David Crosby's Recent Conversation w/ Neil Young | Rolling Stone
The fallout continues over the recent Crazy Horse tour cancellation.
Here's David Crosby on the situation in Rolling Stone by Andy Greene:
"I just talked to Neil yesterday," says Crosby.Crosby also discusses in the Rolling Stone article his new solo album, his hopes for a CSNY Reunion Tour, and Neil Young's opinion of MP3s.
"He feels real bad for Poncho . . . I have so much respect for Neil because he always follows his muse. It's often counter to what I want, because I want to work with him. But I also want him to follow his muse. I want him playing music that excites him right that minute. And if that includes me, that's wonderful. If it doesn't, that's wonderful too. He's still making great music and still tries to push the envelope. Sometimes he succeeds, sometimes he makes Trans."

I like Crosby, but Trans was a success, in my opinion. "Sample and Hold", "Computer Age", "Syscrusher"... I mean, what's not to like?
Horsewifnoname
that's what *I* thought too...
......... i'll 3rd that notion.
Even Crosby doesn't get it...
A Friend Of Yours
From an artistic point of view Trans is one of his best albums, although it would have been better if it was released the way Neil Young originally intented. I'm not too fond of the electronic sound, though.
At this point I don't see the value of another CSNY collaboration. CSN aren't moving forward and their voices aren't that great anymore. CSN 2012 is kind of nice, but I expect more from Neil Young and he certainly can deliver.
Actually it´s the non Vocoder Tracks that are just average stuff on Trans(except Like An Inca, which is good if a bit overlong), stuff like Little Thing Called Love, Hold On To Your Love especially when seen next to the other bootleged tunes that should have made this one a seperate album (Island In The Sun) they all pretty much sound alike, there is no real standout and on the whole seem just like average harmless little ditties. It is the vocoder tunes that standout and not even because of the novelty factor of the vocoder as Neil has demonstrated by playing them without that device on several occasions (Computer Age in 1987 and Transformer Man and Sample And Hold unplugged in 1993 the latter only available on bootleg unfortunatly), thus demonstrating that they stand out great on their own as songs(btw Neil´s best songs work in any arrangement, electric, acoustic, piano, pump organ, banjo whatever...).
So Trans stands as some of Neil´s greatest songwriting of the 80s in a time when he recorded a ton of genre music that often sounded...well generic, like most of the country, rnb and rockabilly stuff he would do, nothing against those genres but that was by the book mass production with many songs sounding alike(especially when you listen to all the outtakes)
Gee, i´m rambling, what was my point again? Ah well Trans is my favourite Neil album of the 80s!
Trans est une expérience de communication cf. l'autobiographie de l'artiste "waging heavy peace". David Crosby est injuste.
Wow I thought I was the only one that loved Trans!
In my perfect world 2014 would finally bring the release of the 1974 CSNY boxset along with a CSNY
tour which Crosby and Nash are pushing for. This also would be a
great segway into the release of
Archives Vol.2.
whether it happens or not it will
be Neil's call. Once can only hope.
The Trans Vocoder tracks are some of the best songs Neil has ever written. Try playing them on acoustic guitar and you will discover them once and for all.
I think I am going to recommend that to Croz by replying to one of his tweets.
I hope he doesn't waste any more time touring with CSN.

The delay of the 1974 tour CD seems to suggest at least some possibility of some CSNY shows in 2014.
So Neil goes from Springfield to Horse to CSNY. Sounds familiar?
Let's see. Neil quits the Springfield. A Crazy Horse guitarist goes down. CSNY gathers and splits.
Next up, Tonight's the Night II!
To Raincheck...I love the way you think....brings back a time when was eight or nine
One can only hope these days for the release of some of the gems we have heard about for way too long now.

@ Raincheck:
That would be too obvious. Expected the unexpected. Neil Young wouldn't be Neil Young if he followed the same road twice, haha! ;)
I absolutely adore Crosby Stills Nash and Young, each as amazing individuals, with talents beyond belief.Their voices are magical and spiritual and bring me joy and peace in my life.
CSN have a lot of projects slated for 2014. I can only assume that Crosby has discussed with Neil about his intentions for the 2014.
CSNY are quite old. I'm still hurt for the sudden epilogue (I don't charge anyone, but it's a fact) , I don't think that the next time I'll hazard to commit myself totally to follow a Neil tour like this summer. Maybe a couple of shows if in Europe.
So Tired
The core of the Trans tracks (the vocoder tracks) was recorded at the Neil Ranch in the late 1981 as a sort of a sequel to Reactor. After the recording of Island In The Sun, May 1982, in Honololu, Neil intended to use the bulk of the Trans songs as a soundtrack for his Human Highway movie. But Island In The Sun (likely an album of eight songs)wasn't well accepted by David Geffen and Neil came back to his old Trans project, diluited with some Island In The Sun songs.
So Tired.
It seems like it wasn't very long ago on Good Morning America where Crosby basically trashed Neil's recent song output saying "I haven't really liked his last few records" or something very similar. I know Graham Nash never misses an opportunity to get a dig in regarding Neil whenever he can.
So all in all, I can't figure out Crosby or Nash. As always, Neil holds all the cards...
Maybe that has something to do with the personal relationships between Neil and C&N. I've read an interview in which Nash stated that Neil rarely calls him as a friend, and that he doesn't see him as a friend.
Nash is a bit of a hypocrite, though. He's all proud that he has written two new songs and now he's telling audiences that 'CSN never stopped writing new material', geez..
Once in a decade they change their arrangements (they're late btw) and before each tour they change two songs on their setlist.
However, I must say Crosby & Nash are performing a lot better without Stills (I really liked their last tour). Wouldn't mind Crosby, Nash & Young again followed by a Buffalo Springfield tour...
Stills and Young are friends. Crosby is in good terms with Neil. Crosby is always outspoken with everyone, Neil included.
So Tired.
Yeah, but Stills was very angry with Neil after the aborted Buffalo Springfield tour. There is a bootleg of a Stills solo show in which he tells the audience he's never doing 'one of those stupid tours with Neil'. And I don't remember if he said it in print or on the bootleg, but he thought the 2006CSNY tour was ridiculous.
Although he seemed to lose his anger after Waging Heavy Peace came out.
