarding the problems with this space as a forum for communication. Occasionally, there's a perilously thin line between name-calling and simply accurate description. My intention (and, I think, the intention of others here) isn't personal attack. If anything, I try to make a point about political ideas (ideology) and their real world consequences. Still if someone perceives what I say as an inflammatory personal insult, that's obviously going to influence the direction of the conversation.
In order to confront and work through problems like fascism, we have to be able to name them. Although I value kindness quite highly, I do think people sometimes struggle to distinguish plainspoken honesty from incivility. My suggestion, for anyone and everyone, is to stay emotionally aware yet balanced. A measured response is harder to dismiss out of hand, and there's some truth to the notion that you'll catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
For those who have spoken about leaving this site, I urge you to reconsider. We are living during a very difficult time, and there is much division. This country is experiencing a crisis, and we need to find ways to deal with the struggles and fear that many of us are experiencing.
If we stop engaging with each other then we will simply grow farther apart, and that is the opposite of what needs to happen.
Yes, this is a Neil Young appreciation site, and that is at least one thing we can all share in common. And Neil has always been an activist for change. Don’t let the current predicament we are facing separate us from each other.
Peace🙏
As so often Dan finds the right words.
As much as I would love it if this site could just be about Neil and his music, there is so much happening in the world right now that is so important and can't be ignored completely. Neil is not ignoring it and I don't think we should do either.
It doesn't mean we can't have more comments and conversations about the music as well though. I would encourage people who don't regularly post or have never posted a comment to do so. Last time I looked there's only been one comment about the just released Talkin to the Trees for example.
Less than a month until the tour starts!
I have considered moving on from this site as well. The fascism-apologist comments can be quite galling. But it’s ultimately unreasonable to expect a Neil Young discussion without the politics. And we are living in a highly political era. I’d prefer a greater percentage of music talk on here, but we do still get a bit, and from some insightful contributors that make it worthwhile. So I can bear the often polarized debate: par for the course.
What just about pushed me over the edge recently though was the proprietor’s outrageous defense of obvious white supremacist Musk. Dudes, sometimes a salute is just a salute. No matter how much gaslighting and trolling is done after the fact, this was a clear dogwhistle to the worst of the world’s factions. We’re talking about a guy who was born into power in apartheid South Africa, showing his true colors. And now Trump has granted amnesty through refugee status to Afrikaners, supporting the “white genocide” argument. These men, and the atrocious policies they represent, are indefensible. Why should any of us remain on a platform that blithely allows them a pass?
Now how about that music? Much has been made of the solo setlist from last week’s benefit. The big-ticket crowd heard, among the usual classics (and Love Earth, ha), a handful of deep cuts. Of course, My Boy is the touching ode to Neil’s eldest which he alluded to in his post with the photo of him and Zeke with his own dad, Scott. And then there’s Love/Art Blues, the Archives II mainstay little ditty that’s always welcome onstage as far as I’m concerned. A 12-string acoustic version of Love And Only Love is worth mentioning too! The real gem though is Name Of Love, which everyone calls a CSNY tune but I think of as the closing track of Summer Songs (original 12/25/21 order). Now that’s a tune I’d love to see carried over to this summer’s tour, preferably remaining a solo rendition. Any other rarities y’all’d like to hear him play with or without the Chrome Hearts next month?
Tomatron, I would like to hear Misfits. When and where has Neil played this song live? I would love to Razor Love, Bandit, and Without Rings. I did have a lot of hope for the new song Talkin to Trees but it seems aimless. It feels to me as if Neil wrote the lyrics without a really solid idea (or ideas) in mind. I was not moved much by the melody, I did not feel anything. I went to Vacancy for a strong shot of Neilness.
Thanks Dan.
A timely suggestion. Hopefully the dialogs here are doing more good than harm. As you say, once the talking stops, the shooting starts. Many are hell bent on making this go hot and kinetic. As someone casually dropped on us long ago, "TW [NY] is like a flower stuck in the gun barrel of the MIC".
From the "proprietors" perspective, one of the many lessons we've learned over the years, is that if you don't have the time or patience to be crystal clear, don't even bother.
As much as we would love for every post to be carefully crafted down the last syllable and every comment carefully considered from every angle, we just can't.
So clearly we've been quite careless here. Anyone who has known us and this site would be shocked to see these accusations leveled. In fact, we're kind of surprised by the level of blowback from regulars who presumably wouldn't be coming here year after year if this ideology is what the site supported.
Attempting to be clear here, but we have made a concerted effort in recent years to stick as much as we can to the "Neil facts". As in, quote the man directly and abstain from editorializing. Again, broke the rule on this post.
At the moment, we continue to work on the long overdue re-launch of TW in what very little spare time we have.
As we head to the summer tour and Farm Aid 40, we're already considering 2026. 2026 will be the 30th anniversary of TW. Our plan is to make it to 2026 and operationalize the re-launch to sustain TW well into the future.
peace
@Thrasher:
We humans are imperfect beings, and none of us are capable of perfection. Yet so many of us are constantly striving for something that we know is unattainable. Self deception?? Perhaps.
What you have created here is not only unique, but imperative to free speech. Unfortunately free speech can be messy sometimes, and that usually leads to misunderstandings.
Perhaps the biggest problem with free speech is that sometimes we are so convinced by our opinions that we forget to listen.
My hope is that those who are feeling like they should leave here will reconsider, and stay the course. We all want to be heard, yet we are living through a situation where everyone is speaking over each other. That makes listening more difficult, and misunderstandings more common.
As I mentioned earlier today, we all share one thing in common, and that creates the foundation for productive conversations. We will get through this, but we need to get through it together.
Peace 🙏

From the new album I’d like to hear Big Change live. That song rips. While TTTT title track doesn’t make for a great single, I expect it eases in nicely as an album track, a peaceful respite from the heavy energy of the songs that precede it. He seems to be doing something different with that song. It has no narrative or chorus; the melody is minimal. It exists only to express a present moment. Neil’s lyrical method of late, to capture the idea as it comes without further refinement, is used to full effect to provide a glimpse of his thoughts, one minute of a day in the life. Aficionados of his classic work crave the figurative language that elevates much of his 70s songcraft; it’s still there, but it lives between the lines now. Some have called TTTT bland. I think plain is a better descriptor. The song reminds me of the plain art tradition of American folk art, capturing the honest essence of a restful moment. A picture of peace.
