David Crosby and The Damage Done (or Not...)
David Crosby -- yet again -- finds himself in serious blowback over some ill considered remarks. (Thanks Richie C.!)

The fallout has not been kind to David Crosby.
So, the following is an attempt not to re-hash ad infinitum the never ending controversies of CSN & Neil Young , but to simply share something that we were unaware of completely.
Check this clip from 1967 Monterey Pop Festival of The Byrds.

In the above clip, David Crosby makes a very brief statement about the John F. Kennedy assassination and then plays the Byrds song "He Was a Friend of Mine".
David Crosby: “They’re shooting this for television.
I’m sure they’re going to edit this out. I want to say it anyway, even though they will edit it out. When President Kennedy was killed, he was not killed by one man. He was shot from a number of different directions, by different guns.
The story has been suppressed, witnesses have been killed, and this is your country, ladies and gentlemen.”

David Crosby: “Thank you. As I say, they will censor it I’m sure. They can’t afford to have things like that on the air. It’d blow their image.”
Due to Crosby’s controversial statement about the JFK assassination, the Byrds' Monterey performance was cut from television and film coverage of the festival. It was this incident and similar circumstances which led to Crosby leaving the Byrds and eventually forming CSN.
But... history has proven that Crosby was right back in 1967 about the JFK assassination, as we know now.
It was -- as Bob Dylan put it recently -- a "Murder Most Foul".

Rude. It’s not even that weird of a portrait. Makes for great promotion for the artist though! They will be making some sales for sure now.
Anyone put in their pre-orders for Eldorado vinyl? I’m sure there are some here who did not opt for the Official Release set. I would have ordered Eldorado, had it been announced some weeks earlier. But when I was in France last month I scored a copy of the original vinyl, so I’m good! Other than feeling about €40 lighter…
For being a self-professed Hippie, ol' Croz sure falls short on exhibiting the basic Hippie value of kindness.
Tomatron, you are exactly right, a pretty good little drawing. He should be grateful/graceful, but good luck with that, seething right under the surface of this guy is an intense competitive mess.
I almost wrote that Croz's response here was bizarre. Then, of course, it occurred to me that we're talking about Croz. Every other word out of his mouth is bizarre. Seriously, I can understand that the fan art phenomenon (aka strangers drawing pictures of you) is a little weird to begin with, especially if you're not in tune with social media culture. But someone in the public eye--who seemingly wants to be in the public--ought to have more tact and situational awareness.
The person clearly didn't post their work for critique or workshopping, and if you can't do constructive critique without being rude, you probably aren't an expert in that particular field.
Am I overthinking this? Quite possibly. I guess I have a hard time fathoming that anyone would be so inconsiderate for no reason.
I think everyone who has ever been close to David Crosby has at some point come to the conclusion that he's basically a jerk. A really talented artist, but still a jerk. IMHumbleO. BTW, I think Long Time Gone and Almost Cut my hair are fucking killer songs. I keep trying to nail them solo acoustic but can't reconcile the guitar rhythm and the vocals. I keep trying though.

Yes, he may be a jerk. But trying to re-write history is a worse sin in our view.
What Crosby said @ Monterey has been horribly misrepresented. This was 1st time we had seen the whole Monterey clip in full.
He makes essentially 2 statements in 4 brief sentences before playing song. There is no crazy rant at all as you can see.

Thrasher is clearly right- no rant and Crosby was essentially right.
I think the essential cause of Crosby's emotional and moral dysfunction is a desperate desire to be thought of in the same way as Neil, Bob, Joni and add to the list. Somehow, he just did not make it to that level, even if he has A level talent.

Again, we had heard these stories over the decade. But it wasn't until this week of seeing the uncut Monterrey footage of the whole segment start to finish, that we understood that DC had been horribly slandered over the decades.
it is somewhat ironic that theses sorts of "facts" emerge long after the damage done.
The point being that ultimately the TRUTH prevails despite what the cover uppers try.
TRUTH wins in the end ALWAYS. We have EVERYTHING. And it will ALL come out eventually.
This is way, way bigger than Crosby sticking his foot in his mouth. Everything happens for a reason and as more folks wake up (not WOKE up), the trend will rapidly accelerate.

On JFK, the sound evidence from the motorcycle policeman dict-a-belt has been discredited since it was published in the committee's report. I think even Blakely changed his tune, eventually. Conspiracy, maybe; second gunman, nope. Just my two cents from decades of reading, watching, and one visit to Dealey Plaza and the museum.

we firmly believe that one the greatest failures of Pres. Trump was the failure to release all of the secret files on JFK. He could have done it, but did not. Shame.

I am reminded of a couple of comments made by David Crosby in Cameron Crowe's 2019 documentary of him called Remember My Name.
Firstly he remarks that he is the only member of CSNY who has hasn't had a hit solo album, and relates this to why he is still recording and touring.
Secondly he comments that none of the people he was closest to musically (McGuinn, Neil, Nash and Stills) want anything to do with him any more. He is asked why he doesn't go round to Neil's and knock on his door and try to make up and says he doesn't know where Neil lives anymore.
My impression from it was he regrets a lot of what he has done and said - I found it quite sad to watch.
I'm with @Soids in being a big fan of Almost Cut My Hair and Long Time Gone, and think Crosby has a great voice. It's good too that he is still producing new music - I have been listening to it and quite enjoying. What's Broken from Croz got quite a lot of play from me when it came out.
@Ron, thanks for the bump. I never conflagergrate (not a real word) the art I love with the creator. I only wonder to the stars what the Creator saw in that creator, but not for long. Bathe yourself in the art and hope the artist has the chance to fill the stream again. On a side note: Dear @thrasher: keep on keeping on.

Richie- thinking back on some of our previous discussions that did not always end well. I recently got COVID- there is no more discussion of "break-through" infections. I felt pretty bad for two days. My doctor told me the vaccine and boosters most likely cut down on the duration of the illness. But no doubt we were fed info too quickly with not enough science and no one able to really predict the mutation rates of the virus. Basically, everyone I know has gotten COVID and those who are vaccinated are definitely getting sick (just not dying or going to the ICU).
@Abner, Late May/early June, we were sick for about a week, mild symptoms. I remember it was around the time first tracks from Toast dropped. At any rate, vaccinated and boosted, which I suspect kept it from being worse.
Effectiveness can vary depending on which shot(s) you got. Some permutations are statistically doing better than others. The other point that needs to be made is the virus itself continues to rapidly mutate. There are a dizzying number of variants, more popping up all the time, the general pattern being that new mutations get more contagious but less deadly. People are mostly getting sick now from variants that didn’t exist when the current vaccines were developed.
It’s not that vaccination doesn’t help. It just isn’t a magic elixir. Hell, we haven’t eliminated flu and there are new shots for that every year. However, it reflects sadly on the education system that some people get so tripped up on the concept that no vaccine is a guarantee.
All I can say is that before the vaccine came along, I honestly didn't know a single person who got Covid. Now, I know at least 15 family members or friends who got it in the last year, all of whom were vaccinated. Meanwhile, myself and about 5 other guys I know who never took the shot, and have not gotten sick once. Food for thought, I guess.

Common sense: the longer the virus is going around, the more people get it. Plus the mutations that make it are those beneficial to the spread of virus, so the newer strains tend to be more contagious. Vaccines are clearly not perfect, but I wonder of those who haven’t reported getting sick, how many are the type to ignore when they *do* get sick?
@Ian, Paul Erlich- The Evolution of Infectious Diseases- the tendency of natural selection should be, as you say, toward a more contagious mutation AND with LESS virulence. The advantages of contagious and less virulence seem obvious enough, more virulence sidelines those infected.
Unfortunately it doesn't always work out that way. But no advantage to the virus if it wipes out its host. (Incredibly virulent forms of cholera continued because so many people handled the waste of victims and so became victims, the bacteria happily moved around killing people.)
Anyone hear that polio is making small inroads. I have yet to understand what really amounts to a "religious objection" to vaccines. Polio might very well turn a person religious as they prey for life. This might resonate for Neil.....
I know that about 85% of the population are scared little sheep who are programmed to just automatically hate Trump, but is there anyone out there who thinks the world is better off with Joe Biden as President? And if so, can you provide some SPECIFIC examples of Biden's superiority over Trump as a President

Incidentally, “liberal democracy” is a term with a long history in political science. A few minutes of research would confirm the word liberal has many connotations and that its use as an insult is a relatively recent thing. Theorist types using words in a different way from what the average person might understand can be a real barrier to understanding.
Unfortunately, sometimes all it has takes to turn minds is a little flag-waving, sloganeering, or other forms of public spectacle. While I don’t think the current admin has been all most of us could hope for (and some of the reasons are beyond any one person’s control), it is kinda refreshing not having to wonder, on a weekly basis, which tinpot dictator our president is going to either cozy up with or goad into needless war next.

What I object to is the implication that anyone who doesn’t vote your way doesn’t care about US soldiers dying. It’s the definition of a cheap shot, designed to paint the other side in the worst possible light.

Can you tell me what “if that matters” from your previous comment is supposed to mean? To me, that reads like an implication that the reader may be callous enough not to care.
It means that most people who seem to hate Trump fall love to bring up that somehow he was gonna lead us into WW3, which never came close to happening while he was in office. I'd like to think that ANY President who presided over peace during his term MIGHT get a little credit for it. I find it refreshing when people can admit to being wrong once in awhile. Trump should get credit for having such a peaceful term, yet even today, 2 years after being out of office, you're talking about needless wars.
In that case, I apologize for misinterpreting. Not sure I'd call the Trump years entirely peaceful. No new wars--I take it that's what you meant. And that's a good thing. I'm just skeptical that Trump personally had much to do with it. A fact becomes a talking point when it's presented in isolation from any other context and used to make a political point.

All I'm saying is, always consider the source. People often choose to present certain facts in certain contexts for particular reasons.
