I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THIS COMES OUT! FILLMORE EAST COMES OUT 4 DAYS BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY AND UNDER REVIEW COMES OUT JUST 3 DAYS AFTER MY BIRTHDAY! WHAT A TREAT!
Under Review has been out for some weeks now in the U.K. I bought my copy last week and was less than impressed.
It's preaching to the converted if you are already a Neil Young fan; if not an hour plus of talking heads (acting as if their word was GOSPEL) isn't a day at the beach.
Another really annoying thing about DVD is that the packaging claims that it includes interviews with Young. Yeah Right!
Most of the rare footage seems to be from Rust Never Sleeps as well! This kind of cheap cash in is so not what Neil Young is about.
Save your money; don't encourage this kind of trash!
I'm in the UK and I was bought this as a gift from my wife. Unfortunately it is RUBBISH. If you like chin stroking pseuds talking rubbish then please buy it, if you want to know what Neil is about, just listen to his music!
I've also had a chance to see this bio/documentary. With anything, you get the good and the bad."Neil Young, Under review" is no exception. Unlike previous biographies by VH-1 and A&E, this one examines each of the albums Neil was associated with, up to and including "Zuma". Making commentary on each are a varied group of authors and others associated with the music industry. What I found interesting was that like any true Neil Young fan, they did not always agree which album they thought was better than the next. I especially liked the insight provided by John Einarson, who has written biography on Neil Young's early years, caleed "Don't Be Denied".
The negative side of "Under Review" is that the film makers used video footage that is readily available, in other words, nothing new. The production value also comes across as "amateurish".I had the feeling from the beginning that this was put together with "not much thought". For the Neil fan who "just has to have anything Neil", then I guess the cost is worth it....
I cant wait for this cd to come out. I feel like Cartman on that episode of south park wher he freezes himself so that he doesnt have to wait the 3 weeks until the nintendo wii comes out. Anyway has anyone noticed on the living with war page how there is a video clip of Neil & Crazy Horse doing Long Walk Home from 1986. This isnt what alarms me, but the label on top of it that says that its from NEIL YOUNG ARCHIVES VOLUME 3 that pisses me off. We have waited too long to be given this in just the 3rd instalment of the series. Everyone knows that there is an incredible amount of awsome stuff FROM HIS PRIME. I really really hope we get some super secret unreleased Buffalo Springfield as number 2 from the archives!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have bought both copies of the "under review" dvds and I think they are must haves for NY fans.
They are worth the small cost to buy for the bio and discography timelines alone.
It is typical for NYs material to be viewed and considered with varying opinions and this is what is portrayed by the journos etc on the dvd.
Highly recommended.
