Concert Review of the Moment: Dublin, Ireland: 6/21/09

The Neil Young Concert Review of the Moment is from Dublin, Ireland concert on 6/21/09 by Luc:
What touches me, is the fact that a whole lot of people (and that is not only those on Threasher's Wheat) feel and experience the same. We all go to a kind of gathering where we feel the same : it's Neil Young and his music we come for.

It does remind me a bit of the sort of feeling occured in the seventies when Genesis (with Peter Gabriel) performed. It always has been described as a kind of religion.

Well, last year, and especially now, with the request for harvest moon, i see, i read and i feel the same. Whether you attend a gig coming from France, Italy, Germany Belgium, the netherlands, Poland, Austria,...you meet fans, start talking to them, and have something in common.

And that is not only the love to his music, but also the understandig, the common feeling of some people needing Neil's music to get along, the simple fact of knowing that Neil Young -altough he seems like not being interested in the audience- knows his fans, respect them, wants to satisfy them, wants to surprise them, and...by doing that, get back just that love, that respect, that keeps him giving a little bit more, which in response give him our love...

And as a conclusion, i have a feeling that it's just that what makes him come back to Europe over and over again : we just love him, regardless of what he brings us (e.g. greendale solo accoustic Europe vs American electric shows.

For us, Europeans, his music is what it's all about.

So : THANK YOU FOR ALL THE JOY, Neil Pegi, Ben, Rick, Chad, Anthony, Larry, all the staff and David Johnson for his painting (I'll never forget the painting of The Sultan last year in Antwerp, ad I love the " Winterlong" painting.

Thanks Luc! very nice sentiments we think many would agree with.

More on what seems to appear to be one of the most memorable Neil Young concerts in recent memory in Dublin, Ireland on 6/21/09 with an amazing song request fulfilled.

Hate to comment here- but cant help but feel like this comment is like calling out us American fans. As if to say "Americans dont love Neil as much as us Europeans" OR 'Us Europeans get it..we know what it's all about...the music...unlike you Americans." or like we got Neil solo "accoustic" Greendale because you Americans can't get it....or something. The snobishness shines through with this comment. It's well known that many artists will do a 'trial' run in Europe before bringing the show to America. Plus the cost of doing the whole Greendale show in Europe would have been astronomical. I saw Greendale in the US four times...with Crazy horse! Which was how Neil toured it for two years...so the electric show was his real vision for Greendale. What about Neil's 1999 solo tour? Didn't see him in Europe (GREAT SHOW BY THE WAY) that year. Maybe he thought that us Americans could love the music too? Let me conclude by saying us Americans...we love Neil more than you Europeans...way more!

You know, we've seen our fair share of comments that are beyond the pale but how in the world did you ever perceive Luc's to come across as Euro supremacy or anti-American?

So, na-na? Like N. America, N. America?

Which 4 Greendale shows did you see na?

Please let's not get into this 'conversation'. I'm sure it wasn't meant that way. And I'm equally sure Neil doesn't think that way either.

There's just one thing that motivates Neil, and I find it really beautiful to see that it 'infects' his fans: love. Neil really does everything he does from the heart.
That's what attracts us in Europe, that's what attracts people in America, Australia or where-ever you come from.

A lot of his songs (from Springfield era on) deal with obstructions to follow his heart: Mr. Soul to name just one. So you can find this theme in his lyrics.

His guitarplaying is unique and different from almost all guitarists that are world famous: its mostly composed on the spot. It's real, it's raw, it's not meant to show off, or to impress. It's meant to touch you.

That's exactly the reason I think why people - also very young - immediately love him when they attend a concert: it's just so full of dedication to the music, the sound, the performance, the feel. You simply cannot ignore that.

It's in my opinion also the reason why Neil is in a category of his own: no other artist is so devoted to his music, and shows so much love and care for it. There really has not been one album or tour he did not giving all he had.

That's a way of living your life I feel inspired by. And I think most fans do.
