The other day we posted about the ongoing saga of Doubters and Believers on Does Neil Young owe you his hits? No, he doesn’t.
And would you believe it but folks accused us of stirring up a debate?! C'mon proud doubter dude, but this aggression will not stand, man.

I went to all Australian gigs and each night was different, even with mostly the same setlist...differing towards the end of each night and not once did I come away bored, dissatisfied or pissed off because they hadn't done this or that!Nice Astrololee! So you made all the AUS concerts?! Awesome. :)
Neil and Crazy Horse could have played "God Save the Queen" all night long and I bet each time they did, you would have heard different riffs, solos and "lol" even words!
In fact after each gig I left elated, on a high and fckn impressed...so much so I still have not "come down" even yet and not likely too for the rest of the year....NOTHING compares or even comes close to seeing these guys all perform together, so tight, totally in sync with each other with an understanding and awareness of each other that only years of experience.
All gigs were fantastically performed with passion, enthusiasm and ferociousness that is sadly lacking from a lot of younger bands..and believe me I'm old but still get to around 20 bigger concerts a year plus other smaller gigs in clubs and pubs!
No Neil does not owe you a damn thing..it's the other way around...I owe him and these guys for giving me a life filled with words that personally mean a lot to me, melodies that have woven a pathway to my heart and soul and have become part of my psyche and who I have am today. Neil has been in my life, throughout my troubled youth and even more stressful early adult life. I owe them for probably saving my life from despair and depression on many occasions. Neil and Crazy Horse have given me a life worth living to the full...the passion in the music that these guys have created has put me in touch with other souls whom feel the same, for which I am externally grateful.
Long live Neil, Frankie, Ralphie and Billy....I owe You and I can only repay you guys by saying Thank You...it's not enough but believe me, it's said with "Rustie" love...wooohooo!

Thanks astrololee for your moving words. I completely agree with you, I went along (to The Hill Winery, Geelong!) with no expectations and believing it a privilege just to be there and experience them play. I am still elated 10 days later too, so I imagine having seen every gig will last a long time for you, well done!
Going to see Robert Plant next week with the same feeling - whatever he does or plays, it will be a privilege to be there.

When Neil was here down under in 89 he was playin stuff from the still unreleased Freedom. In my town he played Rockin in the Freeworld for the 4th or 5th time ever. Go right back to early 70s, playin songs from Harvest a year or more before Harvest was released. etcetera etcetera. These songs over time became "hits". Those that heard these songs live can look back and say wow we heard them before they were hits.People love to say they were there first! As time goes by,and the songs of Psy Pill grow on people, how many doubters,will alter their memories to fondly remember hearing giant or ramada inn the first time?
From another perspective, that of chart success, apart from Harvest & Harvest Moon, he really hasn't had any hits.So if you heard heart of gold you can say "he played one of his 2 hits" - if Harvest Moon was also played you should be ecstatic you heard both his hits! Seeing Robert Plant tonight, be very surprised if he plays more than 3 or 4 zep hits, he'll be showcasing his new stuff as well - bet the media reviews tomorrow are glowing!
On yet another note, those outside Oz should see how much media exposure and praise Springsteen's getting here at the moment. Coz he's predictable and safe, and we can all sing-a-long! (Whats his new album called? Mirrorball? Merkin Ball? Oh yeah - Wrecking Ball - isnt that a Neil song? Odds on for the grammy there... All hail Neil for not cowtowing to the boring nostalgia set, and for those disappointed, dont worry, MMM FM will still be there at work tomorrow with their "no repeat workday" (haha)so you can hear the same 50 songs over and over, and over and over, ad infinitum until you keel over, or the Hole in the Sky consumes us all...
