Wow Vampire Blues played an encore last night for the second time ever.

Monumental set list. So disappointed that I can't cross the Atlantic to see this tour. Surely Neil will bring The Promise to Europe?

Disappointed last night in Eugene. First part was great, then Young went into his diatribe against Monsanto for three numbers and we left. Totally lost us with all the political garbage. We go to a concert to be entertained and hear the classics, not be subjected to political activism and lyrics like "pesticides cause autism." Terrible concert in my opinion.

@Rose: I'm not a fan of the Monsanto stuff, but if three new songs caused you to walk out, it was your loss. I don't say this often to other "fans" but you just don't get it.

The set list and performance was just about as good as it gets being a Neil Young fan. He played for well over 2 hours, was energetic and in good voice, played a good number of hits and rarities, and mixed in a few new songs that let you know where he's at currently.

How does it get much better? It doesn't!!

Oh I get it alright. Neil Young isn't hard to figure out nor is his music. He should save his politics for his free time instead of charging people to hear his rants about Monsanto. I liked the first hour--he ruined the rest of the show for us. We're all entitled to our opinions. I've been a "fan" for over 40 years and I've seen the best. This concert wasn't one of them.

At 10/09/2015 11:21:00 PM, Blogger heile said...

Still amazed by people complaining about Neil's political music as if he didn't write Ohio, Alabama, and Southern Man in his most popular period. Also, how lame Is it when try to dictate what Neil "should" play, as if he wouldn't be promoting the anti-Monsanto LP he and the Promise of the Real are touring behind.

Lemme tell you, if you walked out during the short section of Monsanto songs, you missed the best part of the show and also should probably stay home more often- you won't be missed at shows.

At 10/09/2015 11:23:00 PM, Blogger Rose said...

LMAO! Hilarious that some people are so sensitive and cannot tolerate a differing opinion. Grow up already.

At 10/09/2015 11:24:00 PM, Blogger heile said...

Did you really not expect him to play songs of the album he's touring behind, which is clearly an anti-Monsanto album? Maybe make an effort as a "fan" to see what art he's currently making before purchasing the ticket? I wasn't mislead about the message of the show going in- it was pretty clear

At 10/09/2015 11:26:00 PM, Blogger heile said...

Hilarious that some people troll a blog full of hardcore Neil fans and don't expect a passionate response.

It's chill, you can have an opinion. It's the Internet.

At 10/10/2015 12:17:00 AM, Blogger Rose said...

I wasn't "trolling" and had no idea this was a "hardcore fans only" site.

Chill yourself. It's JUST Neil Young after all. I saw him when he was with Crazy Horse and CSN, so get off your high horse already. Geesh.

Thrilled to be there last night, I couldn't make the show in Portland so headed down I-5 to Eugene.

My reward was My, My, (Hey, Hey), Vampire Blues(!), Down By The River etc. etc. Beautiful stuff. Best set list of the tour so far

Hard to understand how anyone would bum because of a few new songs about the future of farming. This is a major issue in everybody's life and you know what, there were some terrific jams within these important songs.
This was an awesome rock show, with cross generational energy and kick ass production. Here's a guy staying true to his convictions, funding a traveling 'side show' of vital educational issue sharing folks and playing more 'old stuff' than he ever has. 'Words" into 'Alabama" into Walk On"? Nothing short of epic. Spontaneous "Powderfinger", which wasn't supposed to be on the day's set-list? Oh hell yea! "Shelter me from the powder and the finger". (Umqua CC is less than an hour away) This was a show filled with truly amazing dips into his catalogue, pertinent issues and supported brilliantly by Willie's boys.

Thanks to all for comments!
Vampire Blues! 1st time since March 1974 -- 41 years ago -- and only for the second time ever. Wow.

Dear Rose - Yes, we do allow and encourage dissenting opinions. They just have to be somewhat logical. Please understand that your comment comes across as very odd for long time fan.

So how could you possibly be disappointed as a long time fan at the Rebel Content Tour?! (Didn't the tour title give you a clue for what you were in for?)

Why did the Monsanto songs bother you? Neil's been doing rebel/protest songs all along for 45+ years now, you know?

And you missed "Vampire Blues"?! So many fans would have given anything to be there in your emptyseat. What a shame.

Just curious. Did you walk out when CSNY would play "Ohio"? Walk out on Greendale or LWW tours?

peace

There are many people who are "long time fans" meaning they were fans "a long time ago" and haven't kept up. Their play lists stop at 1978, and that's when they think that NY should have stopped as well and just kept doing the same thing, over and over and ...again, my friend. It's the fault of the "fan" who is in their own limited "me me what about me!?" bubble when Neil Young comes along and pops it. Hence the whining.

Also, even a casual perusal of this site would reveal the general set list structure of the shows and links/examples of the actual songs and their content as well as the ongoing numerous discussions and arguments on the nature and quality of the content. The information is there; caveat emptor. It's Rose's fault that she/he didn't have a clue.

Hey, my point is that:

even if someone went into this show not knowing what to expect;
and even if someone went into this show a fan of 70's Neil only;
and even if someone went into this show wanting to hear the hits;
and even if someone went into this show wanting only to be entertained;
and even if someone went into this show not wanting to hear "political garbage"

it would have and should have been more than enough.

This tour finds Neil striking a near perfect balance sampling his career catalogue through the present day.

Rose, I can understand having a problem with the Monsanto & gmo stuff. I too tend to rely on scientific consensus on that. But after much consideration, I'm still going to the show on Wednesday and stay to the end. Seen every Neil tour since 1983, and I decided I don't have to agree with everything I hear -- Neil has such a positive effect on me for so much of my life...I know that I can focus on the positive on Wednesday. For the new songs, I'm going to focus on the part of the message that says that corporations are too large & powerful, and that the Earth does need saving from problems like global warming. And not so much on the pesticides cause autism bit. Next time stick around for the whole show and enjoy all the other songs.

At 10/11/2015 12:59:00 PM, Blogger Unknown said...

I agree with you @heile.... And I didn't like the Monsanto tracks either but the other part was amazing as always

"LMAO! Hilarious that some people are so sensitive and cannot tolerate a differing opinion. Grow up already."

Yeah, like when some people walked out of a concert because of a few songs that had a differing opinion than theirs?
