From Neil Young mesmerizes crowd at sold-out Adams Center show | The Missoulian by DAVID ERICKSON:
With lyrics like “Yeah, I want my cup of coffee but I don’t want a GMO, I like to start my day of without helping Monsanto,” and “When corporate control takes over the American farm, with fascist politicians and chemical giants walking arm in arm,” it’s Young’s most issue-based album of his career. And yet, he didn’t come across as an angry old man Thursday night.

“It’s been a great September for me,” he told the crowd when he finally stopped playing long enough to speak. “I wouldn’t trade it on any other month so far.”

Young hasn’t lost the vocal ability to hit the high notes, and he swayed back and forth with his bandmates on stage, showcasing his love for live shows even as he's getting on in years.

He even managed to sneak in a reference to Montana, thereby getting a rise out of the massive crowd.

“Big Sky, I’m grateful for your parting clouds,” he sang in “Wolf Moon.”

He sounded like he meant it. Ol’ Neil’s still got it.

I attended last nights concert in Missoula, Montana and we had an absolute blast!
I have seen Neil from Malahide to Mountain View, Cork City to Calgary, and this concert was Neil at his very best.
Neil showed energy of a rocker many years younger than his present age. He fed off the energy from a young and very talented band.
I have never seen Neil smile so much and enjoy every minute of an almost 3 hour concert.
The sold out crowd had a wonderful vibe and aided in making the night a memorable one.
The "new" songs presented very well live and had the crowd up on their feet and engaged.
Last nights version of DBTR was full of emotion with Neil and Lucas trading guitar licks.
I am a huge Neil fan and was unsure of what to expect going in with the anti Monsanto slant.
I came for the music and Neil and the band delivered big time !!

Thanks Murray for the report.

Nice to hear that Neil is enjoying himself and continues to smile away. :)

Just out of curiosity, we looked into Neil's cover of "September Song" composed by Kurt Weill, with lyrics by Maxwell Anderson.

Because, as we all know, everything that Neil does is just so random and incomprehensible.

From Wikipedia:
"September Song" is based on a familiar poetic metaphor that compares a year to a person's life span from birth to death. [3]) Several songs on Frank Sinatra's 1965 album September of My Years, including the title song and "It Was a Very Good Year", utilize the same metaphor.

The song is an older person's plea to a younger potential lover that the courting activities of younger suitors and the objects of their desire are transient and time-wasting. As an older suitor, the speaker hasn't "got time for the waiting game."

The song consists of a chorus, the section that starts, "Oh, It's a long, long time . . ." and two different verses, one describing the courting activities of a young man and one describing the disdainful reaction of the girl and the suitor's patience until she changes her mind.

"Oh, it's a long, long while from May to December
But the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
One hasn't got time for the waiting game

Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November
And these few precious days I'll spend with you
These precious days I'll spend with you"

Lukas sang it, like his daddy before him.

Could have been connected to this Neil quote from the Missoulian review: “It’s been a great September for me,” he told the crowd when he finally stopped playing long enough to speak. “I wouldn’t trade it on any other month so far.”

And by the way, September Song was the only cover, according to comments on that review - no Precious Memories. (Maybe some confusion over all those "precious" references in the September Song lyrics.)

Hey friends,

I'm excited to see Neil and the POTR tomorrow in Vancouver and I can't seem to find out if there is an opening act. Neil's setlist seems pretty long so I'm guessing there isn't one.

But details would be appreciated, especially what time Neil hits the stage.

Trying to organize my sitter.
