So Where Are Those NYA BD Live Updates?
Ever since The Archives were released in June, there has been a persistent clamor for more Bluray downloads (BD Live).
Thus far, we've seen two. For some, this is simply unacceptable.
We've had repeated inquiries about new downloads where some feel not only impatient but wronged as well. From our dear friend Anon:
As someone who bought the Archives, i believe i have every right to complain about the lack of BluRay Live downloads.
Neil extolled the virtues of BLR in interviews leading up the Archives, and our very own Archives Guy kept pumping up the feature....
Let's hope the floodgates open soon...because thus far i've only seen a drip and a drab.
Why do people give Neil a free pass about this? It's OK to criticize 'your God' once in awhile.
Seriously, it is...
And a well measured reply from Mick:
Everybody has a right to an opinion regarding the frequency of bluray bd live update, it doesn't mean I have to agree with it . While BD live was advertised as a big feature ,there was never a promise that you'd be getting an album or month or whatever. The reality is that it is unlikely to be any floodgates of material. It will be a slow drip over time. I noticed the last song was a 170 mb download, and the size of the downloads was one of the reasons AG from memory ruled out the possibility of whole albums of songs being done in one hit.
If it was the main reason some people bought the archives, than perhaps those people should have waited to see what the actual reality was before buying. You knew you were getting 128 tracks , plus 12 hidden or whatever,as this was advertised clearly. However, there was no commitment to provide 5 songs a month to download or whatever. I'd love there to be a download every week though !!.
In the end if your not happy with it, and you don't think the rest of the package is worth it than go sell it on ebay. However, I don't agree with that opinion as well. There is nothing I have seen in audio/video box sets etc that comes close to Archives vol 1 set, even without the bd live feature.
So settle down folks.
From Archives Guy:
Fret not, we have LOTS of BD-Live downloads prepared and coming soon.
The delay has been because our small team has had to get some other projects out of the way, so that you have fresh Neil Young releases to enjoy.
BD-Live...very very soon.
We have not only NOT abandoned the format, but are making inroads to exploiting it for our needs even further than it has already been stretched.
enjoy your weekend.
Thanks AG!
In these days of instant gratification, there are still some who believe that good things come to those who wait.
Afterall, if you've waited 20 years, what's a few more days, weeks or months?

Archives Guy - thank you very much for your reply. I am VERY GLAD to hear new downloads are on the way. This is a valuable piece of technology, and glad to see Neil will continue to exploit it.
Thrash - check your ego at the door, and save your sarcasm. Get over yourself.

Good to hear! But I'm still only on Disc 01 as far as really exploring THE ARCHIVES. So the wait hasn't been too bad. I'll be glad to get some new downloads, though. I would like to know when the FORK IN THE ROAD Blu-Ray will be out so I can finally buy that album...

Thrasser -
Are you satisfied or disappointed with the number (2) of BluRay Live downloads thus far?
The truth shall set you free!
hey, Thrashe -
Why do you treat any critique of the Archives with disdain?
is it not a fair question to ask about BluRay Live?
It certainly is fair, and thankfully AG answered the question.
Why are you so sensitive about Neil? He has flaws, just like the rest of us.
Don't that trouble you brother? Don't that trouble you pal?
Joe in TO - don't bother waiting for Fork on BluRay....Neil has already stuck a proverbial fork in that album, and he wont release it on BluRay. It won't sell, and is not worth the excessive investment!
Only on Disc 1 of the Archives? I hope you bought it within the last week.
At your pace, we're likely to see a woman elected president before you finish getting through it.

If you're enough of a fan to buy the BD set and all the equiptment you are either rich or a hard core fan. Those who are rich and the whole set up cost is negligible are most likely to complain. Those who have followed Neil over the decades shouldn't be surprised ... Neil does things on his terms on his time full stop. In almost most every situation, he'll delivery MORE than fair value and will delight those open minded enough to appreciate what he's giving over, except for those who have too many set expectations ... because it seems like he'll almost always come at it from a different angle and disappoint the expectations of one and all ... so yes, the ride with Neil is rarely smooth, often up and down, but when its over its almost always thrilling in a great way. I found myself initially disappointed with the set list of 'Truck Show' then I reminded myself Neil seems to get it right most times, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and see what transpires before bitchin and moanin too much ... My sense is its the same deal here ... he's probably up to something good and at some point we'll look back and realize that in a year where he put out something like 15 new discs a few less BD Live downloads than expected aint the end of the world ... Neil wrote that BD is the way to go, I trust that he'll deliver on that promise in his classic fine form, and the fact that it will be on his terms is fine with me.

Guys listen to AG they will do more. Do not rush the Archives are not a cold Milwaukee Best to slug down on the way home . The Archives are like a fine wine to sip slowly to savor each disc. Take your time sipping each and savoring the sound that is the ARchives .

I have a general Archives Question. I have not yet purchased it. I am living in Europe and returning to the us in 6 months or so. Do not want to invest in the hardware "here" ....and then have to reinvest back "there".
I travel quite a bit for work and I mostly listen to the music/vids while on the road or on my Ipod while running.
I am intrigued with BluRay and will probably upgrade all of my "Stuff" back home (TV's, Disk Player, Sound System)as they are now very old technology.
Should I just buy the DVD Version and watch on my computer or should I wait and buy BD version in 6 months.....?
BTW....can you download the BD Media and content for travel on to computers / ipods, or is this a sit in the home media center kind of thing?
Thanks for any advice.

Folks, Archives box is just arrived... fresh-baked... I think the right thing is to have some time to explore all the discs, and THEN will be the uploads time... lots of uploads with all the tracks mentioned in Selected Tracks book section. I hope for.
So don't worry & be happy. Anyway thanks again AG!
But I have another question for you: why Harvest Moon Live will be the #12 only? Why only 8 releases (#04-#11) to cover the space of 20 years ('72-'92)?
Yo bloggers! Imagine being the folks with the CD or DVD who do not get to share in this excitement. Against Neil's warning, they ignored BD and will miss all of these upcoming goodies. Rusties are not stranges to waiting. Maybe the DLs will be essential, maybe they will be crap. Isn't that what folliwing Neil is all about? But, in this case they will, for sure, be added value.
I've always maintained that the BD grants you "lifetime access to the barn". We paid a whole lot for this. Just let it happen how it's gonna happen and take AG at his word. We got the Archives after all, didn't we????And after 21 years, we all had a right to doubt.
Delays? Remember that "I Wonder" was delivered and then pulled back and then re-delivered in a Post-Informer, which is a much better experience overall. Imagine that several planned deliveries had to be similarly re-done....It seems like they are re-imagining the BD-Live possiblities all the time.
Believe me....the wait is just as hard for me. I sprung for a player with wifi just this past week....

"Are you satisfied or disappointed with the number (2) of BluRay Live downloads thus far?"
What's the difference in the long run? The set's been out just three months. In the meantime, NY's been on tour, not some lacklustre going-through-the-motions type of thing that is all most rock musicians his age are able to manage, but full on balls to the wall rock and roll. More releases are announced for later this year. Movie to come. For Christ's sake, who else does this kind of thing, and at this pace?
Why not give the BD live a chance, see how it develops over 1 or 2 years?
Some people will complain about anything.
Hey Anon, If it is such a burden to you to own a copy of the Archives, then perhaps a weight would be lifted from your shoulders should you cast it to the wind, set it free, give it away! I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands.
Hello.
RSS: if you buy the BD set, you'll have to find the music via "other means" if you want to put it on your iPod or whatever, or go through a very long and tedious process to convert the set.
As for disappointment and such, who cares? It's not like we were guaranteed 50 downloads a month or whatever. As others have said, some will whine up a storm over the stupidest things. This is a pretty silly thing to whine about, in my not-so-humble opinion. Be patient! You'll get your precious, God-given, necessary-for-life downloads in due time.
I have the dvd and think its great..can someone tell me what the 2 bd live downloads were?
L
I think too much it is being made of the BD live downloads, or at least too much crying! It could be a song, or only a photo, or an album cover. If it's a song then it can only be listened to on that player and nowhere else.
Instead of looking for reasons to complain I think people should be thankful that Neil is giving anything extra at all. He does not have to.
Take it or leave it cry babies!

There is a card (both in the DVD and the BluRay set) with which you can download what's in the CD version in mp3 format; thus without the hidden, bonus, video, and extra BDLive content.
Aaah, I had forgotten about the download card. I just made my own FLACs instead of waiting for the initial download mess to be sorted out. :)
So, yes, there is a much simpler way to get a great majority of the tunes from the set. If you want to convert the BD-Live downloads, you'll have to go through a tedious process but it's doable.
GREAT news from AG that more BD live downloads are in the pipeline - I knew the investment in the format was worthwhile - however, while everybody is clamouring and encouraging all the NYA resource team work on these downloads - would we rather they be working on volume 2?? Because thats where the big surprises and (for me) the most classic NY recordings will be. Has anyone at all ANY idea when volume 2 is planned for release - yes it's great to have an Archive release of harvest moon acoustic stuff but id rather the resource and effort went into volume 2 - this is what we really want isn't it?
How does one purchase the download of the live 1967 Mr. Soul? Please help!!! Thanks.
