It's amazing to me that Neil's copy of the song isn't much better than the bootleg. But that makes him one of us, doesn't it?

Takes is shaping up to be a real Lucky Thirteen II, isn’t it? Quite the eclectic set. But the first two volumes dipped nowhere near as lo-fi as some of these choice samplings! Have recent NYA excursions into bootleg territory pointed the Volume Dealers in that cassette-ready direction?
The less than optimal sound quality doesn’t affect the beauty of this song at all. It’s always special to hear Nicolette and Neil singing together. A perfect blend, and a beautiful song.

Agreed, Dan, it’s a great song. I don’t mind the varying fidelities of audio. Not only do we get more tunes this way, but the tonal artifact adds to the atmosphere of the performance. With the simultaneous availability of Takes on vinyl and the full Vol. III set, Lady Wingshot will have two contexts in which to exist. The sampler album bounces us from one setting to the next, careening between sounds, breakneck across a decade. And then on the Union Hall disc of NYA III, the song will be at home among its setlist of like-minded tracks, unified by a band and a moment shared in common. My plan at this time is that I will pick up my copy of the double LP and run through that a time or two before diving deeper into the greater expanse of discography released on that same day. I’m grateful for the opportunity for a turntable version of the Takes experience many have already been enjoying!
@Tomatron : I too have ordered the double disc of Takes on vinyl. I always purchase anything Neil releases on vinyl, because the vast majority of my life I have been listening to music on vinyl. And frankly, Neil Young always sounds better on vinyl. Truth be told though, I buy everything on CD as well for those times when I play music while busy doing other things……I know….it’s obviously a serious problem. 🤯

“I got a problem…” (a vinyl problem)
Question for those with the Takes CD: is Hitchhiker the same take/mix from the album of the same name? On the WB sales site it’s still called Hitchhikin’ Judy (then again, Thrasher is listed as Trasher, which, uh, RUDE) and on NYA’s Takes, the song no longer links to the 2017 album. Nor does Last Of His Kind though link to the exclusive Summer Songs anymore, so they’re probably just different masters. Like what they did with the Chrome Dreams tracks. Anyway, just curious for those who have Takes and Hitchhiker both, how do the versions compare?
Lady Wingshot has a strong feeling of tension and release moving between the verses and the chorus/refrain. I think it's a basic dynamic in most kinds of art through contrasts of color, tone or whatever else. This could be instinctive rather than conscious artistic choice.
I don't know enough to explain technically, but it can be especially potent in music because the sound and vibrations move through your body. It's a physiological experience one can only try to describe in words.

It was a fun view. Pretty long for an unboxing. The barking dog was a nice touch. The Archives posters are always cool. He almost forgot Snapshot In Time. Then he did forget Touch The Night. He leafed through the book but didn’t show the last pages, so it does look like the tape record isn’t included this time. I’m excited for the material that will land on the NYA site next week and am Wonderin’ which unreleased films will be available first!
