Sheryl Crow In The Studio with Neil Young

Neil Young & Sheryl Crow - 11 March 2016
(Click photo to enlarge)

Reports from Sheryl Crow News indicates that Sheryl Crow was working with Neil Young in the studio, earlier this month.

No other details are available other than Steve Jordan is possibly both Producer and Drummer on the project.

From Vanity Fair magazine (November 2005):

"My hometown of Kennett, Missouri, sits right on the Arkansas and Tennessee borders. The Mississippi River makes the air hang heavy with moisture. About 10 miles away, there's a town called Senath, famous for its legend of a mysterious, otherwordly light. As kids, we would drive out to an empty field and sit for hours waiting for its light to appear. Neil Young's "Harvest" was the soundtrack of my last summer in Kennett, and although I told many boys, I'd seen "the light," I never really did."

Neil Young Honored As MusiCares Person Of The Year

Sheryl Crow at MusiCares Honors Neil Young As Person Of The Year - 2010:
"He seemed to marry folk music and country music and for me, where I was from in Missouri, it really sort of set me on course as far as a songwriter goes, and he also managed to interject really socially, politically, moving lyrics into rock songs and he still is for me the template that I hold up and hope to eventually accomplish the things that he's done."

Funny from Nash's twitter account how he sees himself?

Graham Nash
@TheGrahamNash

Graham Nash has helped shape the world around him through ideas, innovations, and influential works of art for more than four decades.

I don't care too much for Nash's syrupy music, but objectively, his self description can easily be justified. Especially if you focus on the part that says "the world around him" which can really be thought of as just his friends and family circle.

However, even a cynic like Andy would agree that Nash's art has been heard around the world, and likely impacted many who heard it. It's a pretty worthwhile life spent when you can realistically say you brought happiness and thought to many, which Graham has most certainly done.

Can any of us truly say he hasn't shared his ideas and innovations with many? Be it through music, or photography or "literature" he has shared his thoughts and art with the world.

On a semi-related note, I can't help but be shocked at how many here are upset with Nash (and primarily Neil) over their recent marital/relationship difficulties. They are artists, and have provided a soundtrack for our lives. We don't have any clue about their personal lives and struggles (other than what they choose to reveal directly & indirectly). We're certainly not in any position to judge them over previous and current failed personal relationships, nor those that will come in the future.

We don't really know our friends and neighbors, so we certainly don't know our musical heroes. What we do know is what their music has meant and still means to us.

Let's salute them for what they've given us, and if they appear to be a little egotistical at times, perhaps that's as much our fault as it is theirs.

Rant over...

Take my advice
don't listen to me
(but please remember--we all have our flaws and daily struggles)

Thanks TopangaD. That needed to be said.

We've long struggled with how best to cover a celebrity in a respectful manner. For better or worse that's what we've tried to do by focusing on the music first and all of the side projects second.

That really leaves little room for what seems to be the incessant bickering that has gone on for decades with CSNY. In fact they've all told their stories in the their music.

There's a line here somewhere that we try not to cross -- although it can be difficult to discern.
peace

what the heck does Graham Nash have to do with "Sheryl Crow In The Studio with Neil Young"
somebody please, enlighten me

It has nothing to do with Ms Crow - I just thought it was quite funny and couldn't find a suitable place. It was supposed to be light hearted but like most things here people take it all so seriously. No need to look too deep as a cynic like me finds it all so amusing.

I'm off to ride my llama

Hey Andy, actually I think you've become a little less cynical recently, but either way, keep on riding that llama. We are who we are, and I've learned to appreciate your posts.

Question: What's your Twitter description or what would it be?
I'm not being snarky, I'm actually curious...

Take my advice
don't listen to me

Sheryl Crow is working in studio for a couple of projects, also with other artists. This sounds as a Neil guest collaboration during the Sheryl's sessions.

Steve Jordan… that's a name from the past. He was the drummer of the infamous "Landing on Water" album and also backed Neil live occasionally through the late '80s, such as here:

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5lwon_neil-young-keep-on-rockin-in-the-fr_music.

About andy walters' comment, my only issue is that it could be construed as provocative or intended to stir up reactions. There's nothing really wrong with "off-topic", especially since, as he points out, Thrasher's doesn't have user threads. Sometimes one has to go off-topic to make a valid contribution. But it's also a little surprising here to see a reply not necessarily related to the OP in any way, so just that aspect of surprise can make it seem like the poster is trying to stir up the dirty. That may well be an incorrect interpretation, for which I apologize. However, if we're talking about Nash for a moment, I'll put some of the mythologized image-making up to the inevitable PR machine, and I'll point out that, to me, he always seems down-to-earth and reasonable when listening to him talk. I would also echo Topanga's statements about not getting too wrapped up in these people's personal lives. As I just intimated, we really only know them as public images even though we may feel a certain kind of intimacy about our favorite artists, and I strongly agree that it's not our place to b come indignant, or dive self-righteous outrage, about Neil's or Grahams's personal relationships. I've always liked to think that blogs such as this are not the internet equivalent of a gossip rag. I don't know about anyone else, but that's not why I come here.

Additionally, Graham's statement does say " has helped shape the world". I appreciate the word "helped" , as I'd also like to think that we all help to shape the world just a little bit.

Ian, all fair points but Nash and his music has really never had that gravitas. Nash's new record much like Storytone is about his realationship. I'm not here to judge or gossip but much like Neil it's all linked together.

For me the Nash & Crosby & Neil feud is relevant to this site - everyone says that music is love.

I'm off to ride my llama

@Andy Walters, No hard feelings here. You're right that it's a topic that we can't help touching on. You just can never presume to know the full story with people you don't know well, so best not to be preoccupied. Still looking forward to the new album(s).

Crosby questions:

How much was wasted on the way?

Explain how bad American Dream & Looking Forward were?

What is CSNY's legacy ?

When did the four of you start believing the myth about CSNY?

What's happned to you and Nash - you didn't like his book?

What would you call your biography ? 8 Miles High?
