"PROFOUND": Analysis Conclusion of Neil Young's Song Writing | YouTube
A little something different today...
Here's a video of a guitarist from Britain named Fil (aka "Wings of Pegasus") with some analysis of Neil Young's writing at the tender age of 26. The song "Old Man" from BBC 1971 broadcast is analyzed from 7 angles to Sunday.
"There is nothing lost between what Neil Young feels, what he plays, and what the audience experiences."
SPOILER ALERT: the video concludes that Neil Young's song writing is "PROFOUND".
Now, Kurt Vile has curated his own Neil Young playlist for Neil Young Archives. NYA says:
We’re stoked to start off this week’s Subscriber’s News with the announcement of a brand new feature here at the Archives: Curated Playlists! Every once in a while somebody special is gonna drop in and take you on a personal tour of the music here on NYA, write a little something about their history with Neil’s music, and pick out tunes that’re near and dear and what they want you to hear.
We’re especially thrilled to introduce our flagship playlist-auteur, Kurt Vile, whose latest record Bottle it In has been in such heavy rotation in the Archives office that it’s crept into at least one archivist’s dreams. Kurt has been an NYA member from the jump–and we’ve been fans of his since 2008’s Constant Hitmaker–so we figured he’d be the perfect person to kick off this new feature and we were thrilled that he was as into the idea as we were. Kurt is currently on tour with Toronto, Canada’s own The Sadies – so check’em out.
Head on over to those front few folders in the Filing Cabinet to listen to “stumblin’ with Neil…” and read Kurt’s thoughts on the playlist in the description tab. We’re just about as a new to this playlist concept as you are, so we’re not sure how often playlists will rotate or how long “stumblin’ with Neil…” will be available–you best get while the gettin’s good.
I’m proud. I’m inspired. I CAN’T FUCKING BELIEVE the good people at Neil Young Archives have presented me with the greatest of honors in a territory uncharted:
Guest playlist #1 on the NYA.
Is this real?
“Only real… in the way… that I feel… from day to day.”
[…] It would take me forever to explain why every song on this list is important to me.
Each one strikes a chord and precise memory… or many memories… the strings of nostalgia pulled upon once again.
[…] All these tunes I picked here punch me in the guts and there are so many, of course, that I haven’t included. This is after all NEIL YOUNG’S ARCHIVE…And though I’m aware I have access to the whole catalogue, I decided to stick mostly with the album cuts I’ve grown up on… But this is often a heady trip (although not exclusively and at other times far from it), I should point out that I decided to narrow my sights to include songs no earlier than Time Fades Away. I love the records all the way back to the Springfield and onward (of course!) but it was fun to start moody…
Kurt’s playlist includes a wide variety of cuts such as “On The Beach,” “Buffalo Springfield Again,” “Goin’ Back,” and “Albuquerque.”
Happy Valentine's Day - To All of Our Hearts of Gold: "We Love You!"
Happy Valentine's Day!
It's been roughly 45+ years now since "Heart of Gold" entered our lives, and we'd like to wish that every day could be Valentine's Day.
And no Neil Young song seems to say Happy Valentine's Day more than "Harvest Moon" it would seem by gauging the song's popularity as a "First Dance" song.
Often, we've found ourselves trying to explain Neil Young's music to others with varying degrees of success. In the end, we find that his music isn't really something that can be explained.
While we've expended quite a few words on this blog making an attempt, it really is the stories of others which transcend the gap much better.
So Happy Valentine's Day to all of the hearts of gold out there.
Here's a very rare performance of Neil Young's "Love in Mind" at Carnegie Hall, NYC on 1/9/14. As everybody knows, "Love in Mind" -- from Time Fades Away -- is only available on vinyl*. (* As everybody knows, "Love in Mind" also is on the "Live at Massey Hall" CD (same tour as the TFA version, different date)
And Happy Valentine's Day to my Heart of Gold, Thrashette. I love you!
Last month, Neil Young announced that he is planning a concert tour of Germany this summer with + Promise of The Real, per Neil Young Archives.
June and July 2019 was the timeframe, however the 2019 Germany Tour announcement has been delayed, according to a response to a Letter to the Editor on NYA Times-Contrarian: "Announcements are coming as soon as we finish checking out the sponsors and making sure they are OK with us. We notice some banks and want to see what they invest in."
Also, in response to another question on NYA Times-Contrarian, Neil Young is also planning a solo tour of Europe next winter: "We are looking at the possibilities of NYA solo shows in London and throughout all Europe. This has been difficult with everyone else looking for big paydays and out door festivals for me in the summer. We may just come back in the winter.
Loving our NYA solo shows, we are continuing our investigation!!"
