So, why is Ragged Glory by Neil Young w/ Crazy Horse "The Perfect Summer Album Soundtrack"?
We'll get to that essential question in a moment, but 1st ....
Official Release Series # 5 (Vinyl Box Set) is now out with four classic albums: FREEDOM (1989), RAGGED GLORY (1990), WELD (1991), and ARC (1991).
Rustie fans are especially excited about that "The Perfect Summer Album Soundtrack" Ragged Glory and the rare B-side “Smell The Horse” Edition with 4 tracks. “Interstate” and
“Don’t Spook The Horse” were both b-sides to singles. “Box Car” and the
12 minute “Born To Run” are both previously unreleased versions. The 4
additional songs have resulted with the album expanded to 3 LPs and 2
CDs.
Back in 2018, Neil Young announced that a new, extended Ragged Glory edition will be titled ‘smell the horse,’ with four added tracks.
Subsequently, we learned that Ragged Glory II, will be a the double album, released as a stand alone LP in vinyl, CD and High resolution digital.
"We are presenting this in all analog for the first time, remastered from original analog 2 tracks under the loving care of John Hanlon. John has wanted to do this for years and now it’s here, coming in triple vinyl and remastered for CD and Hi Res from the original analog mixes. This will most definitely be the greatest version of this record ever made."

Well, apparently Neil Young's 1990 release Ragged Glory defines the sound of summer according to a Crawdaddy! article by Andres Jauregui:
"Based on its steady beat and Neil’s undeniable guitar work, this album’s potential as a summer soundtrack rode high on the first listen. But there were a few things beyond that foundation that truly established it for me. One was its sense of freedom: Good ‘ol ‘Merican open-aired, big-sky freedom."

Hello and thanks for all you do.
I don't know if it's just my bad luck or a pressing problem, but the second disc of Ragged Glory in my new box set is badly marked up on both sides.
So I thought I'd:
a.) alert you in case this is a widespread problem, and
b.) ask if you'd have any idea how to get a replacement disc out of Warners. Seems a shame to return the whole thing, but I'm certainly not living with it.
I elected not to add attachments but I can send photos if you like.

Well, that's a real bummer. Sorry to hear.
We'd suggest sending a note on NYA on issue. NYA tends to be pretty good on responding. May take a few tries but eventually they make it whole w/ rusties.

I dont know whether its a perfect summer album or not but that's what I know this record is a f#*ckin good album
@ Dionys : Good re-write of “Plastic The Killer!” The humans will leave Earth and her critters alone in the future, when the humans are extinct, perhaps. Maybe the young people will demand that the Pipelines be shut down and fossil fuel use curtailed. Too little too late from Politicians and mankind. Man is not very kind. Gaia’s Revenge is gonna be Hell on Earth! This fire is just getting started. Heat. Drought. Massive die-offs. Extinction of Earth’s magnificent creatures. Not Gaia’s fault, she being the SuperOrganism known as Earth, as theorized by James Lovelock, 1962, England, RIP last year on 103rd Birthday. Mother Earth lost a hero. Too bad Big Oil & US didn’t get to work on preventing this slow moving Catastrophe. Now we live on a “dying planet.”
Ragged Glory was the 1st Neil Young album I bought on release date, the start of a long tradition. I got interested in his music in ‘88 with the Bluenotes band later to be referred to as “Blue Note Cafe” due to that name being owned by a different band not connected to NY. on the fantastic double live album. I no longer buy every release from NY because there are so many & I get to hear it all on NYA anyway, when I want to. I still buy the “classic stuff” / most everything he puts out.
Only 2 unreleased songs for me in RG2 (because I already had singles with Don’t Spook the Horse (Mansion on the Hill single) & Interstate (Big Time single). And there is an extended version of one song (Over and Over Again?).
2 new / alternate songs for me study : Born To Run & spooky Box Car version. I look forward to listening more.
I bought 4 or 5 LP’s from Greedy Hand and had bad luck: My LP’s covers are falling apart. I had to Re-glue Time Fades Away to live with it. I am no longer interested in buying vinyl from Neil. I have the Ditch Trilogy and a few others. I have the Trans LP minus the song “If You’ve Got Love.” That song is positive but weak, IMHO. No wonder he left it off the LP. The new live version Coastal Tour release will be better by far than the original studio with the synth anthem. God it was fun to catch that latest tour. And all the rest!

Sorry if my last post sounded grim, like Neil’s song Human Race… holy crap. The Heaviest song he ever put down. More Hard Core than Cocaine Eyes or any other song. Just devastating. Neil, the Artist, had to feel that to create it. The song erupts line sludge flowing and glowing burning Red. “Liquid Metal” Haha.

When I think of a summer album I imagine a free flowing, raucous, tuneful, and essentially fun album. I mean, Ragged Glory is not a dark record. On the Beach belongs in deep November. Tonights the Night is late February when there are snow piles and ice on the side of the road, with ominous clouds and a northeasterly. Fuckin Up is edgy but also funny. Farmer John straight up rock and roll trash. Country Home is bright and loud. These are songs for a road trip with the rag top down. A summer evening at the beach (not on the beach). The album seems to me to be a celebration of the basic sound that Neil and the Horse created. It is an "essence" album, the essence of their sound triumphs over any song. Frankly, I was never as enamored with the long songs as I am with the shorter workouts.
After the Gold Rush is a winter album. I need to be brief: we are clearly missing something if we fail to link various works of art with the mood of seasons. The seasons are our spiritual signposts. Losing their significance in the meaning of life is a grave risk.
