A Big Happy Birthday to Neil!!!

Neil Young is 60 years young on Saturday, November 12. So Happy Birthday Neil!!!
And what a year for Neil. There were some definite highs and frightening lows. Most importantly, Neil is still here and making music.
During 2005, Neil had quite a few memorable moments:
- Neil suffered a brain aneurysm and underwent successful surgery,
- Neil lost his father Scott Young, renowned Canadian journalist,
- inducted The Pretenders into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,
- concluded the telecast for the Live 8 Benefit to "Make Poverty History"
- recorded and performed "Prairie Wind" in Nashville for the upcoming Jonathan Demme film,
- performed on "Shelter From the Storm: A Concert for the Gulf Coast" and MTV's React Now telethons to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims,
- musical guest for entire week on the Conan O'Brien TV Show, and
- hosted and performed to benefit Farm Aid and the Bridge School .
So another busy year.
So if you want to celebrate with other Neil fans, here's a few happenings:
- London Celebration Fest,
- Neil Young Day in Rome, Italy,
- Japan Neil Fest Special - Osaka
- The Rust Never Sleeps Tribute Band in Brookline, New Hampshire, and
- radio stations around the world plan broadcast tributes (see comments), including Rust Radio, which will be playing a mix of Bridge School Benefit 18 (all artists), 19 (Neil's set) and Farm Aid 2005.
So, is it really better to burn out than to fade away?
Just ask fans of Kurt Cobain...

Canada's best artist and no celebration in this county? It's kind of sickening. Well guess I'll just jam to Mr. Young today in his honour.

I must say I was so honored to see you in (my hometown of) Nashville at the Ryman; it was one of the best surprises I've had in a long time. What a wonderful show you and the whole crew put on. A perfect venue for the sound. Thank you so much for the old music we love and the new that's starting to stick with me in continuous loops.
My honey has always accepted that you are the only man I'd ever leave him for (now the only 60yr-old man I'd ever leave him for!). I turned 40 this yr - we can hit the big milestone birthdays together.
Stay healthy & keep the creativity flowing! Walk on.....

Back in winter of 1972, I was with some friends driving around on a Colorado winter day, in my friends 1968 VW bug. He had an 8-track tape player, and it had Sugar Mountain on it. I kept asking to have that song player over and over again. First time I had listen to Neil's music. A year later when I decided to learn to play the guitar, the first song I learned how to play was "Cowgirl in the Sand". Now many years later, I'm still playing my old Martin guitar and 1/2 of the songs I play our Neil's songs. I have followed your career most of the time, a few times I didn't follow you on the side roads, but over the past 10 years have gotten and listen to most of your music. Your latest album is on of your best. Your song you wrote for your daughter has caught my ear, and I hope to have my daughter (whose 13) learn the words and sing while I play (she sings a lot better than I do!). We have sung Silver and Gold and Tell Me Why together a few years ago and its time for her and I to do a new song together.
So happy Birthday, Neil. You've had an influence in my music and the music I have past onto my children, and now the appreciation they have with artists they listen. But when friends are over and I'm playing one of your songs, they are quick to tell their friends, "My Dad is listening to Neil Young!"
Steve
Happy Birthday, Neil! You'll never burn out OR fade away.
I also understand that he published a book under a pseudonym "N. Jay Young"!! A friend of mine had it and the photo on the back sure looked like Neil. It is called "A Ship's Tale" published by Boson Books.

I first heard your record in the seventies when I was a little girl and I would sneak into my older brother's bedroom and listen to 'Rust Never Sleeps' over and over and over again. My favorite song to this day is still 'Thrasher.' I have seen you in concert dozens and dozens of times and I still haven't heard you play it. One of these days!
Happy Birthday - your music enhances my life daily, thanks for all the years of GREAT music.
I'v been listening to you since preschool when i played my dads old records im 19 now, but your still my favorit musical artist. Keep up the good work ;)
Neil, Sorry I'm late. Just found this site. Every year on your birthday I typically listen to your music all day. My mom passed away on the 10th from Alzheimers and I just wasn't listening to any music or tv for several days. It didn't matter....on the 12th, I heard you singing in my ear as if I had the music playing. You wanted me to hear you whether I wanted to or not. Thnaks for the comfort your music has been to me over the years. I hope you had a great birthday. I know it's been a trying year for you too!
Betsy in Pittsburgh, PA
Happy New Year Neil! Yer gonna be younger next year but that's ok! You are always growing younger, I can't figure it out. Eddie Vedder said that! You wear me out just watching your life go by. I said that! Some lives are train wrecks, others are'nt. Yours ain't. I said that too! Archives be damned. We can read it on the radio. You said that! When God made you he had a hell of a plan! Next October, I'm goin'to Half Moon Bay, pick a pumpkin outta the patch, make a pie out of it and eat it on your 61st birthday! Like I say, God had a hell of a plan!
Many Happy Birthday Wishes to U Neil
Belated Birthday wishes to Neil, hope to Wishing you a one of a kind day filled with good times and great memories
