Yet Even More New & Old Neil Young Still To Come
In the latest batch of Letters To Editor on Archives site, Neil Young responds to various queries and throws out lots of tantalizing tidbits of sonic treats. (Thanks Phil!)
Here's what we already know for upcoming releases:
- Way Down in Rust Bucket - February
- Young Shakespeare - March
- Eldorado (Re-issue of overseas EP) - May
- Alchemy - October
So that makes for roughly 20 audio disc releases over a ~16 month period*. You would have to go back to 2009's "deluge of 16* Neil Young discs" to compare.
Also, from LTE's:
- Johnny's Island: finished with 7 unreleased tracks + the 3 Trans acoustic,
- Ragged Glory Extended
- + 4 more tracks
- EARLY DAZE (unreleased Crazy Horse) - coming in '22
- NYA Volume #3 - coming in 2022 w/ "Barefoot Floors"
- CSNY 70 / 71 Fillmore East - coming in 2022 w/ 4 camera video of CSNY
- Landing On Water - coming in high resolution
- Buffalo Springfield Boxset - coming in high resolution @ 24bit/88.2khz.
Also the following tracks suggested by James in Kansas are coming in unreleased records and/or outtakes:
- Sea Of Madness (rough with CSNY Sept 2–3 1969)
- Everybody's Alone (with CSNY)
- Long May You Run (CSNY mix from original pressing of Decade)
- Wonderin' (from Tonight's The Night sessions)
- New Mama (from Time Fades Away studio sessions)
- Sedan Delivery (from Zuma sessions)
- Hold Back The Tears (1975–1976 period, different intro than released version on American Stars n' Bars)
- Sample And Hold (original LP mix)
- If You Got Love (version listed but left off Trans)
- Rainin' In Paradise (Islands In The Sun / Trans outtake)
- For The Love Of Man (1980s outtake)
- Box Car (Times Square / Eldorado / Freedom outtake)
- Interstate (1985 with International Harvesters)
- Interstate (1990 acoustic with Crazy Horse, Ragged Glory outtake later released on Big Time single and LP pressings of Broken Arrow)
- Philadelphia (from the Motion Picture Soundtrack)
- Ode To Wild Bill / Home On The Range / Buffalo Stomp (from Where The Buffalo Roam soundtrack LP)
- Theme From Dead Man (from a promo CD for the Dead Man album)
Despite what many might think, we are really very lucky and blessed to be alive during our historic "The Times".
Recall, how back in 2009, we posted "Neil Young's 17th CD* Release of Year "Dreamin' Man" Pushed Back"? Looks like 2020 was a runner up. (Thanks John A.!)
But -- as everybody knows -- numbers add up to nothin'! (* disc /=/ release)
So, why do "We Sing This Song Because We Love The Man" ?

All these outtakes listed above being added to all the recent additions to the File Cabinet is absolutely astonishing. For those who have yet to subscribe to NYA should not hesitate. Even if the subscription price doubles, it would still be the bargain of the century. The gold just keeps multiplying, and Neil has set the standard for every other artist to follow his glowing example. It is indeed a time to rejoice and be grateful.
Peace 🙏
Not to mention the retail version of Archives Vol II’s imminent arrival!
Don't forget six Official Bootleg releases coming in May!!
And Road Of Plenty with the 20' sixty to zero... I have counted 17 releases in 2021 in NYA different chapters. As already said I will be happy with the third of them. But I am really surprised by the released date announced by Neil for Alchemy. Does it mean Reprise has a plan for 2021 ??? It's exciting. And I understand the amount of money for the fans. But the archives site is still not expensive and gives access at almost all recordings...
Awesome stuff on the way! Volumes abounding! I could not be happier with my $20/year NYA membership. So many reasons for us Neil Young fans to rejoice, as Dan Swan said. We didn't need to wait for the afterlife, after all.
As for buying all of the hard copy product, as Alfred E. Newman said, "What, me worry?"
To quote the mediocre painter George W. Bush, "Bring 'em on!"

Note to Dan Swan, My rediscovery of reasons to appreciate the Grateful Dead continues. I already had a large collection of their music and live shows but had kind of written them off. I am happy to say that I am Grateful for the Dead today.
I have been known to take large breaks from listening to certain bands (and later being in awe as I began rediscovering their catalogue (Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix). But I have never walked away from Neil Young music for 32+ years. And with all of the wildly diverse albums, videos, and songs on the way in the upcoming years, I'll never need to. Who needs a break when you've got 31 flavors of our favorite shape shifter's stupefying back catalogue and mounds of unreleased treasure rising up like a wave, about to break on my senses. Boundless joy, as a music fan, as a Neil Young fanatic, and sonic sponge.

I am listening to Barefoot Floors over and over again. Wow. What a freakin' excellent and amazing song! That and Homefires and Come Along And Say You Will are my tops from the unreleased stuff. That and some Zuma stuff and some very early stuff. Mynah Birds! The Mother Lode just keeps on rolling home. Thanks a lot Neil! Life is good! Alan in Seattle
The flood continues... NY has again published a series of letters and responses.
Thus, the ORS #5 box is expected to be released on August 6, 2021, including Ragged Glory Extended.
More and more information is provided for Archives 3 (scheduled for 2022 or... sooner). I have noted that they will include at least :
- Ocean Side Country Side
- Disc 3 : A Snapshot In Time (a documentary with rehearsals of Stars 'n Bars songs before going into studio)
- Disc 4: Give To The Wind including rehearsals of the 1977 concert
- Johnny's Island unreleased album
- Berlin movie
- Trans animated
- Catalyst with CH, Feb 1984
We should also see a concert with Booker T soon on NYA (probably from 2002).
And finally, he announces "the Bridge School Series"...
Wow.
@Alan and Dan I listened to Morning Dew (Europe '72 version) the other day after reading your comments and discussion. It's one that I keep coming back to. Garcia's soloing was burned into my hard drive long ago, especially the long, slow build part where the train just makes it to the top of the hill, then settles in for the ride home. First Dead song I ever heard live was Bertha, opening their set (over five hours!) at Watkins Glen. Still have the American Beauty LP that I listened to with Mom.

Consumer Tip: I bought Eldorado on CD in 1989 for $25, or $51 in today's money. Unless you are a Neil Young completest, or a sharp student of Neil's guitar notes, it is not worth it at that price.
Cocaine Eyes not on Freedom
Don't Cry Slightly longer than on Freedom
Heavy Love not on Freedom
On Broadway and Eldorado are the identical length as on Freedom, which leads me to believe they are the identical versions.
Summary: 2 repeats, a minute longer version of a Freedom cut, and 2 unreleased songs.
If, however, you are a completest, I would be happy to sell mine to you for far less than the CD or vinyl will cost whenever its released.
@NYBD11-12: I agree that releasing Eldorado EP as is doesn't make much sense. I thought NY would release Eldorado with a series of unreleased tracks from the time (60 to 0, Interstate...) in order to have a consistent album. But no, he seems to want to release Eldorado EP and "Road Of Plenty" separately.
I'm extremely enthusiastic about these releases but the method is not the most economical at all...
@ Mr. Henry: Watkins Glen!!!!!!!!! Holy cow!!!!! From what I’ve read just the soundcheck was epic, you witnessed one of the most fabled gigs in Dead history, and one the largest attended outdoor concerts in history. It must have been a unforgettable experience for you. I would love to hear your whole story as you remember about that weekend.
Peace 🙏
Fun facts: The Band's "Live at Watkins Glen" LP has only 2 songs actually recorded there. The Dead's "Watkins Glen Soundcheck Jam" was recorded the day before the concert.
I have too much free time....
Congratulations to Perseverance and everyone at NASA for an awesome job, this note's for you!

Does anyone have this photo (Unreleased Rust-oleum Commercial) in high resolution? Or maybe you know where I can find it.
I'd also like to know as I'm intrigued by the T-shirt!
