Test Pressing of "Homegrown" by Neil Young + MOUNTAINTOP Film Coming To Hearse Theater
Happy New Year to all!
A couple of Neil Young news items to start the year off. First, an image of the test pressing of the album "Homegrown" by Neil Young has been posted on Neil Young Archives. The test pressing includes a note from Reprise Records saying "This album is incredible!".
Neil comments that "this is the first time in our 50 years working together that I have ever received a test pressing with a message like this".
The album "Homegrown" was recorded in 1974 and 1975 and is the "one that got away", Neil writes on NYA. At the time, Neil considered "Homegrown" to be "too personal and frank" to be released and chose to release the album "Tonight's The Night", instead.
"Homegrown: Never Known to Fail"
Unreleased Neil Young Album
In April 2019, when answering a letter on NYA, Neil wrote that: "The real 'Homegrown' album is coming out after Tuscaloosa." (More on Homegrown and Other Unreleased Neil Young Albums.)

Happy 2020, everyone!
"Looking forward, all that I can see is good things happening to you and to me. I'm not waiting for times to change... I'm gonna live like a free roamin' soul, on the highway of our love."
Dear Thrasher,
How amazing it is to have all these unreleased (/alternate?) songs by NY on the upcoming Homegrown album release!
Stoked!

Happy 2020 to everyone, everywhere.
I’m very excited about NYA this year and I love the cover of Homegrown (if indeed that is the eventual cover). The list of releases that Neil has singled out are just incredible and I’m hoping that they all find their way out to the faithful fans. Time will tell but for some reason I feel like Neil is serious this time.
Perhaps it has to do with time fading away for him and for us. The loss of so many friends and family that Neil has begun to see how little time he actually has to complete his quest with his archives. Hard to really know what goes on in his mind, but it certainly appears that he is very happy in his new marriage and his recent focus on finishing projects he had left behind so I’m hopeful.
I too have lost many loved ones in the last decade and I too see the time in front of me is far shorter than the time behind me, and I too have experienced the need to embrace the now more intensely. So perhaps Neil is also feeling the same. Because he has always been one to be in complete control of his art, he’s probably pushing to make sure he releases everything that he feels is important while he can still control the finished product.
...... Anyway, here’s hoping for great things for 2020. Not only from Neil, but for our world and everyone in it to know love, peace, and understanding.
🙏
