He played Ohio! ✊ https://www.nola.com/gambit/events/jazz_fest/jazz-fest-2024-recap-day-seven-queen-latifah-neil-young-cap-day-of-living-legends/article_a3db1408-0a8c-11ef-94fd-d362e0760039.html

Sounds like a rock-solid show. All the classics! Such a “greatest hits” offering is not unusual for a festival show, but I’ve been surprised at the setlist reports coming from the tour so far. Let’s be clear, I wouldn’t be opposed to ANY selection of tunes at a Neil Young concert. He could probably do Heart Of Gold 12 times in a row and I’d walk out saying, “Genius.” But there was so much excitement over bringing out the deep cuts last year, on his part as well as on ours. It sounds like Danger Bird has been the most obscure tune they’ve played this year. Given its place on the Harvest LP, even Words wouldn’t be too out there, and he said they’d be running that one per Ralphie’s request, but it has yet to be debuted on the “Love Earth” tour.

Neil and the Horse have released THREE records of new material together in the past 5 years. He teased Chevrolet in “Waiting For The Horse,” but nothing more recent than Scattered has been played. Have they ever not toured an album? Last year’s Love Earth singalong and solo Don’t Forget Love were absolutely brilliant. When the boys swing back around to Texas, I do hope they mix it up a bit. As it stands, this is starting to feel like a farewell tour. If that turns out to be the case, then I only hope I get to hear that new full version of Cortez in person!

Considering the anniversary of Kent State, I’m not surprised they played Ohio. It has been a very long time since I last experienced The Horse in concert, so I’m looking forward to July 28th. Whatever they decide to play is okay with me. Just getting to see a show is quite the privilege. After all, none of us are getting any younger.

Peace 🙏

I am not surprised Neil did Ohio. He is a thoughtful Artist with his set lists and anniversaries, locations. Ohio is still relevant and deeply moving, & he has been playing it through the years. Alabama is next!

Speaking of 4 dead in Ohio: Protest gets quashed by the soldiers, police. Free speech is just Words. Try engaging in it & they bring the hammer down. We talk about Freedom but how much do we really have? When it comes to the Gaza Genocide, the MSM will spin & gas-light us for as long as it takes. Divide / distract & conquer. But a Big Shift is coming, a time when Love will defeat Hate, and Peace will wipe out War.

I don’t like to think about farewell tours for Neil Young. I have been paying attention to his music for so many decades now, seeing his live shows as often as I can…. I want to keep on enjoying his live shows. NYA concerts on the timeline & his numerous live albums promise a permanent state of our favorite music artist’s live gigs. I can go hang out in 1971 for as long as I want. We can take a Journey through the Past in Archived live music. I missed too many tours & Neil years up to 1988, but I can still witness the great shows from recordings & videos.

Thrasher has said this blog is all about the live music experience. I love that & his passion for live music. I love this blog so much & I like to challenge the notion that its focus is live NY shows. With a tour in progress, it’s not an issue. But I insist on stating that I feel TW is about a lot more than just current Neil live music. There are 1001 topics Thrasher has posted about, probably more!

@ Dan : July looms large as we anticipate one more ride with Neil & the Horse! I am thrilled, excited, and grateful!

Dan, Neil, Thrasher, and you all: Long May You Run!

I was at New Orleans, Neil said during the set that most of the songs they were playing were from records produced by David Briggs, he said they were very special to him and the band because Briggs was so special to them.
It was a great set I thought, he cut out the solo section they’ve been doing, Ohio was the only solo song. The set was about 1 hour 20 minutes. The longest song was Down By the River at 12 minutes 15 seconds.
Neil seemed to be in a good mood and I think he was happy with the set overall, although he commented “Nothing is under control!” after Don’t cry no tears because there were a couple of tough moments during the song, but it wasn’t really too noticeable.

I was in New Orleans. His comments about Briggs were revealing. He talked about him before he played Scattered, alluding to the fact that it was recorded in the first sessions after Briggs died. I realized at that point that the song was ABOUT Briggs. "Like a comet, Painted on the sky. Like an old soul, Over Darkness you'll fly." It was a very good set. I've never heard the crowd singing most of the songs before, which they were doing here. Maybe Heart Of Gold or Old Man, but this crowd was singing almost everything.

About a farewell tour: I doubt that, however, both Billy and Ralph turn 81 this year. So not sure if Crazy Horse tour again. Of course the Stones still tour and they're more ancient than that, so who knows?

Does anybody know why the Indigenous Person Statue is not on stage for this tour?

Does anyone know if the set on the current tour is from the Solo Trans tour in 1983? I know I've seen that set before just can't remember where or when. Peace and Love!
