Archives Guy with some Neil Young Archives Vol. #2 News + 'Full-Blown Orchestra' Album Coming
(Click photo to enlarge)
Lots and lots of chatter regarding the recent PONO Launch @ SXSW with Neil Young. Congratulations to the PONO Team and their Kickstarter Campaign which exceeded their goal in less than a day.
Not that anyone likes to see anyone gloat over their victories, but somewhere, someone is saying "fuck the doubters". ;)
In the midst of all of the PONO information flooding about, lots of questions from the Neil Young fan base for what this might mean for past and future Neil Young releases. And in particular, what this might mean for the much anticipated Neil Young Archives Vol. #2.
In response, to questions about whether NYA#2 might be a PONO release, Archives Guy said in a comment here on TW:
Not to distract from the subject of this post, but in answering the NYA V2 questions...And in other Neil Young news, here's some info on a future Neil album with a 'Full-Blown Orchestra' from Neil Young's Agenda: Jack White Project, Second Book, 'Full-Blown Orchestra' Album | Billboard by Gary Graff:
At this time we are still planning on physical release for NYA V2 and yes it will be available on Pono, too in full 24/192 sound quality. I'm happy to report that we are in full on production of NYA V2 right now. Maybe I'm biased, but I think V2 might be the best one. A plethora of previously unreleased tracks.
Dunno if anyone noticed it yet, but there are some new Artist Signature Series Pono players up on the Kickstarter page today.
Young predicts he'll have new original music to release, too, but he's not saying when. That Neil. Such a slacker.
"I have new songs that I'm working on, and I haven't stopped doing that," he says. "I do it when I feel like it and I'm collecting them. And sometimes I play them live before they come out as a record, and because of the way everything is people hear them before they come out, on the Internet. But I still feel like I'm gonna make records of them."
And if Young has his way, he'll also do something symphonic in the near future.
"I'd like to make a record with a full-blown orchestra, live -- a mono recording with one mic," he explains. "I want to do something like that where we really record what happened, with one point of view and the musicians moved closer and farther away, the way it was done in the past. To me that's a challenge and it's a sound that's unbelievable, and you can't get it any other way. So I'm into doing that."
Young is also in "the final editing stages" for his second book, "Special Deluxe," a follow-up to his 2012 memoir "Waging Heavy Peace." This book, Young says, will be out this year and "focuses on my life as regards to my transportation, as regards to my love for cars. So it's a history through automobiles, and it's a history of automobiles and it's a history of the environmental impact of automobiles. And it's a projection into the future of automobiles. It has it's own agenda that develops over the book."

There's a bit of a reality gulf between the title here ('full-blown orchestra' album coming) and the actual comment (I'd like to make a record with an orchestra). Sensationalist? Not much!
Yeah, please change the thread title please Thrasher. There is no "Full-Blown Orchestra" album coming, Neil simply stated he'd like to record an album like that some day. Looking forward to A Letter Home, finally a Neil Young solo album.
@ anon @ 12:07
If we are being picky, then you need to rephrase "finally a Neil Young solo album," because Jack White is on two of the tracks, therefore it is not a true "solo" album
or everyone could just calm down
Yeah CTFO (chill the flac out!)...
Neil has been using live orch alot of late, and he's always prone to the Briggs "straight to the source" principle.
Where's the trumped up info?
Umm, thanks for the headline feedback. Sensationalist?
We're always trying to get things right here.
So we checked the quote again - "I'd like to make a record with a full-blown orchestra, live -- a mono recording with one mic," he explains.
So what exactly should the revised headline be?
Don't need facebook, don't need what's app, just need trasher's wheat!
How's about "Neil Young might make a record with an orchestra sometime" which would be true. As opposed to "Full blown orchestra album coming" which implies a definite release. Come on Thrasher, how often do Neil's throwaway comments to the press actually turn into the precise reality mooted?
regular stairs - what situations has Neil been using full orchestra in recently? I remember a couple of Crazy Horse albums and a CH tour. I remember some solo gigs playing Phil Ochs songs. I read about a quickie album recorded with Jack White. When did he squeeze the orchestra sessions in?
Has anyone noticed that in the promo photos of the PonoPlayer, Herbie Hancock's name is misspelled as 'Handcock' and Blowin' In The Wind is spelled 'Blowing'. In some of the pics, the ID2 tags aren't even properly completed, so in the artist field it says 'Unknown artist'.
Minor issues no doubt, but doesn't someone check these things before they put them out to the media?
Mr. Pedant
Neil's been a busy fella!!
Total Misleading headline. Neil never said a full blown orchestra album was coming. Headline should have been Letters from Home coming soon. Hopefully you don't watch fox News because misleading untruthful
reporting is their forte. I don't expect that here just report the WHAT IS WHAT NEIL ACTUALLY SAID
Pono one minute, MONO the next...*I* can't keep up with the guy...
Sure on one level Neil is a busy guy, but really, the only thing that counts is new music. So shut up and play yer guitar, Neil. And since "full" 24/192 actually is slightly worse sound quality than Redbook CD, perhaps we should temper our expectations for the "full" blown orchestra.
Ever since "archives guy's" purposeful misinformation about Neil at the Canada Olympics (and several other times),I can only take anything he says with a grain of salt. I understand why fans will kiss his ass, so to speak, but I will wait until he actually delivers product. A lot of time has passed since Archives, Volume 1. Too Much.
