Thankfully, we receive lots of encouragement for what we try and do here.
But we sure do seem to outrage a lot of folks too. Here's some of the latest hate mail we received on Neil Young News: Archives Comment of the Moment: Soldier, My Ears from AK:
i love how thrasher hides behind his comments policy. as if that means anything. fuck your policy.
and fuck you thrasher. you are a fraud.
and you know I always sign my name.
regarding the archives, my friend got a copy off a blog. i'm not paying for it. not at it's current price or even the $174 i could have bought the blu-ray for off deep discount.

Ya know, Thrasher, if you don't get hate mail every so often, you're being too vanilla anyway. I say the hate mail is a good thing. You're actually invoking emotion for people to take their time to write you, even if it's to be a complete bastard. :)

I'd apologize but I just don't see for the life of me how my praising the remastered DVD-quality sound of Archives provoked that comment from AK, especially as, to my memory, he hadn't been present in the discussion of my comments until then. To judge from the direction that discussion went, my innocent expression of elation at a restoration job well done apparently led to another cyber fight about trolls and Thrasher supposedly censoring the comments forum. For some strange reason, it's a bit depressing for me to think that this is what happens when I express pleasure and gratitude for something Neil's given us. It seems to me that some people simply don't like anyone else to have a good time when they aren't enjoying themselves.
I'm sorry if my enjoying the remastered Soldier on Archives 1 somehow offended anyone but I can't think how it would!

Thrasher, a fraud? How so? If you don't like the site's policies, don't come to it, but a fraud? Who exactly he is he defrauding and how? Unless of course this whole site is just a front for something else... (Only joking, Thrasher!) I agree with Anon 8/28@6: 55-- it takes a real ignoramus to come out with something like that.

Reminds me of those drunk guys in the front row who almost messed up Neil's first show in Amsterdam, RAI, 2007. Kept up slurred yapping and dumb laughing during "From Hank to Hendrix". I don't know if there's a tape, but AK should get ahold of it - his kind of crowd, maybe make some new friends!
After they started up again, Neil stopped, leaned right into them and shouted: "Shut up, assholes!" Great. Also a nice verbal touch, coming out of a sensitive song. Made me laugh. Assholes did the only right thing and left the building. Or were escorted out.
So here's to ya, AK, if ya can't stand the music, get out of the building!
The Archives are what they are. An amazing glimpse into the creative foundations of one of the most important artists of the last half century. Is it worth the money? I think it's open to debate but I anted up and I'm glad I did.
This website is a Godsend. It's great one stop shopping for all things Neil. Thank you Thrasher!

C'mon! "comment moderation" must be so time consuming for you. Do you actually, personally approve "EVERY" comment thats dropped in the silo?

To all the haters out there, there's only one thing to say, actually, someone already said it: "Walk on." Is Archives perfect, is Neil perfect, is Thrasher perfect, are the haters perfect, am I perfect, is anything perfect? Like very nearly everything, it's all a double edge sword, and you take the good with the bad. This doesn't mean you have to accept anything you don't see eye to eye with, but why stoop to the lowest common denominator- profanity and name calling. By all means, state your disagreement, but do it in a way that is calm, respectful, relevant and reasoned.
If Thrashers Wheat can't be viewed as an ultimate example of well intentioned content and discussion, from an admittedly pro Neil standpoint, and you can't start out with something resembling this yourself, all the while reserving the right to disagree in a way I described above, then this isn't the place for you, and as so many others have said better than me, just "Walk on." No biggie.
Don't sweat it Thrasher, most of us get it, and only want you to keep it coming. I'm sure even you would allow the haters back in, if they could just calm down a little, and aim for discourse, rather than trash and burn.

It still amazes me that people get annoyed by voluntarily reading a blog. If you don't like what's posted, sure make a comment, but at least put some thought into it. Otherwise you sound like a teenager who still gets a thrill from dropping the f-word all over the place.

ok, coward #1, actually i didn't rip anything off a file sharing site. a friend of mine knew i didn't buy the archives and sent it to me. i'm too lazy to steal off the internet.
coward #2-maybe you're right. but i don't believe a person (thrasher) who is essentially drawing attention from a famous person's career to his own site should moderate anything related to that person. if this were "thrasher's stories about his encounters with hookers and crack" i'd be more than happy to let him moderate my thoughts on his escapades. but this is neil's house whether thrasher pays for it or not. thrasher is just some guy who riding neil's jock for attention.

greg-you may not be aware that thrasher used one of his posts a while ago to use the same words i did at him at the people he didn't agree with. it was a pearl jam song "not for you" that thrasher quoted. and in bold print he put "FUCK YOU". so i decided to speak thrasher's language.
