Jim Morrison & Neil Young: Rare Photo?
We've spent a little bit of time trying to verify the photo above which is allegedly Jim Morrison & Neil Young.
We'll definitely agree that The Doors' Jim Morrison is on the right. But is that Neil?
The photo is from the blog City of Night which is purportedly by Grace Slick.
There's no detail on the photo like date or location.
There's a passing resemblance to Neil but not absolute.
So did Neil & Jim ever cross paths??
Who knows?
But here are some folks that Neil Young definitely crossed paths with.

The page author doesn't claim to be Grace Slick, if you read About Me.

no Neil - at all!
Thanks MCJ. Guess the URL threw us...
It could be, but I'm not convinced. Looks a lot like David Fricke though.
I seem to recall Neil commenting on the Doors as an opening act.....
NOT Neil. If it were Neil, Morrison wouldn't be looking the other way...
LRR
LRR - ha! Now who's that in background with book? Ralph Molina?! ;)
The photo isn't dated. He has Neil Young's hair length of around 1969. His hair was longer later. But the ring is too wide. Photos from this time are showing Neil with a smaller ring with an oval plate.
Thats not them .but it is my grandmothers house
Surely the guy in the back is Robbie Krieger.
Is it Neil? On first looks I thought it was a no brainer on being him but now I'm really not sure.
Not Neil! I thought the same as ralfboe about the ring too. I`m sure their paths did cross, but no, Neil was better looking than that guy.
Check out this link. This should answer your question. This is a photo of Jim, Robbie, and road manager Bill Siddons.

Here's another picture of Bill Siddons for comparison...

By coincidence, I was looking at Buffalo Springfield's wiki page this morning when I saw this:
"In January 1967 the group took an advance from the record company and flew to New York to perform at Ondine’s, a club where The Doors would also play. It was at this time that Palmer was first arrested for possession of marijuana and summarily deported back to Canada."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_springfield#Lineup_changes
Now, this picture, on the other hand, looks like a much later than January 1967 Morrison, Kreiger, and Neil (if that is actually him). In fact, Neil didn't really look like that until about 1974, 3 years after Morrison's death, so I'm gonna say No, not Neil.

@PD - interesting on The Doors/Buff connection.
This all does seem a little weird that the "Grace Slick" blog had the photo labeled as such.
that would be Neil if it was at the time of human highway, end of 70s early80s...in 1969 neil looked way different
TOO OLD TO BE NEIL!
Could be him if it was around the time of filming human highway.
Around 1969 he looked way different...
Neil never had these curly locks. But it's Jim for sure there on the couch and Billy Talbot in the background.
I put my money on Sly Stone.
If Neil's haircut is from late 70ies or early 80ies AND Jim Morrison is sitting on the couch alive ...
Hmm, maybe Neil and Jim were waiting for Elvis to join.
Defo jim Morrison and i think that the guy next to him looks a little like Phil spector ...anybody agree?
No, I don't agree.
Thanks all!
We really feel that it's what you folks bring that makes this all work.
We were pointed to this photo on another site and asked to verify. We had no idea and didn't really have the time or energy for the detective work.
But you guys crowd sourced the truth.
great to see in action. :)
It is not Neil.
This website also says it's Bill Siddons: http://www.erichufschmid.net/TFC/FromOthers/Death-of-Jim-Morrison.html
It's probably Doors manager Bill Siddons. You can see The Doors Examiner blog I wrote on it, http://www.thedoorsexaminerblog.blogspot.com

Since when did he wear glasses??? Not Neil.
bh
I would confirm that is indeed Bill Siddons and not Neil.
However, someone I trust,a huge Neil fan, mentioned they saw The Buffalo Springfield supporting The Doors at The Whisky A Go Go back in the '60s.
why not ask neil?
The guy with the book in the background is Robby Krieger.
Hey, check out Robby's new tune, speaking of Robby Krieger. You can hear it on this site. Totally cool jam out slide guitar on this:

Not Neil. Looks exactly like a guy I knew (can't remember his name) who definitely did not look like Neil.
Neil, from "Shakey": "the Doors. We used to play with them all the time at the Whiskey. For weeks on end. Play every night. Crowds would come. The Doors were fuckin' great!"
I was lucky enuff to see the Doors & the Springfield (diff weeks) at Ondine, tiny little hole in the wall under the 59th St. Bridge. Next week was the Daily Flash, great group from the NW. Funny, I don't remember that many other great groups there...
Johnno
Didn't Morrison own a house in Laurel Canyon where at least some of Neil's crew (LAJ) camped out for a time? Pretty sure he did.
Nah, the hair isn't dark enough. Isn't NY's hair black?
jim morrison, van morrison and neil used to hang out together during the whiskey a gogo days.jim is to old in this photo
Sorry, its not Neil, its The Doors Manager, Bill Siddions
Is Neil "Ten Years After"
That's not Neil Young with Jim, I've seen this photo before and I'm almost positive it is Bill Siddons the manager of The Doors.
I'm almost certain the neil young look a like is the doors manager, bill siddons, there is an article on the net, that names the figure as bill siddons.
Yes bill siddons doors manager 68 to 72.....not neil young
