Thoughts & Memories on Alchemy Tour: Neil Young & Crazy Horse 2012

Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Cleveland, Ohio - Oct. 8
Alchemy Tour 2012

We are very fortunate to have just returned from attending both the Cleveland, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Neil Young & Crazy Horse Alchemy 2012 Tour shows.

And, boy, what thoughts and memories we have of Neil and The Horse in all of their splendid ragged glory.

From our vantage point of just off the rail, what we witnessed was nothing less than two nearly perfect nights of rock and roll power delivered with raw abandon yet punctuated with all the fun and delight one could ever want. And more.

To say that we've been lucky is a vast understatement. This was our third lifetime installment of "The Rust Trilogy". We saw the Rust Never Sleeps in 1978, the Weld tour in 1991, and now the Alchemy tour in 2012. While the boys in the band and some of the songs are still the same, life's journey has continued. As they say, "their spirit seems unstoppable." Just ask anyone who has seen the chemistry of the Alchemy tour.

Highlights? Too many.

The Crazy Horse huddle.

The dinosaur stomp of "Walk Like A Giant".

Flipping off Poncho during "Fuckin' Up".

The Psychedelic Mic

The flying keyboard descending for "Like A Hurricane". (Note new tye-die draping for the crying dove)

And good news! Concerts being filmed by Shakey Pictures.

What else?

And of course our fellow rusty Neil fans who get it and know The Way. We're honored to be part of the tribe. See you next time at the campfire.

Love and Only Love will endure.

peace,
thrasher

I wish I would have known you were in Cleveland. I would have liked seeing you again. When We arrived there were not that many people on the floor yet and I could have found a spot on the rail no problem. I suggested to My girl friend that We find a way to get down there but She didn't want to stand that long. I to have been fortunate enough to attend Rust Never Sleeps 1978, Weld 1991, and now Alchemy 2012. I wore My yellow with suspenders RNS tee Shirt. Our seats were as close to the stage as you could get but still not like being on the rail. After the feedback at the end of WLAG My girlfriend asked what was that, I said, Thats why live Neil and Crazy is better, No bumper sticker big enough for that. I would like to just say thanks once again for all you do. Off topic but do you know the actual release date of the new album, and is "Journeys actually going to be released in October? Good Lord willing, I will get to see Neil again in Toronto. Doug S. Warsaw N.Y.

Hey, I just want to say that I caught both shows, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. So rarely in life do I find when I have high expectations for something that they are met so fully... I sat out the last couple tours waiting for the year of the horse and I couldn't be more pleased. BTW Los Lobos is amazing, this bill had two of my all time favorite bands and the sets were awesome - I hope they play together at some point (PHILLY please !) LAH blew my 45 year old mind. If you are on the fence by all means dont miss this tour.

Thank you for EVERYTHING, Thrasher !!! I am envious of everyone who has seen all three shows of the "Rust Trilogy" tours, but where does the 1986 "Live In A Rusted-Out Garage" tour fit in? That was MY first NY & CH show and the theatrics were as INSANE as the music was GREAT !!! Austin City Limits here I come !!!

I love Neil too Thrasher but good grief your slobbering and fawning is way over the top. You act as if Neil is not human...yes he's fantastic live and is a legend among songwriters...but give it a rest with the deification Neil Young.

Thanks for the slobbering and fawning, Thrasher...only another month and half before I get to slobber and fawn. But it sounds like it'll be worth the wait!

Great Post Thrasher

I caught weld and Greendale so this will be my third (I think) NY&CH. Greendale was the wifes 1st CH show. She still says it is the best concert she has ever seen.

Thanks for everything you do, and Thank you Neil for Riding that Crazy Horse one more time!

Yes! This has me pumped! I am ABSOLUTELY LOVING what I am hearing of Psychedelic Pill! (might be his best material since the 90's!) I am just about finished with Waging Heavy Peace (which I am a little sad about... I don't want it to end!) And The Horse is on tour! It's a great time to be a Neil fanatic (as per usual!). I will be seeing Neil and the boys in Bridgeport in December (the last stop on this leg of the tour), though I wish I could have made it out to another show, but I got laid off from my job about a month ago..about two weeks after my second kid arrived, so things are complicated to say the least. Luckily I just found a new job, and I am thankful I at least get to see Neil once on this tour. This will be my ninth Crazy Horse show... I pray there will be more tours in the future. Thank you Thrasher! Love what you do! I may not comment so much these days but I am always lurking! Keep up the good work my friend!
P.S. I was just grooving to Americana... folks who put that album down need to have their hearing checked I think... Neil and the Horse are having a blast playing that material...it's very obvious, and it sounds fantastic... great stuff!

@ShittyHorse: Congratulations to you on both counts-kid and job! I know what you mean about "Waging Heavy Peace"...I find myself trying to read slower and slower as I get to the end of the book. Can't wait to discuss the book with all you Rusties!

I have been a fan of Neil Young for many years but just hadn't had an opportunity to see him in concert until now. My cheap-o general admission tickets got me onto the floor and just a few people away from front and stage-L- the side he played to the most! Being so close was great. The sound was wonderful, his voice was strong and he was a delight. We stood next to a guy who has seen Neil Young 14 times over the years, he said that he had never seen him put on such a show...I'd say it was one of the most awesome performances I've ever seen
