VIDEO INTERVIEW: Neil Young On playing with country music legends
Another video on the The Making of A Treasure with an interview of Neil Young at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville.
From Rolling Stone by Matthew Murphy:
'As a group of musicians, they were absolutely the peak,' Neil Young says of the International Harvesters, the band of country music veterans he played with on his new live album A Treasure, which was recorded on tour in 1984 and 1985. In this interview shot backstage at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Young told Rolling Stone's Patrick Doyle about how he was investigating his country roots at the time of that tour, and how he could never hope to recreate the magic of his collaboration with this particular set of musicians.
In a comment, Jonathan said:
This video got me to thinking - after I wiped away my own tear.
It's as if Neil truly is letting his guard down and giving fans a genuine insight into his personal thinking about his legacy. I'm so glad that he is opening the vaults and finally releasing one gem after another - gems that we all knew were in there but that he didn't release for numerous reasons.
It's fantastic that he is setting the pace for his Archives releases - not someone else who may have other motives other than the music itself - think Hendrix.

I love this particular video . . . for the parallel he draws between country music and the blues, and for the tears that appear to form in his eyes when talking about Ben Keith at the very end. I agree that it seems he's letting his guard down more and more, and I appreciate him for doing so.
Took the words right out of my mouth Melanie!
"that's just how deep it is"....
again, well said.
He has opened up the treasure trunk with this release and his stories about these players and his reverence for the experience. That's why he's Neil. 'Caus he's so real.
Hey thanks Thrash for posting my comment up there - I know we track on the same wavelength when it comes to Neil - no doubt. I'm trying to leave the politics alone here from now on. Anyway peace to you and take care.
My treasure T-Shirt is already falling apart.
Its a piece of crap!
Love the cd/br though.
Love this video interview and specially do like the fact that Neil shows so much respect for his sidemen. Ben Keith himself was a treasure. His playing was fantastic. Love and always will love his songs although they were all released under his alias Neil Young. Happy to see Neil does know the importance of Ben's musical genius. "Words" without Ben would still have a good groove but never have the same feel that touches you straight in the heart. Neil will never ever play "Words" again. There's this one song I was hoping for to hear and see Neil and his friends play one day. That wish is history.
When I was a kid my favorite Beatles song was Get Back. Years later I did realize it was the organ from Billy Preston that really got me. His organ playing was far above the genius of the songwriters he was working with. Like Ben Keith he could play around the rhythm and the soul of a track. It's a pleasure to listen to Rufus Thibodeaux on A Treasure. Really like the album and it still keeps growing. Good to be a Neil Young fan. Again.
My T-shirt still hasn't arrived.
