Last concert in Australia , last concert of tour? First NY concert in Perth for 20 years so Neil was very well recieved with extended versions RITFW ,Cortez and Cowgirl in the Sand.
NY was in fine form and appreciative of his audience thanking Australia for a good tour.
Perth is young again
Interesting he went back to Cowgirl after doing LAH in Adelaide.
It was an awesome set and a great ending to his Australian tour. Neil seemed to be enjoying himself and the crowd was really into it, even the 18 year olds behind me knew all the words to the three Harvest songs he did (their parents must have owned the album). My My Hey Hey was the highlight for me, but seeing Cortez live for the first time (this was my third Neil concert all up) was a close second. Ended with him mauling the strings of his guitar (but not Old Black itself, of course!) to close Day In The Life like The Beatles never did. Great, great gig.
With temperatures nudging the 40 degree mark I spent most of the day joining in the antics of the Lillyworld Area and only caught the sets of COG (Local rock band), My Morning Jacket, who were absolutely brilliant and the tail end of favourite local Rockers, The Living End.
Neil was due to play an hour after The Living End so I spent the last few songs making my way towards the front of the stage which I succeeded in doing so, and stayed there. Young kids right through to people Neil's age crowded the front of the stage.
Love only Love kicked off the set.
The crowd arked up for Hey Hey My My with Neil blazing away on old black.
The Folk rock Everybody knows this is nowhere was a nice change up and
the recent song, Spirit Road was dedicated to all the alcoholics. This song was well recieved and I liked it.
Cortez the Killer provided a mellower moment with its long searing guitar solos and all the crowd singing along. The joint was then stomping to Cinnamon Girl, always good to hear.
Whipping out the harmonica and pump organ Neil played Mother Earth which got loud cheers, the old man talking directly to younger generations about conservation of the planet.
The acoustic set got the ususal cheers from the crowd with all singing along to Needle and the Damage Done, Heart Of Gold and as Neil said, one similar to that one,
Old Man.
Cowgirl In The Sand rocked out but I was really impressed with Just Singing A Song.
Rockin In The Free World was out of this world, with Neil feeding off the frenzied crowd and really extending on this one, with the dramatic tempo changes, and just after we all thought it was over, bang, another chorus and more guitar chaos.
The set ended with A Day In The Life, some of the crowd seemed suprised and then shocked when the strings were ripped off and the whole Day In The Life ending which was epic.
It was a great thing to have been part off, great show!
i was one of the 18 yr olds singing haha
first time i have seen NY live, awesomely brilliant in Perth. My all time fav is old Man which will be played at my funeral and hope that the banjo is still as fresh. the strings at the end was amazing and he seemed to be really really into it and grabbing the drum stick at the end with a cheeky grin summed it up.
Into the blue now with memories forever
Maybe those younger kids singing along own some of his albums. I had already listened to Time Fades Away before I was 14 years old.
Just blown away AGAIN by Neil, what a performance, what an amazing crowd. Third time we have seen Neil in Perth, this time with our daughters and their frieds, who now believe in the legend. Cortez the Killer was the highlight for me. Loved the rendition of a Day in The Life. NY was awesome, and the band was was right there with him.
my my what a surprise but then what did you expect - a soft effort or a real performance.
neil IS god.
love and rock kimlong
