A Memory of Kurt Kasinoff: Neil Young's Guitar Tech
Here is a memory of Kurt Kasinoff -- Neil Young's Guitar Tech -- who recently passed away after a long illness.
From post Kurt Kasinoff: 19xx - 2022 by Ethan:
hey, heres a story.
Crazy Horse tour Alchemy - 2013 I guess, went up to cleveland saw the show, next day was my hometown show in pittsburgh. when I got back from cleveland I took my dog Otis and went up to hang out by the venue in the afternoon, hoping to catch soundcheck.
We followed some road eyes inside and Otis and I were hanging out, he was a golden doodle and a great dog man. Looked a lot like the pooch in the recent vids from Barn.. anyway Kurt came by to pet my dog, and I recognized him and I said, hey, Otis wants his picture taken with Old Black.
He said come on and took me onstage behind Neil's side I swear man that thing was vibrating on the bench I was so freaked out to be close to it. He picked up old black in one hand and had Otis's leash in the other, and I went to take the pic..
My phone battery was dead! I said, dude, you're not gonna believe this but my phone just died. he looked at me like, ok whats up with this guy.. there was no way he was gonna hand me old black! So he handed me his phone, I took the pic and he sent it to me... He made a day to remember for an old head and a life time fan.
Thrasher, thanks for liking my tale! I have been following the site for years and it's fun to participate.
Here is the photo of Otis and Old Black, which I took with Kurt's phone. Unfortunately I didn't get his face in there, but you can see the telltale scarf :)
Also attaching a picture of a much younger me with the big O in the venue before soundcheck with the live rust set behind us.
I am sorry to hear this sad news. But I wanted to share this tale.
All the best,
Ethan

Great story!! Old Black is alive!!! It speaks!! There is a horror movie in this!!
Very nice story about a good guy (love the dog part as well): everyone with a soul loves dogs. Trump, as is well known, strongly dislikes dogs and uses the word "dog" in his incredibly failed rhetoric- "he ran, like a dog," and so on.
"everyone with a soul loves dogs" I like to think everyone has a soul, and actually some people like dogs and some don't. Doesn't make them good or bad people either way.
Truthfully, I don't think there are any such things as "souls"- it is a manner of speaking. Human beings are complex bodies. "Soul" here means "good spirited" or something similar.- I stand by my claim about dogs and persons.

There’s a sneak preview from the Archives vol3 set on the front page of the times contrarian:
A 17 min version of Sixty to Zero!!!!
Incredible stuff - CANNOT WAIT FOR VOL3
Abner - "I stand by my claim about dogs and persons".
I am sure you do. Says more about you than it does about anyone else.
Anyway back to the music - Campaigner is one of my favourite Neil tracks and the video of the Crazy Horse performance that was on NYA a few months back was just awesome.
Ron, yes I am a rotten person, no doubt.
Can you say "grain of salt"?
ok, we'll just say that what goes on here is noticed elsewhere.
So in Kurt's honor and memory, let's all try and demonstrate the true rustie values and spirit here on TW comments.
thank you
that is all.
peace
sorry Thrasher, I got carried away with the dog thing.
In the book I am reading about Trump ("The Big Cheat"), there are multiple anecdotes about his dislike for dogs. This created some enthusiasm on my part, but it was mainly meant as humor.
Ron, peace.
no worries Abner. none whasoever.
seriously, who doesn't like dogs and guitars humor?!
@ Ron - Campaigner is definitely a classic. A classic in that it is updated every 4/8 years with the latest president.
a bit of a different twist on the over-used "classic" which kind of elevates Campaigner.

Apologies Thrasher - I should have just bit my tongue so to speak. Especially given the nature of the original post. No disrespect to Kurt's memory was intended. I should have listened to Neil - Don't Forget Love.
Bait!! Warning bait!!
Jonathan, you have no idea how much laughter your comment just caused. I am with a group of other "pseudo-intellectuals" and this is really good. High quality.
