Bible Study with Neil Young & Jim Jarmusch
Here's a little Bible study with Neil Young & Jim Jarmusch for your Sunday morning.
From the concert film Year of The Horse Film from the 1996 tour, directed by Jim Jarmusch, film is certainly a worthy successor to the classic "Rust Never Sleeps" with the addition of interviews and behind the scenes footage along with the raging, stomping, raw Crazy Horse style. Featuring a several epic jams including "Slip Away" and "Big Time" which clock in over 15 minutes each, the live material reveals the magic nature of what happens onstage in the "huddle".
Over on Dangerous Minds | ‘Who do you think you are, God?’: Bible talk with Jim Jarmusch and Neil Young a little bit more on the clip above:
The clip below focuses on Jarmusch and Young pretending to take seriously a bunch of completely over-the-top bible verses. There’s a goofy and childlike camaraderie between the two who, frankly, seem a little “light-headed.”Released on VHS and never reissued, Year of the Horse seems to be out of print for purchase (but you might find on Amazon | Year of the Horse: Neil Young and Crazy Horse Live).
While you’re waiting for the God talk, enjoy a psyched 1970’s super-fan extolling the virtues of “the Neil Young universe” and a spacey, Jesus freak guy enlightening Young on how “San Francisco was the rebirth of the planet.”

The film is still regularly available on DVD in Germany, though.
Jim Jarmusch came to the George Eastman House's Dryden Theater in Rochester and presented that film in '97. During the q&a after, I was dying to ask him what prompted them to read the bible on the bus, but didn't get my hand up enough. I still think that's one of the most entertaining scenes in the movie, watching those ponder what they were reading.
Funny thing, a few years ago he walked right by me in NYC and by the time it registered in my mind that it was him passing in front of me, I thought now's my chance to ask him! But I didn't want to hassle him, so I didn't. I wish I had because I still want to know.
You can get it from: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neil-Young-Crazy-Horse-Year/dp/B00CGXNW40/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1378050727&sr=8-1&keywords=year+of+the+horse+neil+young
Always wondered why the cd is a bit dissapointing, while there are a lot of good bootlegs from 1996 & 1997.
The dvd is nice, although I prefere Muddy Track.
It is currently on Netflix.
I bought the dvd last week, found it for only 2.99 euros (I live in Belgium).
Great dvd!
Siskel or Ebert named this the Worst Movie of the Year in their annual worst of show.
Yes, and both Siskel and Ebert are now dead, so their opinions are meaningless. GREAT film!!
