Sweet!
Awesome, t! : )
Way cool, Thrasher! I'm looking forward to buying the album; great preview.
Oh and one more little thing. I know you like to say this is Neil's 17 cd released this year and I guess you're right in a way. I agree he's put out a lot of material but most if that is previously available music. For example, I bought Massey Hall and Fillmore before 2009. My choice for the archives, and I thank Neil and his people for making this available, was to legally download the songs from the archives I wanted from Amazon. I came up with 2 discs of material. So I'd say he put out about 5 cd discs or so this year which is still pretty amazing.
Thanks Thrasher!
Wow ! That's quite a compliment from Neil !!! Keep up the great work . . .OK- now back to listening . . .
Hi e2f,
Thanks for stopping by. Always good to see you, my friend.
Yes, others have taken me to task for wildly exaggerating Neil's 2009 output.
I realize that humor, irony, hyperbole, etc don't actually work to well on the internet or the RW.
I think I explained to someone else who broached this that the #17 was pretty arbitrary based on NYA, FITR, Potato Hole, re-releases, DM, etc.
So the whole point is that Neil @ 64 out produces most everyone who's half or even a quarter his age.
While we search for quality we always love Neil quantity too.
Happy holidaze!
I've got my CD yesterday und I listened to it a couple of times today.
I love it very much, Neil's voice and his music have such an intensity....
Love, Liza
Hey Thrasher!

Greedy Hand
Great preview! Thanks.
Andrea.
Hi Greedy Hand,
See that Amazon link above? See that Amazon link on the right below the album cover?
Well, if you click on it, it takes you to Amazon! And there it will tell you how much they will charge. And if you go to Sprawl Mart I bet they'll tell you much it costs too.
Certainly wouldn't want you to pay more than you think it's worth.
So $12? How exactly did you reach that price threshold? Is there another artist out there that you'd pay more than $12 to??
Just curious on your value propositions.
peace
Dylan

This is a wonderfully performed record with a strong emotional linkage. Nicely intense if you get way into it, which I'm sure most of you do.
So this is the 5th performance series record to be let out of the gate, and they are absolute treasures. 4/5 of the perf series exceed my wishes for beautiful, intense, emotional music. It is the michigan show (canterbury house) that falls a bit short for me, but on the other hand it stands up for itself as a case study comparison against the riverboat show, which is from the same tour. To me, riverboat is 1000x as intense as the canterbury show, and I appreiciate having access to both for the purpose of comparison.
Back to 92, I was listening to this for the first time, I noticed I was subconsciously evaluating the audience reaction to the songs with their shouts and whatknot during the tunes, and during Unknown Legend I noticed what I thought was the crowd laughing during the verse about Harley Davidson, which threw me off, but I didn't hear it throw Neil off at all. I was thinking about this being performed before the Harvest Moon release, I guess that's what got me into listening to the crowd...
I love this album, I'm sure it will be revered near the massey hall level when I need some introspective music time.
Thanks to Neil and his apostles for releasing this to our man thrasher, who graciously hosts the preview on his bandwidth.
You guys better have CFLs in (at least) your 5 most used light fixtures in your dwellings! Hope for the best from Copenhagen Denmark next week!
Very fine.
Pre-ordered too.
What a coup, Thrasher. You got the exclusive. What a year on TW! Thanks!
The Archives have caught up with times I remember....strange....I am streaming now and these are Great! I actually didn't mind this version of Such a Woman.
So, 1992....Just started Grad School. Found the "Broken Arrow" fanzine in Tower Records for the first time....on the Verge of finding Rust. And this great Acoustic tour....which I remember as a series of mini-tours...
This is great. I had just got home, thinking "What do I want to listen to?" and the decision was made for me. Thanks!
Yeah, this is nice and all, but come on Neil, that's three in a row now that are solo acoustic. Mix it up a bit! Still, not bad for your third official release this year.
Thrash - this is GREEDY HAND.
You have no idea of what my personal situation is so understandably you don't recognize why i threw the $12 dollar figure out there. Suffice it to say I've spent more than my fair share on Neil Young-related activities in 2009. Some quick math tells me i spent upwards of $3000 USD dollars in this calendar year on All Things Neil.
Dreamin' Man sounds good but in my opinion it's too short, and if Neil will charge us again for this, in a future Archives Volume, i will gladly take a pass.
My days of spending wildly on Neil are officially over. Some of this comes with age - i've been a diehard fan for 20-plus years and my interest, while high, no longer borders on hard-core fanaticism. I partly blame Neil for this: for years i lusted after the Archives, only to be severely disappointed with the Vol 1 release (Umm, how many BlueRay downloads have we seen? Too few, IMHO).
At present, Neil strikes me as a capitalist pig, and to combat that i choose not to purchase his music. Anyhow, there are plenty of ways to listen to it for FREE if i really want to. You could make a serious case that at this stage Neil is in it for the money a little too much. This is not the Neil i came to know and love.
So, in a nutshell, if i can't get the disc for $12 or less, I aint buying.
How do you like dem apples?
Greedy Hand
PS - thanks for the FREE stream!
Thanks TW for the great stream for "Dreamin' Man, definately worth getting, at the price advertised in USA!
Greedy Hand here in Australia we pay anywhere between $29 -$32 bucks for a new release so I think you have had it too good for too long if youre only paying around $14 or so!
I was quite happy to pay with postage around $20 bucks USA which equates to $24 Aussie, still cheaper than in the records store down here!
The cost of enjoyment far out weighs more than a few lousy bucks!
Ok,Ok Greedy we here ya!...but I'm still puzzled...how did you arrive at the figure $12? ( 2 boutique beers in Auss or one packet of smokes) that extra $1.50 would of kept Neil in the lifestyle he has become accustomed to!!
Incidentally Greedy, your not related to Johnny Rocket are you by any chance?
Astrololee -
ennjoy it. Spend whatever money you can, and spend well!
I will spend well within my budget....and not look back!
Greedy Hand
Doc,
this is Greedy here. I threw the $12 figure out there because, to me, that is a reasonable figure. Others might find it utterly offensive.
I never claimed to be Jesus Christ and a bag of chips.
Greedy Hand
Yo, Rusties-
let's make Neil rich, spend a bajillion dollars on his music...buy it once, twice, even 3 times!
cha-ching!
Greedy Hand is right : "if Neil will charge us again for this, in a future Archives Volume"...that's quite possible dudes.
Great exclusive Thrasher.
Cool stuff.

lovely Sunday morning treat ole' thrash.

Neil`s broke! Has no-one listened to FITR? His sales have tanked and he`s even had his flatsceen tv repo`ed! It left a hole in the wall and he missed the Raiders` game. Thank God he`s still got us.(LOL - I`m joking by the way, for the benefit of anyone who doesn`t get that)
Jill (keep on bloggin`....)
greedy hand, you're a fucking moron. so you tell us you've spent 3000 bucks on neil this year, but now you won't spend more than 12 bucks for this cd? what the fuck kind of logic is that? first off, why the hell did you feel the need to spend 3000 bucks on neil this year? what was that, airline tickets, hotels, concert tickets? all to see his never ending rehashed electric tour? hey man spend your money how you want, but don't bitch about it after the fact. the fact that you spent so much AT YOUR DISCRETION on NEIL YOUNG shows that you have plenty of money to throw around.
so suck it up buttercup.

Amazing! Natural beauty is a real beauty!
but.... ARCHIVES GUY.... are you there?
What happened to the Old King rap?
---and why did Neil change the tracklist at the very last moment?
Is it possible that the Old King Rap will bee released as a free digital download? Only on Thrashers Wheat!
Because Sound Matters
This Old King version is the best ever. Awesome.

Nag -
I'm glad you truly understand my personal situation, especially seeing how we've never met, and my life is not an open book.
who are you - Jesus Christ?
Peoples' circumstances change, and it can happen in the blink of an eye.
Just ask Neil and Pegi, the parents' of a special needs child.
Nag, go way. Thank you.
Wow.
Thought I'd tune in and read some comments on DM.
But folks arguing about the price of a CD? C'mon, get real.
say what you will, it's standard CD pricing. Why not go after U2 or Swift Taylor or somebody?
The man is auctioning off guitars for JC's sake, people. And he's using the funds for the people's fuel.
Some of you are ungrateful b* not worthy of Neil's music. period.
And this stream is free. So don't grovel poverty. After spending 3K?
Dude has some serious financial priorities problems I'd say.
Thanks Thrasher for making this happen.
A very old man some where

Seems like Mr Greedy Hand has, umm, struck a nerve.
that age-old debate: Art vs Capitalism.
This is Greedy Hand here....
i gave a rational explanation earlier in this thread as to why my Neil spending priorities have changed.
People obviously don't agree with me, but that's fine.
All you critics sit alone, you're no better than me for what you've shown.
Someday you might find your soul in danger!
Out!

Hi all...Wow, got this treat of free stream/notice of advance-purchase option today. I start thoroughly enjoying this musical treat, and reading comments posted as I listen. My heart is sinking as I see the bickering...PLEASE everyone, remember PEACE, LOVE, UNDERSTANDING! Don't strain at unimportant gnats and miss out on the good by taking us somewhere dark! Oh and if you are reading, Thanks Neil for all the heartfelt good you've given me through your music over the years of my life...and for your efforts at making the world a better place in the visible and non-visible ways you do. Many appreciate it! I know you are human, too, and so I don't expect perfection. ~ Lynda
Tom Petty gets it! You can pick up his 4 CD live anthology right now on Amazon for, get this, $19.99!
that's right - a 4 CD anthology for under 20 bucks!
Neil, ya listenin'?
Couldn't help but thinking while listening to War of Man how not a damn thing has changed in 17 years.
Except now it's Wars of Men.
And really. This albim is SO about peace & harmony. I think some of you guys need to listen a little harder here to what Neil's singing. Cause it looks by these comments that you're not listening. Still.
Everyone wins
It's a Peace of Woman
Wow. This is really excellent. I've always been a bit ambivalent about "Harvest Moon" - it seemed overproduced to me. But this live material - this is what I've been waiting for. This is lovely.
Charlie
This sounds pretty good on little PC speakers. Anyone know if this stream is low or high MP3 quality?
Awesome, Thrasher! I've been waiting for the stream of this, and here it is. Amazes me that people complain about paying for music, when Neil streams pretty much every album for free prior to release.
I mean sheesh, I couldn't afford the archives, but I ain't complainin'. Heck, they had a free stream of all the songs from that going for awhile, so I listened to them all, for free.
If Neil was trying to suction money out of me, I really don't think he'd be giving us the opportunity to listen for free. Seems to me he's an honest businessman - you can test drive the product without having to buy it!
this stream sure is a thing of beauty...thanks thrasher! i can't wait to get this cd...i can tell i will listen to it lots. btw, even though i'm not online so much these days, i'm still loving neil...cheers to all my rust friends out there...jules/freeroamingsoul
I gotta say; comparing Petty to Neil? Tom Petty is great and all- love the guy, but he doesn't hold a candle to Neil- I'd still pay three times the amount for Neil over Petty. $20. for a live four CD Petty box sounds about right.
Neil's eight disc Archive(CD)box for $99. sounds very reasonable to me.
I'm sorry but no artist I know of puts out product of the quality that Neil does- Christ, the blood, sweat, tears, love, time and passion that Neil puts into his releases really does make the stuff more valuable to me- and the proof is in the pudding. How great does the Archives sound? That was the best $200. bucks I think I've ever spent on music.
Now, the question of Neil and Money and prices. Why is it that Fans of a musician feel they can put a price tag on some one else's art. What a sense of entitlement you people have- Because YOU are a fan means it should be what you say its worth? Listen no one says you have to buy this....shit, I'm pretty sure you'd be able to download this for free in a few weeks- personally I like to have the product, sounding as Neil intended it to sound. Despite how much you've spent in the past don't go on and on bitching about money and prices. I can afford this CD, maybe you cant and that's your business but please don't ruin my buzz with your money, greedy trip. I don't buy every single product sold by Neil and his company- I dont need to. I dont need a Greendale duffle bag. If you feel Neil is greedy don't buy what he's sellin'.
Neil is rich and deserves to be- the man works hard and has for years. Have you ever tried to write a song? Have you ever done a world tour? I trust that Neil isn't ripping off his fans..really. Should CDs and concert tickets and lincvolt t-shirts be free? Hell that'd be great but realistic? No.
Besides my bills, mortgage, and my soon to arrive baby-girl, what else do I have to spend my money on? I'm off the really expensive drugs now- so what else? I'd rather drop my cash on brain food- art like music, literature and the like. Life is short people- do what you can, do what you must, do it well.
Quit the bitching and the hating.Please.
Sit back, relax, lite a joint, inhale deep, exhale and enjoy the music. Enjoy the season, enjoy the Holidays
Thank You Thrasher
Thank you Neil.
ROCk On!
ShittyHorse rhymes with IDIOT!
"If you feel Neil is greedy don't buy what he's sellin'."
Ok, i won't.
Do you have anything of intelligence to add to this debate, or just nonsensical babble?
Yeah, well lets just talk about the songs on Dreamin' man...Probably my fav would have to be "You and Me"..has that "Old Man" feel about it... love the lyrics, and Neil's reachin' notes so crisp like his Massey hall Days..Yep I'll definitely BUY this album...even if its more than 12 bucks!
Oh I forgot,
Shitty Iddy..I love a blogger with nonsensical babble!! lol

My fave track here has to be Such a Woman, it almost moves me to tears to hear Neil`s beautiful, poignant, soulful singing on this song. In fact on the whole album.
Like a lot of people I`m a bit short of cash too with Xmas coming up etc but I have this on the top of my Xmas wish list, and in the meantime I can listen to it for free here!
Thank-you Thrasher and thank-you Neil - this is such a treat!

Couldn't agree more..just loved listening to "You and Me" also "Natural Beauty" its Neil at his acoustic best, just like the unplugged songs like "No More" and "Look Out For My Love"
So beautiful and poignant, makes you wanna cry!
Hi Jill, I agree with you. My favorite song is also "Such a woman"....it's just so beautiful...

Touch of gray....children call, that sums it up for me, that line about makes me cry thinking about my kids.
Great tunes. Not THAT much different from some boot copies I have, or from some of the touring TV promo's (SNL, PBS, Centerstage...) that I taped. Worthy of release though.
Thanks Liza, hope you`re keeping well and enjoying wearing your Lincvolt jacket. Bet you`re glad of it this weather!

Well, I gave myself a little preview--the first four tracks--and it sounds great. Definitely looking forward to the rest. As with someone else on here, I was surprised to find myself almost tearing up during Such a Woman. Powerful stuff, indeed. The Harvest Moon numbers seem to benefit from this minimal treatment in the same way that the songs from Harvest gained a new dimension with the excellent Live at Massey Hall release a couple of years back. I thought it kind of funny that another poster noted that the last four PS issues--Massey Hall; Canterbury House; Riverboat; and this one--have all been acoustic. Personally, I could be happy without Neil plugging in a guitar for a while. Neil is the kind of artist who doesn't need any of the so-called "frills" to touch and move an audience. Some of his best music has been accompanied only by a lone guitar or piano with perhaps the occasional harmonica intermission. That's not to say he doesn't extract wonderfully bizarre sounds from Old Black, but that's usually a supplement used to enhance already strong material when he wants it. Take for instance Cowgirl in the Sand as performed on Massey Hall. Even without the theatrics normally associated with it, this song was, to me, just as fascinating purely on the basis of its lyrics. Now, I love the original recording of Cowgirl and the version on Road Rock because Neil going nuts via an amplifier adds tremendously to the song--so much in fact that I wasn't sure the song would work "unplugged" at first. But amazingly, it doesn't need the string bending to be a complete strong composition. It would be interesting to see how other electric perennials such as Cortez the Killer, Tonight's the Night, Words, Ordinary People, or even more recent songs like Change Your Mind and No Hidden Path would fare with similar treatment. All of these songs are greatly added-to by Neil's ascents to Jamming Heaven but I do wonder how they'd stand based purely on lyrics and melody? (Like a Hurricane on pipe organ, as found on the Unplugged record, was a decidedly eccentric thing but it worked in a bizarre sort of way, just like Trans works).
In the meantime, I'll occupy myself by enjoying Cowgirl in the Sand on Massey and the rest of Neil's great acoustic work. I find it amazing, all said and done, that he needs only enough accompaniment to express a melody to create a brilliant piece of music capable of transfixing an audience. Although the man himself would likely scoff at the notion, is this perhaps what one could call the Magic of Neil Young?
This is a superb album. Bud Scoppa gave it 5 stars in Uncut. His review says it all.
Landing on Water
D.I. Dya think you could elaborate on what you really think?
You're definitely a man of minimal words.....but I do love reading your novels!

Did anyone notice the change in the opening lyrics in Dreamin Man?
Harvest Moon:
I'm a dreamin' man, yes, that's my problem
I can't tell when I'm not being real.
Dreamin Man:
I'm a dreamin' man, yes, that's my problem
I can't tell when my dreams won't come true
I think I like the Dreamin Man version better, feels more personal to me.
~ SteelMadsen
D.I. Kertis:
I have a wonderful live recording of the 3/20/1999 Oakland, CA show, nearly as perfectly recorded as the Dreamin Man show, only from the audience.
Anyway, there's an accoustic versioin of cortez on there that is AMAZING, just like Cowgirl on Massey.
So email me at kimballbehning at gmail dot com and we can setup for you to get access to this great recording...
