Just weeks ago, we featured as our Photo of the Moment: Neil Young and Donald "Duck" Dunn. Donald "Duck" Dunn was on bass with Booker T & The MG's as Neil Young's band at Finsbury Park, London in 1993.
Sadly, Donald "Duck" Dunn has moved on to the great gig in the sky.
Steve Cropper, Dunn's friend and bandmate, announced the bassist's passing on his Facebook page:
"Today I lost my best friend, the World has lost the best guy and bass player to ever live. Duck Dunn died in his sleep Sunday morning May 13 in Tokyo Japan after finishing 2 shows at the Blue Note Night Club."
The MGs were the house band for Stax Records, and Dunn can be heard on songs such as Otis Redding's "Respect" and Sam and Dave's "Hold On, I'm Comin'."
Here's the 2 Minute History of Donald "Duck" Dunn with several clips including Neil Young.
In addition to touring with Neil Young in 1993, Booker T & The MG's with Donald "Duck" Dunn is featured on the 2002 Neil Young album ‘Are You Passionate?’.

Very sad indeed. Doug
Gotta tell you this one really hurts...just so sad. I remember the tour in '93 and sitting in a great spot watching Duck carry the music along. One of the truly great bass players and a pioneer of music. My prayers are with you and your family and friends.
Was at Finsbury Park that day. A very cold July London afternoon. Excellent version of Dock of the Bay and a memorable concert. Great encore with Pearl Jam too.
Here's another good link of Duck and Neil (hidden behind Johnny Cash's shoulders). Got it from someone on rusties on facebook: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmCblTGyDMY
Looks like Neil's playing a guitar of someone else, no bigsby and no P90 or mini hums and not enough volume... And it ain't nothing for him (i guess), do a solo when some 'director' points his finger to you, knowing your solo time is restricted to only a dozen of seconds
You can also listen to the Dunn bass on The Silver & Gold album and on Road Rock Vol.1. Duck played with Neil also on the 2000 Friends + Relatives Tour (you can see him on the Red Rock Dvd ), 2002Poncho & MG's and on the 2000 & 2002 CSNY tours.
So Tired.
+ you can also listen to the Dunn bass on the CSNY album Looking Forward
